Since this is a eurobread I have a question
My 6 month visa is about to expire and I'm no refugee trying to stay but would happen if I left a month after my visa expires?
The flight cost difference is 4x so I'm wondering if there's some grace period like >leave in 30 days or you're fucked

Don't risk it. Even a day of overstaying can get you into trouble. A month of overstay absolutely will get you fucked if caught. Depending on where you try to exit from you could get a heavy fine and banned from Schengen for years. Your only hope is to pray the border official will not bother to look at your passport and check your status.

There are no border officials when leaving the UK. The airline does swipe it though so they know when I leave. Fuck it's hard to find any info on grace periods to fuck off

Do you have some Schengen days remaining? Then just hop over to the mainland for a while. If you can't change your flight, you can arrange to fly a cheapo flight back to UK and transfer there to your flight home, no need to enter the UK in that case.

Bus tickets are almost always better than eurail. it will be slower often, but much cheaper and more flexible. The studentagency flexitickets are cheap as balls and fantastic as hell.
