idk about spain in particular but Ive been studying in EU (France) for awhile as an American and I've taken basic toiletries, power converters (important), laptop, bedsheets etc. Just basic shit. Also try to learn the language before you come as this region of western EU (spain) is renown for their inability to speak passable English. If you don't speak Spanish prepare to have some difficulty.
Also EUros dont generally have airconditioning, dryers and sometimes lack washers. Be prepared for some culture shock ie: kissing people on the cheeks as a greeting. Also don't fuck up and only hang with fellow american students, put some effort in to meet locals and break out of your comfort zone a bit. You will more than likely be able to fuck some qt spaniards and make lifelong friends if you go out without toting your monolingual american friends with you. Real advice.
Feel free to ask any other questions, although Im studying in a different EU country they are quite similar on many levels.
