How does /trv/ like to kill time on long flights?
>>
Most planes have screens on the back of every seat now. Just watch a film or two and some episodes of a Comfy comedy.
>>
Alcohol.
>>
Read a good book. or watch episodes of a good series, (or movie for that matter)
>>
>>1275496
The only way to fly is to read for an hour, maybe play a game or watch an episode of something then take a few Valium and sleep the rest of the trip away. Once you drug fly, you'll never do it another way.
>>
Fly business class and you will love and enjoy every second instead of hating evey hour.

It's another world an you will not want to leave the aircraft anymore.
>>
>>1275496
If it's a night flight I just sleep, I make sure to have some of those foam earplugs and a sleep mask. I'm fortunate enough to be on some prescription meds that has drowsiness as a side effect, so I will get pretty tired after about 45mins of taking them. Perhaps look into some sleeping tablets from your local pharmacy, I know a lot of people are against taking unnecessary meds but if you're only taking a single tablet a few times a year for a long-haul night flight then its unlikely to do anymore harm to your body than having a single cig or beer.

For a day flight I will usually just watch some in-flight movies/telly shows. If I'm travelling abroad I will watch some of the local movies. Sometimes I will read a book. After about noon or whenever they start serving lunch I will have a beer and from then on I'll usually just drink. Just make sure to stay hydrated because planes are as dry as a desert, you just don't realise it cause it's so fucking cold.
>>
>>1275516
I've flown business and first before, and man, I wish I could do it every flight. I'm about to fly to Japan and I'm stuck in a shit middle seat in coach. (What really sucks is the company was supposed to get me premium economy but it was full on the flight I need to take.)
>>
>>1275516
I agree, this is the reason I will only spend the money on flying business or first class on day flights. There is no point in flying business or first class at night because you will be asleep and won't be able to enjoy it, unless of course you're not paying for it or you're really rich.
>>
>>1275519

That's the real question. I mean sleeping in a flat bad is REAL sleep not this kinda selfkilling vegetating in coach seats.

So if you really want to get to your destination fit and with enough sleep - business is the way to go.

But I totally agree with you, flying business is just to good to waste the time with sleeping.

My next flight in business (full flat bed) is ~hours. So finally I will be able to get a full sleep in the bed PLUS enjoying many hours of the flight awake ;-)
>>
>>1275519
It's the other way around for me. I don't mind being in a cramped seat if I'm awake and staring at a book or screen all flight anyway, but I can't sleep worth a damn if I'm upright. I need a seat that comes somewhere close to approximating a bed if I want to get any shuteye.
>>
>>1275520
missing *14 hours
>>
>>1275521
Ah yeah I can see your point but I fly business so infrequently that it's a novelty for me so I want to experience it to it's fullest. I'm used to knocking myself out with some meds for economy too.
>>
Honestly I have no idea. I've been to Asia at least 20 times and I'm pretty sure I spend most of my time just watching the route map on the seatback screen and sleeping.

>>
>>1275496
I can't sleep on planes, so watch movies, stare out the window (unless overnight flight) take super long poops. Try to focus on the back of a loud child's head and will it to explode. Sometimes find random channels on youtube and watch all their videos.
https://youtu.be/ZsIineWjehM
>>
I was lucky to have two or three seats to myself on my last 6/8 long haul overnight flights so I managed to sleep pretty comfy
>>
>>1275542
First few of this really.

I'll use a tablet more often though, since laptops can be bulky/run out of power, and I use headphones anyway.

>>if you have someone with you you can buy a cheap 0.60$ headphone jack splitter to share audio.
>>
>>1275496
Why would you ever need to kill time on a plane?
I mean the 30min without a drink between takeoff and lunch/dinner service are terrible but I usually use that time to read the wine menu or setup the inflight wifi.
>>
>>1275542
>torrents in 2017
You don't even need that shit. Stop being autistic and just watch one of the 1000 movies and shows that even cheap flights provide.

Last time I flew abroad I had a great time exploring foreign content that I wasn't even familiar with back home.
>>
>>1275583
>Wew lad

That's some next level autisimo right there boy
>>
I usually get rip roaring drunk on long flights. Time goes by pretty fast that way.
>>
>>1275496

Why would I need to kill time? Every moment of my flying is generally pleasurable. Given that I only fly first class and am approved for TSA-Pre, my interaction with the general public is reduced to a bare minimum.

