10/10 thread.

Post a movie you consider to be a 10, and why. Remember, this is all subjective. If you disagree with someone, tell them why, and try to avoid buzzwords.

Under The Skin for me, the amazing cinematography and incredible visual storytelling combined with the visceral score really just itches the exact right spot for me.

Why? Because it's very well shot, it has an original and terrific story, the casting is great, the score is the greatest of all time, the acting is great, the pace is great, the production value is great, and the climax is the greatest of all time.

There is literally nothing wrong with this film.

Literally. Nothing. Wrong.

It most certainly does not. There isn't a single scene in the movie that doesn't feel like it shouldn't be there.

Also I thought it did a pretty good job of showing that Moses was a piece of shit and that the Plagues unleashed upon the (normal) Egyptians were retardedly unfair.

It basically made me think and consider things at an age where everything else was trying to spoonfeed me.

I still love this to death even today.

I can't decide whether I like FaFDM or TGTBTU more. FaFDM is a better Man with No Name Movie and has a better villain, but TGTBTU is just so epic and has a much tighter story. Based Leone.

I give it to TGTBTU because the scale of the movie is much larger, though that doesn't necessarily make FaFDM any worse because of its setting. But TGTBTU is one big epic and the ending is something that no movie has come close to.

One of my favorite films. Just a lot of fun to watch. Has the same vibe as hunt for red October and other 90s thrillers of that ilk. (Baldwin not withstanding)

I don't even know how to describe the type of film I'm talking about but the jack Ryan movies encompass it perfectly although there are plenty like it. The fugitive comes to mind

I will go with the majority on Under the Skin and say that it's a good atmospheric piece but with very little thematic motives underneath is sometimes pleasing wrapping.

We know plot is for plebs but a movie is a movie and you have to say something. If you're not a master storyteller with only images like Lynch or Refn please dont try so hard

Possibly The Fellowship of the Ring, though.

>Perfect casting.

>Excellent score

>Great adaptation of the source material
>Grabbed the boss Boromir chapter from the beginning of TTT and stuck it at the end of FotR for even more awesomeness
>The Balrog scene
>Wonderfully edited action sequences
>Makeup/hair/costume/etc all perfect

I cannot think of a single flaw, which I guess might define it as a 10/10. It's actually not even one of my favourite movies, I just think it's the closest thing to a perfect film I've ever seen.

I get why people don't like this movie. But it really shows how charming an actor can be even when he's alone for most of the movie. I used to think Two Towers was easily the best but after having marathoned them all the way through several times in one sitting I always find myself thinking that Fellowship is actually the "best" film out of all of them. It's just perfect in every single way.

>>
>>64915065
not OP but
It's about an alien on earth that, wearing the skin of a beautiful woman, lures men, using the promise of sex, to harvest their bodies.
She encounters and interacts with different people along the way. After successfully luring in a grotesquely disfigured man, she feels sorry for him and lets him go. She then tries to experience life as a human. First she tries to eat, but fails. Then she tries to have sex but fails because she has no vagina. Eventually she gets killed by a man that tries to rape her, and in doing so discovers she's not human.

It's a film about gender, specifically what it means to be a woman. It's a film that explores the relationship between men and women
It has an amazing score, amazing cinematography, brilliant use of non-actors, great acting by the actors, I found it captivating and it made me think about it after I'd seen it.

Daily reminder that if you liked Drive more than OGF you're literally pleb, you're shitting on Refn's work and breaking his heart.

there's not even nothing wrong with it, but that's what you're doing

That's what I said. It's totally fine if you do for whatever reason, but OGF is a movie that Refn truly wanted to do and hold close in his heart, while Drive was more of a commercial move.
Drive is stil GOAT kino obviously

Too appreciated OGF is truly to appreciate Refn mastery of his art.

No, srsly. I get it and that's totally fine. Im not retarded. Different tastes are a thing I'm okay with.

the cinematography, the slow pacing to create a sense of dread, the ominous score, the conflict the birth of Christianity created in the film, the acting. it was a masterpiece in my opinion... having said that, i can understand why this movie may not be for everyone. i thought it was a genius piece of work
>>
>>64918597
hell yea man...just get ready for a very unique film. not your everyday movie.
>>
>>64919400
I know. And I'm not saying Drive is better, I just didn't watch OGF nearly often enough because it's not as neatly tied in to one of my favourite cinematic bloodlines, that is remakes of Le Samourai.

