Greyhound lost my luggage last year because a trip that was supposed to have 1 bus change ended up having 4. I never received any compensation for it either, I called and emailed and went to their offices... Unfortunately for me I had some valuables in there as I was coming back home after an accident while traveling and ended up losing quite a lot of valuables because of it. Oh well, I will never use their services again, I'd rather pay more and fly.
Greyhound is indeed pretty bad.
In my city you can pre-purchase tickets online, but that does not in fact guarantee your seat. You still have to show up early to claim your seat.