>Get to airport
>skip security
>go to centurion lounge for free (amex platinum cardholder)
>start drinking
>eat some of the free high-society cuisine
>take out my MacBook Pro and browse expensive watch forums
>once my flight is boarding, i go over and get boarded first before all the plebs
>sit down in first class where I belong
>attendants close the curtains
>inb4 some retard tells me that hurr durr first class is behind the boarding doors meaning you still have to see the peasants. yfw i only fly model jets that have the first class seating to the left of the boarding door with the peasant seats to the right
>get pre-flight drink
>get another pre-flight drink
>pre flight snack
>take off
>get another drink
>served my high-society lunch/dinner/breakfast
>make arrogant and conceited posts on twitter and instagram about how I hate flying commercial pretending I have flown private before (I have but just on one-way deadleg charter jets that are dirt cheap and make you feel like a badass, never actually my own trip.)
>first to disembark
>straight to livery service waiting for me (sounds badass again but executive sedans are literally the same price these days as a taxi)

For any of those interested, I marked in the diagram below what I am talking about. It's actually a pretty huge topic of debate in travel communities.

The line I made in red indicates where you don't want the plane to board (if you're flying first class) as it makes all the economy passengers walk by the first class cabin which is annoying. We paid for luxury. We don't want to see or hear those disgusting mouthbreathers

The green line indicates the correct place to board. First class passengers go immediately to the left and the rest of the peasants go to the right. There is no fuss or hoopla.
>>
>>1275602
>We don't want to see or hear those disgusting mouthbreathers

I dunno. Everytime I fly biz class I love watching their miserable faces as they shuffle to the back of the plane with a crying baby and 7 roller bags. Makes the pre-flight champagne taste even better.
>>
>>1275496
I usually find a well hung fuck-stud in first class. I'll then ask him to accompany me to the rear of the aircraft (I'm a flight attendant, btw). Once we're out of the way of prying eyes (my coworkers know what I'm doing) I'll have him drop his pants and go to town on his cock. If it takes me more than ten minutes to get him off, I'll let him fuck me. Long flights seem a lot shorter when you're bent over a serving cart getting pounded from behind
>>
>>1275496
>Get drunk/tipsy before the flight
>get on plane
>plug in headphones
>sleep

Additionally I just stay up all night the day before a 12 hour flight and sleep the whole time
>>
I don't come to /trv/ much but are all these 1st class comment a regular joke or what?
I killed time on international flight by watching movies on the laptop
>>
>>1275496
Learn to sleep on planes. I have and it's like being rocked in a giant cradle.

I recommend music, to help with the noise, though. Find an album that lasts an hour or longer that you can be lulled to sleep with, and have it on repeat.
>>
>>1275673
What about it seems like a joke to you? People fly first class so they don't have to sit near the poor. There's nothing funny about it
>>
>>1275673
It's not a joke, /trv/ is full of business regulars.
It's the board of the shitposter from 2008 that now have a nice job and a family. Didn't you notice the number of mild midlife crisis, honeymoon, luxury travel threads etc?

Once on 4chan always on 4chan.
>>
>>1275673
The plane lands at all the same time. It's most people bragging about it because "HAHA NOT YOU" when they paid 100+ more for 2 inches of leg room, or just used skymiles
>>
>>1275498
even in economy? i've only done 2-3 hour flights
>>
>>1275589
hes not wrong you sperg. once you come out of your mom's basement and get a job maybe you'll appreciate getting media legally. I used to think torrenting was the shit when I was like 17
>>
>>1275695
Not him, but yes. It's been years since I've last flown, but there were no screens on 3-5h flights 8 years ago, so that might have changed. There were screens on cross continental flights though with movies, cartoons and I'm not sure but maybe even games that you could play with this gay ass remote.
>>
>>1275697
It's not about the legality of torrenting. It's about appreciate the film in its rightful quality. Streaming is shit.

>>
>>1275602
You never flew first class, right?

What you posted is the map of a shorhaul plane and the seats in the front are called "first class" or "domestic first" (mostly in the US) but has nothing todo with first class.

You know you are flying first class when the space of your seat takes the space equal to 4 or 5 rows of economy seats.

Bregging about flying frist while showing some cheap shorthaul business is funny though.
>>
>>1275695
>>1275700

Depends on the airline.

Spirit has few amenities even on its inter-continental flights, which is why I prefer to pay an extra $50 to travel with Delta if I'm heading to Latin America.

