All the other players require autistic levels of tinkering around that it's impossible for them not to sneer at VLC's download&play immediately convenience.

Only issue I personally have with VLC is that its record feature is shitty on files bigger than SD so I have to resort to other video-cutting software if I'd rather not just keep the entire file

it's much lighter than vlc, works fine on its own and still has a lot of room for tinkering if you want to use madvr, lavfilters and all that stuff