Here's what I like about the costume department's work so much, it's basically just their work on Gosling's character to point out his connection to japanese culture.

>The jacket
The jacket is based on japanese souvenir jackets as Gosling likes them in private.

>The jeans
They jeans Gosling is wearing in the film are from Acne, a european brand that uses japanese denim.

>The toothpick
This one does it for me. I had no idea why the driver always worked that fucking toothpick but after reading the Hagakure it was pretty obvious. There's one passage in the book where it is said that a samurai should always carry a toothpick in his mouth even if he hasn't eaten for days so that although he may be starving he will look well nourished and fit to anyone who might approach him.

No wonder this is called Autism: The Movie so often.

Rio Bravo

>The story, all the action happens in the town
>Minimal dialogue, you understand character's emotion and motivation just by acting and directing
>Great performances by everyone, especially by Dean Martin, he deserved an Oscar for his performance
>The music, hypnotic and sets the mood perfectly
>Character arcs, there is real and believable character development
>The story is slow paced and atmospheric
>Good humour
>Masterful and beautiful directing by Howard Hawks

This is a beautiful Western
Modern directors should take a lesson from Rio Bravo instead of mimicking spaghetti westerns

Dumb shit, it's a film that spends the first half of it showing the same fucking routine of driving around, picking up a guy and fucking him till he drowns in petrol, and then the whole schmick sort of tries to get somewhere else since picking guys up isn't fun enough to be the only thing that happens in the movie, but it doesn't know where to go and ends up masturbating itself thinking it's achieved something deep.

Oh also, muh deep visuals.

>Knock Knock
Fucking agreed! One of the best films to come out this year!
It's been memed to death but I think it is actually a very funny and clever throwback to classic exploitation films. It also lends itself well to multiple viewings: There is a turning point in the film (the famous free pizza scene) at which the audience should realize that the girls are right and that Evan (Keanu Reeves) really is a hypocrite. Presenting himself as the progressive liberal artist type he truly is a materialist who only manages to keep up his false morale code of monogamy by being fortified in his high-security Hollywood rich people's settlement (notice the subtle outside shots showing fences and security cameras as well as the overhead shot of the neighbourhood in the very beginning, an ominous sign of things to come). The first time I watched it I was horribly stressed, enraged even, by the seemingly sporadic and unjustified acts of cruelty towards Evan and really only wanted the girls to get their just punishment. After thinking about the film for a while though and noticing its subtle social commentary I decided to rewatch it and this time got a good laugh out of all the over the top torture the main character is subjected to. Mind you, I already liked it the first time watching it: The beginning setting up Evan as a loving family father and the drawn out seduction sequence are beautiful in their own right and most of the jokes hit perfectly.
I am fairly certain that critical re-evaluation of the film will over the years elevate it above its current reputation as one of the worst horror films of 2015.

Amazing , pulsating, electrifying soundtrack that accompanies every single scene perfectly, a perfect symbiosis of images and music. An even more electrifying acting by every single member of the cast, there isn’t a single second of acting in this movie that’s anything short of fantastic.Believable, reliable characters you can actually care about and be emotionally connected to.The movie spits in the face and takes a huge dump on capeshit –loving manchildren and on hipster faggot contrarian scum equally, because both of those groups are equally obnoxious. GOAT cinematography from Lubezki that makes the whole experience of watching this masterpiece even more enjoyable, especially the surrealistic imagery in the main characters head.A GOAT ending, with a breathtakingly beautiful inspiring message about doing the things you love without pandering to anybody, and that if you work your ass off and put you heart and your mind into something that hard work and dedication will eventually pay off.
The only people who hate this movie are tryhard edgy contrarian /tv/ faggots.

On the off chance that you're actually serious, the last two episodes made absolutely no fucking sense, and they were terrible.

EoE shows you what happened during the last two episodes in the real world, doesn't make things any better, but at least gives us an ending to the series.

