What age did you first solo travel at? And how it did it impact you?
Im 19 years old and completely on autopilot right now in life. I have saved up enough money to easily travel south east asia and I plan on doing it solo. Is this a good plan? Ive never been outside my own country.
I first solo traveled on a long trip at 23. I had done non solo trips before that that helped me feel prepared, but honestly it's nothing difficult. If you're not some crazy fearless fool, you'll be fine, and if you are a crazy fearless fool, you'll have a great time.

You haven't given us any reason to think it's not a good idea.

I was 27 when I first started traveling. It made a significant impact because I learned how much time I've wasted doing fuck all.
I wish I started when I was your age. Do it ASAP. You might feel a little scared at first, but it's better than letting it scare you for 8 more years like I did. Rip that fucking bandaid.

26.
I kept asking and nobody was interested. One friend thought anything that wasn't a business investment was a waste of money, roommate didn't care because his only interests were getting drunk and he does that here, family is both xenophobic and afraid of flying.
It was either go alone, or never leave and I was sick of waiting.

I am 19, and was when I took my solo trip this summer to Central America.
I have minor Spanish ability and more people spoke English there I'm sure than in SE Asia. It was fairly easy for me.
Now, traveling solo vs. With a partner? Imo solo is overrated. Yes, you'll be able to do what you want when solo. But it's easy to pick up a friend with similar travel interests. Traveled with a few days with a person I met on the hostel. When I travel with someone I find myself much more confident to put myself in risky, stupid, but /adventurous/ situations than when I'm alone. Maybe that's just me. But having someone there, just another head to rely on, definitely bolstered my confidence.
For me traveling alone will be more touristy. Perhaps I just lack the confidence to do things like hitchhike, or climb a mountain non-tour group, or other cool stuff when by myself. But if that sounds like you, I'd recommend bringing a friend or picking someone up in a hostel

I was 17, went to Europe for 2 months after my high school graduation was actually pretty great. Since I was a minor I could get into all the museums for free but also take advantage of the lax age related laws. I saved money for two years working retail and living at home. When I was in the Netherlands and Germany I went crazy and spent money on booze, drugs and escorts, went as a nervous inexperienced child and came back a man. My childhood dog even died the day before I left for the trip

I studied abroad in Singapore when I was 18 a couple years back.
Singapore is a pretty easy city to live in, its basically America lite with a couple interesting quirks. Nothing super exciting but nothing life-threatening either so I guess that just how it goes.
I was just a kiddo from generic suburb #51909 so any city is gonna be fun to explore, especially for the first time. I'd recommend just going there first to get used to how international travel works, and then maybe taking a bus to KL or a plane to Bali or something when you're ready to actually go wild

I should also add that >>1296319 is absolutely right. I didn't have the energy to see things by myself because I easily talked myself out of it. Even a shitty city like Cleveland can become fun and interesting when you have friends to joke around with, I highly recommend convincing a friend if you can before you go. So many times did I see something cool or something interesting and thought "Man, X would have loved to see this" or "Lol I wonder what the guys would say if they saw this"
There's just some things that are more fun when friends are around.