JetBlue has a handful of television channels, but I've never bothered much with their in-flight entertainment system.

Virtually every major airline should have a decent selection of movies and TV shows for long-haul flights. I'll normally sleep for a couple of hours after take-off and then watch movies until I get tired enough to nap again.

I'm gifted in the sense that I have a hard time staying awake in vehicles that I'm not personally operating.

I remember I once had a non-stop 16 hour flight from New Delhi to Chicago. Had the row to myself and just laid down and slept for the first 13 hours and then watched Batman for the remainder of the journey.

>>
>>1275809
Yeah but actually you are a fucking ugly looking virgin who just wrote his dirty little fantasy down for us...
>>
>>1275712
It's first class as far as anyone else is concerned. You won't find that tier of seating unless you're doing coast to coast domestic in which case some airlines will let you use their transcontinental jets or jetblues mint seats which are all more or less reclining couches/beds with a small partition. What you are describing is international first class which even I am admittedly too much of a peasant to afford ($6-12k for a ticket). For international, I just do business which is overkill as it is l. It's basically a step between a lay down bed and a private suite depending on the airline
>>
>>1275496
VR porn and jack off under my blanket. Take a nap. Repeat until landing

I try to find a movie or something to watch on the screen in front of me but I usually just end up dosing in and out of turbulence thinking the worst and trying not to look out the window and pretend I'm on a train while playing Hillsong and saying the name Jesus over and over again, while my friends just act like it's nothing to worry about.
>>
>>1275508
>Valium
So go the doctor and say I am flying on a plane for long distance and need something to calm down and sleep through the trip?
>>
I used to chink bus back and forth to NYC which was about 6 hours of the bus going 90 miles per hour while I worried about impending death constantly. Pretty sure an airplane is easy mode compared to that.
>>
>>1275496
Best just keep announcing in a loud voice that you had a dream about this flight, and that it crashed and everyone was killed and now it all seems like deja vu. Even the people on board are the same as your dream and how can that be. Especially fun if there is turbulence.
>>
>>1275860

>somehow 4 more hours passed and it's the pre-descent snack.
>find an interesting foreign film to watch
>look outside during descent

The 12 hours pass surprisingly quickly unless some idiot opens their window and blinds everyone.

The only suffering is having to excercise your legs, back pain from slouching, and having to go to the washroom but can't because turbulence.
>>

My most recent flights were with JAL & Cathay Pacific. I had a pretty damn good time.

In no particular order:
>watched Kimi no Na wa ("Your Name") for the first time
>watched the Assassination Classroom live-action movie
>watched a few episodes of Family Guy
>watched The Hangover
>watched Daddy's Home
>tried watching the Peanuts movie but fell asleep too many times
>watched most of Edward Scissorhands then fell asleep towards the end
>played the shit out of Tetris
>got my ass kicked by the computer in Street Fighter II (damn in-flight remote controls are shit for combos)
>drank and drank and drank and drank
>practiced Japanese with the flight attendants (I'm Asian, and they kept mistaking me for a Jap)

Honestly, the worst part of the flight was how sore my ass was from the seat.
>tried cushioning it with the pillow & the blanket
>it helped for like a few minutes
>then literal butthurt all over again
>recently learned that not all airlines actually change the pillows & blankets between each flight, some of them actually just fold them back up nicely
>hopefully JAL & CX are better than this

>>

When the business gets into trouble they just shut it down and open another business in one of their kids or other family members name. Most of the east coast is hooked up with a chink bus service to some degree through user experience may vary between companies. The company I used was a 60$ roundtrip (if you bought singular 1ways it was 35$ a piece) to NYC from Hampton Roads VA which was a six hours bus ride in the middle of the night up the eastern shore and get dropped off Chinatown Manhattan.
>>
>>1276375
I am worried about taking long distance flights because after about five hours I get antsy in the seat because my ass hurts. Standing up usually helps with that, but I doubt the stewardess will want a passenger standing up for extended periods of time.
>>
>>1276393
>I doubt the stewardess will want a passenger standing up for extended periods of time.
It's not as uncommon as you think. I saw a lot of people standing/walking around the cabin. Quite a few of them even did some light exercises. It's even more common if you're flying to/from Japan.
>>
>>1275496
i typically read a book, it is not uncommon for me to fly 12+ hour flights and it is the only time I am disconnected from work

I haven't really heard of any rules against walking/standing around cabins (except for takeoff & landing), and I can't imagine any airline being against it (except for maybe the really cheap ones like Ryanair).

