The character has more emphasis in the show, and so people who only watch the show think that he's one of the best fighters in the world. In reality, he's a mercenary that can give some "knights" trouble because they're not terribly competent fighters to begin with and they're used to fighting exactly one way.

Jaime, like most of the people that are being mentioned, is a tournament fighter. Loras, Brienne, Jaime... etc. These are people who have been trained to fight exactly one way, against one kind of opponent, in an arena.
