I came to Vietnam 2 weeks ago.
This place is really great to travel.
The beautiful scenes there are many,
The dishes are also rich.
If you have ideas to go to Vietnam then I suggest you do it.
This is a dish in Vietnam that you can not ignore. Grill.

I was thinking about going this winter. Did you spend more time in the city or countryside? Any pros/cons of each?

bump, also interested
I spent a couple of weeks with a 13 friends in 2014, it was pretty sweet. The country seems to cater very well to western tourists and there are tour operators (and scammers) everywhere.

vietnam is only worth it if you get a bike and avoid the hostel circuit. it is the worst place I have been on my year of travel. good thing that picture of ha long bay is so zoomed out, it hides how filthy it is. Vietnam is a consumerist hellhole filled with bogans getting drunk. it was probably nice 20 years ago.

That's kinda the point though. It's the uninformed who stay in the big cities and the backpacker areas. The whole allure of Vietnam is hopping on a bike and venturing wherever you please. If you do it right, Vietnam is an excellent place to visit.

How does it compare to other SEA countries? Better? Worse?

Much worse, but with more Real Traveler(tm) cred.

not OP but countryside is where its at. Hanoi and Saigon are crazy after a few days I couldn't wait to leave and get to nature

only went to the North but people generally seemed less warm than in other parts of SEA
the landscape absolutely shits on Cambodia though. and it's less comercialised than Thailand, though not by a huge amount in some places
