Thoughts on the 'Party Hostel' ? Are they worth the hype?

Do you like hostels? Do you like parties?
If so, yes.

They are fun if you are traveling with a group, or if you're ok with making friends on the go. If you're a socially awkward recluse, you might spend all your time hiding in your shared room and listening to everyone else have fun

The reason I book lodging is so I can have a place to sleep when I'm traveling.

These kinds of places look difficult to get sleep in.

Depends how old you are, what the alternatives outside the hostel are like, and how many Americans are there

No. It's essentially a bunch of people competing to tell better stories of their travels (they're almost never good stories) or trying to out drink everyone else. You have the exact same conversations with everyone and all the socializing games and activities are high school tier. I have met some cool people and had some decent nights out of it, but it really isn't that enjoyable. Go when you feel like it and have nothing else to do

This is annoying as fuck. I insta booked a party hostel in Krakow 'cause my friend told me there were babyfoot (foosball) tournaments every night.
I didn't really know party hostels existed or what they were about, and I couldn't sleep the 4 nights I was there because every time there'd be some animals fucking like they were doing porn in an 8 person dorm. Being tired when traveling sucks alot. Also there were no babyfoot tournaments at all.

Party hostel population is shallow as fuck, so many fratboys and the staff looks 100% done with everyone's bullshit.

Also I was staying there with my girlfriend... Don't go there if you aren't single. I kinda had an epiphany with how degenerate western tourists are, especially in this kind of place. I mean, I'd never seen people fucking irl aside from myself so that might have shocked my little prudeness but holy shit do I not recommend going to a party hostel.