Downloaded music is a copyright issue, which is civil law, not criminal. If anyone ever wanted to pursue you, the companies that legally own the music would have to *sue* you (which very rarely happens), it's not a matter for the police to chase after you to throw you in jail.

>what phone apps are mandatory for flying?
Games if you don't like the selection in the in-flight entertainment (or if your flight doesn't have in-flight entertainment)
Language apps (not just translators; even things like phrasebooks); normally this would be something to use at your destination, but it could come in handy during your flight if the cabin crew doesn't speak, or poorly speaks the languages that you're most comfortable with.

Because a lot of airlines got rid of first class and replaced it by a premium business on all or most routes.

>>
>>1275602
I wholeheartedly agree and I've only flown first class 2 or 3 times, so this is my perspective as a economy passenger. Your points are valid. Also, it's just a logistical nuisance to let people sitting in front board first and then try to get everyone to force their way through tight quarters while carrying their carry-on bags...now with all of the seats full. They also try to serve drinks to first class passengers right away so you commonly have a flight attendant trying to shuffle through all the economy passengers with a tray of drinks.

It's ridiculous. Board you mentioned, and for flights that have reserved seats, board back to front for economy class.

I like looking out of the window and seeing the landscape change, looking at little islands or villages that I'll never go to, mountains that nobody has probably ever gone up etc.

Aside from that read, sleep or watch films.

I jerk off, all day. Im shooting loads maybe every 10 minutes im getting up to go to the bathroom. I used to keep it on dl, but now im pretty open. Ill just go in the bathroom and jack it. I might a good 10 sessions in if im lucky. Best part is when im in an empty plane, i dont even need to leave my seat, ill just jack it right there. First time i got caught jackin it at my seat It freaked me out, i didn't do it for a while, but now i get caught on the reg and Im used to it. Usually just a quick apology will work, they'll understand. I might even jack off walking to the bathroom, shoot my load on a random passenger. They don't mind, its just a bit of cum, I just so im sorry and move on. Hell, I've started jacking it in the airport terminals, before and during boarding. Just whip it out and go. People understand, its a natural thing for guys, they get it, they allow it. Sometimes Ill go through security with my schlong drooping out, jerking off. I mean, you can pretty much get through anything tedious by jerking off. Car wash, awkward dinners, funerals. I've came on dead bodies before, its no big deal, going in the ground anyway. I mean, every so often I'll be sitting in a cafe and talking with someone and ill just pull er out and get at it. I've cum on shoes, sidewalks, cars, books, ladders, mugs, steeples, paint cans, lunar landers, pretzels, bosnian flags, pink floyd merch, electrical sockets, lampshades, ceilings, KFCs, a tarpin and two chinese resturants. You name it I've probably jerked off onto it. I'd even go as far as to say jerkin its my hobby. Maybe even my proffesion. Im a pro masturbater. But to be honest, really honest, jerking off is a lifestyle. You gotta really dedicate yourself to the craft. Gotta really understand the deep intricacies of self-pleasure. If you don't have a passion for beating your dick i just don't think you can really be taken seriously. Everyone I know jerks it. Any business they have is conducted with their dick in their hands.

Not only burgers, of course, but at least they recognize that it's a really fucked-up part of their culture. You see it in that terrible heroin epidemic now.

I know that airline stewards/stewardesses really hate it. We think of them as waitresses, but their main task is to organize people to get safely off a plane in the case of emergency... now imagine trying to do that with a plane full of obese, tranquilized Americans.
>>
I've got a 9.5 hour flight to Vienna in a few weeks, then traveling on to Podgorica.

Normally I'd just drink like i do flying around the states, but I've never really traveled internationally before. (Been to Canada)

I start to get a little anxious after a couple of hours on an airplane.

You could do what millions of patriotic, God-fearing Ameriburgers have done in your situation and go to your local GP, complain about a sore back, and get a prescription for opiods strong enough to sedate an elephant.

Or you could bring a book to read.

I work for a major Canadian airline and I fucking hate flying. I take Dramamine before every flight because I occasionally get sick. Occasionally I'll have a beer and take two melatonin tablets beforehand and I'm usually asleep about 10 minutes after we take off. Then I wake up after 3-6 hours and drift in and out until It's legit too tiring to try and sleep again so I just stare at the seat in front on me.

I have a 9hr flight to Amsterdam and then to Moldova later this year that's gonna suck the D.