Watch it, but don't expect the universe of Evangelion to be unfucked from what's happened.

>On the off chance that you're actually serious, the last two episodes made absolutely no fucking sense, and they were terrible.

This is what I found fucking unbearable about anime, the fans that will forever prevent it from rising above mere entertainment. The final two scenes perfectly, in a profound and innovative fashion perfectly resolve the artistic themes that provide the basis for THE ENTIRE FUCKING SERIES. Seriously, I don't understand how anyone could watch NGE and not clearly see that it was ultimately an existential narrative. Despite the final two episodes not being how the writers intended to end the series because of budget problems, their creativity and willingness to raise the bar for their artistic medium made NGE into a straight up masterpiece. Seriously, if u honestly think this, get into art and then go back and rematch the entire thing and examine it as an artwork. Its comparable to the visual poetry of the Theatre of Absurd and surrealist directors like Jowdorowsky.

Sorry about the butthurt, like my first time on /tv/, from /mu/ and pretty much everyone is unbearably pretentious, but at least there's a universal acknowledgement of subjectivity in art and entertainment.

tl;dr: You're a pleb.

You're delving too deep into this, the last two episodes of the series made absolutely no sense at all. The budget cuts were most likely a factor for this, but they're still bad. EoE provided a coherent end to the series. Take is as that and you'll be fine.

Everyone on /tv/ is pretentious, it's always been this way.

I don't know, something about it strikes every right chord for me.
>creative animation and environments, every scene is interesting if not for that alone
>snappy humor with some wit, just keeps throwing jokes at you
>creative story considering it's a movie about building toys

truly the mark of a pleb. the "10/10" label goes easily on anything you personally like that doesn't have major production flaws. it's a mask for holding films to very low standards.

>plot was weak
I agree somewhat, but it's really focused more on character than plot.

>JGL's character is boring and oblivious most of the time
I disagree. He's definitely a stoic character, but he has some pretty great conflict and development (ratting out Seth, getting close to Sara and Sid, clashing with his future self, etc.) it's just fairly subdued.

> hold the plot together and not much else.
I think you might have missed the ending there mate. The film is about how he's trying to hold on to his lifestyle in both the present and the future, but in the end he grows enough to sacrifice himself instead of Sid, breaking the cycle of violence. Whether you understood it or not the plot is about him down to its core.

>>64937042
Yep Lord and Miller are fucking great.
>>
>>64922074
great film, but not a 10/10

10/10's should encapsulate the human experience/condition. If an alien species were to watch a 10/10 they'd know exactly and precisely what it is to be human.

Even some of the best directors have only made one of these kinds of films in their entire oeuvre despite making amazing films in sequence. 2001, Andrei Rublev and Tree of Life for instance. But there can also be films that perfectly epitomize their genres (horror, romance), but even these films are not 10/10's. They're 10/10s in their genre perhaps, but not perfect films overall.

This is just my take though obviously.

I also loved the ending of the show, plebs hate it because they wanted more EPIC ROBOT FIGHTAN!!!1 but I thought it was perfect getting all the world out of the way and focusing on emotion.

But....the film is also great, It has more exposure so its more external than internal but both are great endings (though I prefer the show's)
>>
>>64944505
It's not that it didn't have robot fighting, it's that the last two episodes were just what was happening inside Shinji's head, and completely disregarded what was happening in the real world.

That's not a satisfactory ending.
>>
>>64931649

Spielberg's Duel. Am I the only one who really likes this? Though it has a very simple and straightforward plot it really gets under your skin in a Hitchcockian sort of way. You feel the plight of the main character and it reflects the human condition in how much stress one can take. Hell of a finale too.

I really enjoyed this movie, but the third act was a complete mess. Instead of arriving to a point, he gives us a clusterfuck, and we're left trying to interpret the conclusion of the story through these fractured surreal scenes. Many of these scenes did nothing more than to say "hey look, this is symbolic!" (that stupid fucking comet, or the drummer that appears and reappears throughout the movie) and they only serve to imply meaning but not actually give any. There are many of these moments that feel like they are only there to make you think that something more is going (with the character or the story), but they never reveal any insights. This is basically the definition of bad symbolism, and the movie is full of it.
