Anyone been to the Isle of Skye? What's it like? When is the best time to go?
September - October is prettiest in the classical Scottish way. Foggy and Rainy.
The air is crisp and fresh and everything is turning colour.

the 'isle' of skye has a bridge and should be stripped of its island status
no locals left, overrun by rich english retired people and absolutely mobbed with tourists, it's a theme park and the rest of the highlands is following, fuck the NC500

Would like to agree with this. Went to Scotland two times- once in October and to Skye in April. Former was significantly more enjoyable for the reasons you mentioned.
Not as much vegetation in Skye though.. so if you like rocks and shrubs

probably as many landscapes in other parts of Scotland too. And surely fewer tourists. Loch Coruisk and the walk to it was awesome, by far the best far from my trip there. But it's not a hidden gem. The lochside was supposed to feel remote and quiet, but there were 2 tents.. Enough to revisit the ratio of sights/lack of tourists- once again in the favour of peace and quiet.

Wet, windy, beautiful and plagued with midges

Wonderfull if you get out the car and go for a walk. Any time spring to autumn DEET is essential. Winter no midges but the weather can be exciting. I have been in the hut at Coruisk and watched a good and well pitched mountain tent destroyed by the wind. Compasses in the Cuillin are not reliable! Talisker is one of my favourites.
