Its on the CW. So its for the most part a girls show. The first 5 Seasons are great, plot driven episodes and monster of the week are usually well done.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the show was supposed to end at Season 5 but since the show was so popular they decided to continue the show. Season 6 and so on is fanfiction tier, monster designs start just being normal humans with funny looking eyes or 2 second cgi monster face. They start becoming too meta, and too self referencing.

Its basically driven by tumblr at this point, and its a shadow of its former self. So I'd say, after Season 6 it is basically a tumblr girl show.

But the first 5 Seasons are great.

Google all the Wincest fanfic. Read as much as you can stomach then walk away from the show forever.

It could have ended at season 2. The head writer Eric Kripke had a vague idea of how the show would end at season 5 but most of the relevant plot points were concluded in the season 2 finale in case the show got axed. The show was popular enough to continue which meant Kripke could flesh out his ideas and finish his story. Everything after season 5 is fanfiction tier since he had no involvement.

The first 2 seasons (and 3 to a lesser extent) are based though if you're looking for a X-Files type show. It's basically just two bros traveling the country, hunting spirits, creatures etc. all while looking for their dad who's gone missing, accompanied by a classic rock soundtrack.

Somehow I think if it had, it would have left me wanting so much more. In contrast, as it kept going after Season 5 it just felt to me it was too much after that, like each season after 5 is just them trying to one up the stakes of the last season.

Something could be said about that, in shows in general. A show can end too soon and leave people wanting, or over stay its welcome leaving people bored with the same shit.

It's not a 'girl show', but it has a large female fanbase that wants either the brothers to bang or Dean and Cas to bang, both of which will never happen. Destiel fangirls still hold out hope, despite being shit on repeatedly for years.
