It's way too early to say it's the best sci-fi thing they have done, maybe recently, but you're going up against Stargate, BSG, Farscape, etc. and this show has only had 5 episodes.

It's ok, it's nothing superb yet though I think it will get better as the characters develop more.

yeah, i'm not trying to say this is sopranos of scifi and syfy, but it's been the best new thing in years, and i agree with the potential. i love the world building and acknowledge that all early eps of a tv series that has to introduce a variety of characters comes across as hamfisted and the series usually matures past that quickly and comes into its own. hope that's what happens with expanse.

The UN troops rush the station and pretty much shoot everyone. Apparently there's a famous shot of Dave Johnson standing among all the bodies just looking lost. They tried to capture it with him on the space deck, but he just looked chubby in the cardboard armor.

To be fair the one that spawned the whole thing did like five years of world building intending for it to be an MMO then Tabletop RPG before the other was like "Dude, you've done more prep work than like 95% of conventional sci-fi. Make it books"

Not that that should take away from the accomplishment of getting these out so regularly, but that kind of framework isn't going to be there for just any writing duo

Can anyone rec me good tv sci fi drama? I'm totally new to the genre, actually this show is almost my first hard sci fi, except I started watching star trek tos a while ago. (I'm going slow with it because the show is sometimes too campy and wacky. Right now I'm at the episode where Kirk decides to become an indian wtf)
Tbh I didn't expect much from tv shows' product values so was not that interested in them, but I'm floored by this one and want more. I've heard a lot of Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5.. Are they a good start?

B5 I found really difficult to get into to start, I think it's one where folks commonly say the first season or two can be skipped. It was starting to pick up then I lost interest for various unrelated goings on- been meaning to pick it back up.
BSG is pretty good early to mid, and goes off the rails at the end.
Depending on your camp to serious ratio preferred and show duration, Farscape and Stargate are personal favorites of mine.