Pic unrelated

Heh, I fly everywhere in business or first. I disagree: I'd much rather get great sleep in and then arrive awake and refreshed instead of feeling like shit for 1-2 days because I barely slept in a shit seat.
>>
I do long haul quite a bit between N.America and Asia on business. Used to have to deal with economy but since promotion a few years ago I now get business class. I can't go back.

I usually have trouble sleeping on a plane, even with a lay-flat in business class but there are really only a few variations of the same themes...

1. Stay up the night before and be tired as hell when you board, hope to pass out quickly.

2. Alcohol + medication. I've had good luck with a couple quick Bourbons + Ambian

3. Natural fatigue prior to flight. Think long walk or good workout a few hours before hand but not sleep deprivation.

For me, #3 works best. Also limit food intake. I watch a movie upon boarding, then will nibble around whatever horrible thing they serve (even in first class/business food usually sucks... I eat the fruit, sample the veggies, and skip the rest). After first meal its reading time, try to read 1-2 hrs. That puts me into sleep mode. Lay flat then sleep, can usually get 5-6 hours. Wake up and have 4-5 hrs to go on the long-haul to Asia (its 14.5 hrs from JFK to China). Light second meal (fruit again, skip the rest) and then binge watch whatever TV shows I have on my tablet or read until landing.

I 'may' have one or two drinks but try to avoid it. Gone down the whole 'get loaded on a plane and try to pass out' thing... you just wake up hungover with 1/2 a flight still to go. Not a good feeling.

First I go to the airline's entertainment page to see what movies they got I hate bringing a movie on my phone/tablet that they already have.

I fly back and forth to Taiwan from USA and its a long haul:

Cellphone -stuffed with movies and music, to talk shows ( howard stern), stand up comedy, a variety. a battery pack, it has games as well.

PSP and bring that along because the battery life is excellent - about 6 games, and again I could load it up with movies, music etc but I usually don't bother. its about a 13 hour flight

headphones that cover my entire ear.. work like a dream if you put earplugs in too when you need silence from a crying baby.

I also bring chapstick, tissues, anti-diarrea pill, mints, so I dont disturb my neighbor too bad.
sucks.. next flight I am riding middle seat.

Rather than just killing time, get your good relaxation and sleep, without that little constant awareness of the people around you, and that is ONLY possible with active noise cancelling headphones that go around the back of each ear. You really have no idea the loud and distracting/irritating nature until you get in the cocoon of the bubble of blissful peace.

For your brain that is now able to sleep or read or do a puzzle or browse pictures/news, then you can make sure you have a variety of that. Print out those sudokus, kenkens and crosswords from the morning paper (or pick up a newspaper or two in the airport), get your pen and clip it there, and put in your seatback. Have 2 novels already going on your kindle or tablet, something fiction, something not, maybe not even necessarily travel related, but could be historically set in the city you're going, murder mystery or something. Or you can read those pdfs of restaurants, sights and things you tossed on there last minute (offline viewing). Then maybe a graphic novel or fashion magazine. Then, on the listening front, I always like to have a "live in concert" of a favorite band, and a standup comedian, or some longass talk radio interviews or podcasts. A very tiny ipod will be no drain on the battery life. You can listen to audio and fall asleep to it if you choose your white noise low bpm ambient stuff well.

Big ol liter of water purchased post security. Being hydrated makes you feel normal. Drink up. Avoid the salt, alcohol or sugar frenzy in your snacking. Keep it simple. I usually buy unsalted nuts or mix, a granola bar, whole piece of fruit, dark chocolate, maybe some gummies or cough drops.

Comfort, a wool scarf handles itself well as a neck roll, warmth, maybe even some light comfort to the legs. Squishy shoes/crocs. A puffy vest adds comfort to a shitty hard seat and with a high collar can cushion better than a neck pillow. Moist towelettes for sanitizing or feeling fresh. Wash face.

for trans atlantic or trans pacific
1- Drink 2 or 3 vodka sodas in the airport lounge, eat a decent meal
2- get comfy on the plane- get a drink when dinner service starts, then pop a xanax.
3- sleep until breakfast, keep a bag of twizzlers or something with you if you wake up to pee.
I pirate tv shows to my iphone, so I can just fall asleep to something easy like family guy for background noise

for shorter domestic flights, just anything like a tv show I havent watched in a while usually amuses me enought. US domestic flights with gogo wifi are awesome.
