Von Braun is from Alien Planet.

Alien Planet was based mainly off Wayne Barlowe's Expedition field guide book. He had another book, Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials, might be worth looking at. For all the hate it gets, consider the extended version of Avatar; Cameron worked very closely with many biologists to make the plants and animals of Pandora uniquely alien and realistic for the setting.
Unfortunately, hard speculative evolution concepts remain mostly locked in the realm of scifi novels and videogames and don't really get the confidence of movie producers.

It's split into two kinds of human evolution if I recall.
One part is about the humans who stay behind and how they become more animal-like as the millennia drag on.
The other part focusses on those who went into space and their increasing transhumanism to the point that they're unrecognizable.

I really hated Alien Planet. They tried to set it up like a film, going "ooh, what are we gonna find?" when it should have been set up like a nature documentary and explored the plausible possibilities of alien life.

The Future Is Wild was great.
