Yes... stray away from montego bay.. negril is laid back and the beach there is amazing.. the people are cool as hell... if you get away from the resort areas be prepared for slums poverty and beggars... can recommend negril for sure and heard ocho rios is chill as hell too

kingston is perfectly safe for tourists. everyone there has their own thing going and doesn't give fuckall about random whiteys, unlike the cruise ship ports montego bay and ocho rios where everyone's life is hustling. kingston's murder rates are almost exclusively due to gang blood feuds, and something tells me op doesn't look like a jamaican gangster. south coast was the best part of the island imo-no one there is trying to braid your hair or sell you weed.

Although I enjoyed Jamaica, it was difficult to avoid the tourist traps.. one anon mentioned the south coast, I would agree with that. It was way more chill. Negril is good for partying, so was montego bay, but way seedier. Ocho Rios was a cruise ship port. It felt like the locals just put on their rasta costumes and relentlessly tried to rip you off.
Outside of the resorts I found the lodging options pretty slim.
Never went to Kingston or Blue Mountain..
Good food, good music, English speaking, kinda expensive, constant hustlers. If you are a male they push drugs and prostitutes, if you're a female they swing their big dicks around trying to fuck everything. Big bamboo, as they say. I found most backpacker chicks were so sick of it that they welcomed hanging out with another traveler who didn't give off the rape vibe.. it worked out well for me.. always had girl friends around.

Didn't see alot of hostals. . Reggae hostal in Ocho was cheesy but clean and safe and good location.. Judy house in Negril was a good place. Nice cabins, and good common area.
Down south it was more private apartment rentals.. or Jakes place but that looked like a bit of a rip.
