Well, the first 3 chapters are very confusing, there are long takes even of 20 min of people doing almost doing nothing with no dialogue, there will be parts where you will want to stop watching it. Then it you get introduced to new characters it becomes more funny, the humor is something similar to Celine and Julie Go Boating, I liked philosophy themes rivette wanted to explode about the prometheus play.

certainly the 4-8 chapters are the best, once you finish you'll probably have to google some names because there are like 30 characters introduced in the film, althought isn't that confusing as some ´people make it to be
