I have traveled to almost every area/ state in Mexico. What non-magical places are worth visiting? Have you ever done a wine tour in Baja, or what's it like in general? Que pedo con las mexicanas?
>>
>>1269482
>wine tour in Baja
I hear those are pretty cool but filled with old american couples. I've done the Queretari wine and cheese tour, and I'd recommend that if you're in Mexico City and up for a comfy drive there.

>non-magical places worth visiting
sayulita, zipolite, mina de naica (chihuahua), hiking in Nuevo Leon, obviously cenotes in Quintana Roo and Yucatan

>a México general
If you don't mind, I'll post here everyday until I actually go there.

I'll be there in 9 days, I'm going to CDMX and Guanajuato over the course of 2 weeks.

I'm going to Mexico city next month and I'll be taking the subway/metro there. Just a few questions. What would be the best way to get to Paseo Reforma avenue? I'll need to get there, near Tres culturas plaza. Think the best route would be, starting from the airport station, to take line 5 then transfer to line 'B' to 'Garibaldi/Lagunilla' station, and walk from there. Not sure if I'm missing something. Is there a better way to get there?
Also, how's safety there? regarding getting your wallet and cellphone stolen. I've heard bad shit about that and of course I don't want that happening to me.
>>
>>1269518
Tlatelolco station is closer to Tres Culturas, but fairly far from Reforma if you're walking. Lagunilla is on Reforma, but you'll have to walk north for like 6 blocks to get to tres culturas. Use the subway, most buses (not the ones you'll see in major avenues like Reforma or Insurgentes) that run around that area are pretty shitty. We call them "micros".
Keep in mind that zone is somewhat poor, but you shouldn't have much problem unless you're wandering around late at night.
And just take the usual safety cautions you'd take at home; phone and wallet in your pockets, but it's best to keep them in your inside pocket if you're wearing a jacket.
>>
Would anybody be up to meeting up ? Gonna be in Mexico City early August and would like to meet up with some people.
>>
>>1269518
I wouldn't recommend being near Garibaldi or Lagunilla stations with luggage, that is one of the not safe places inside the city, and it is also dirty. Also, if it's raining, don't use the metro, it's going to be slow and crowded as fuck.

If you either gain in dollars or euros, just pay a taxi or use uber, it's not going to be expensive.
>>
>>1269518
Take uber. It's very cheap there. I couldn't imagine trying to get around on the metro for the first time with luggage, and there's a solid chance you'll end up sans wallet/cell phone at the end.
>>
>>1269537
>>1269540
>>1269556

Yeah, heard uber is cheap there. I wouldn't mind taking an uber to every place I want to visit, I can afford it. But I thought it would be a good idea to move around the city in public transportation during my stay, think I'll ditch that option considering the circumstances. I also heard there's a lot of pickpocketing on certain stations of the metro. So, guess it's better to avoid that.

Thanks for your advice/recommendations. Can't wait to visit Mexico City.

which spots should I visit? wanna see some ruins and see old mexican culture. also why am I striking out with mexican girls? I'm not ugly but i think it must be my formal school room Spanish that puts them off.
>>
>>1269569

Sure, you can try it. Just make sure you have nothing in your pockets and don't do it when you have luggage with you.

It's not exactly like other metros since you have to push and shove to be able to get on at lots of stops.
>>
>>1269689
Zacatecas is pretty far from everything. I don't even know what the hell do they even do there for fun. Only thing I know is that there are a shit ton of mines and ranches. You could takea bus to Mazatlan or to San luis potosi, dependiong on where you at.
If you want to visit ruins and meet up with other tourists, then go south to Quintana Roo.

Carlos slim is Lebanese
Besides, caste system kept things that way for 300 years, the moment Mexico became independent it had a mulatto president and the first Native American president in the planet, but the aristocracy and their descendants (all ethnic Spaniards) were still the wealthiest and most educated people. The indigenous people in Mexico was poor due to the 300 years of semi-slavery they suffered, the country went on to have perpetual wars for 100 years straight, so poor people kept poor and middle class mestizos became poor. Porfiro Díaz was also a mestizo and he and his friends pretty much held all the wealth in the country for 30 years. Revolution happened and poor people kept being poor, while European immigrants arrived as upper middle class even when they where poor back in Europe. Inequality has been a problem than never went away and Native Americans were always the most affected because of the caste system and the general poverty of the country throughout history.

A lot of mestizos and Native Americans are rich either way. But yeah, let's go with the oversimplifications instead.

I will be going to Misantla,Veracruz this December for two and a half weeks to visit family. I'll probably make some stops at Puebla and Xalapa before getting to Misantla.

Any recommendations for things/places to do not do in these cities. I might stay with cousins in Puebla and Xalapa , but I'm not sure. Are the hostels in these cities( puebla and xalapa) safe? What about taxis, are they safe ?

WiIll also stay an additional week in Cancun with family. Same questions about Cancun as above.

How does the average college student in Mexico City dress on a typical day?
>>
>>1270695
There's a shitton of Americans in the Cancun/Playa del Carmen zone. There are other alternatives to teaching English or tourism, although you gotta understand that the whole state of Q. Roo's economy is based on tourism. Real estate, entertainment and customer support with traveling agencies have many expats working there.

>>1270708

Just like your typical American college student. Law students like to show off and dress in suit and tie for class.
>>
>>1270696
I don't know Veracruz very well, but you should be fine in hostels. Puebla is pretty boring for me, there are some nice areas and some shady ones as well, so try to stay in downtown. In Cancun, don't bother trying to explore the city any more than the touristic areas and the beaches, which are some of the most beautiful in the world.

Daily reminder Toluca was good looking before mid 80´s. Imo still decent.

The thing is Toluca never was a magnet to international tourists so don´t be that sissy tourist "they give me ugly looks :(".

The principal reason people liked it was their comfiness. But since 80´s, contamination and massive inmigration along corrupt goverment, bad urban planning and insecurity has made Toluca looks bad.

Still better that Veracruz, Veracruz IMO

Guadalajara is pretty cool for traveling with friends. After all, it's the birthplace of mariachi and charros and a lot of traditional Mexican food, and the town of Tequila is pretty close by, where you should take the tours to the distilleries.
I'd say it is on a par with Mexico City for fun. Plus the state of Jalisco is comfy to drive through.

>muh beards
Probably a bad habit they picked up from America to be honest. After Game of Thrones became popular geeks like to imagine themselves as manly just because they could grew a neckbeard.

This trend was probably amplified in Mexico, because Amerindians are typically hairless, growing a beard demonstrates European ancestry which appeals to Latinos for obvious reasons.

Don't be a bum, go clean shaven. Old fashioned is always best, I usually wear a 1950s styled suit to be honest.

I live in Juarez. No, the downtown won't kill you during daytime. There's even a place to walk around there, try checking out the Revolution museum too if you'd like.

At night it's a bit sketchy but not dangerous with capital letters. There's not much to do at downtown besides the Juarez street (which leads to El Paso anyways) at night.

The only place you should actively avoid of the city is the far south neighborhoods. Sketchy and ugly as all fuck, nothing to see, and the people that have migrated there are the worst from other states.

I don't really know how's the nightlife, I don't like the taste of alcohol and none of my friends are interested in that, so I haven't gotten myself.

However the nightlife scene in general is pretty strong. Try going to Gomez Morin street and browse through the various restaurants and nightclubs/bars in the area. You could also try Kentucky Bar in Juarez street, if just to say you went there.

You could also go to a casino

I just got back from a week in Mexico City and a week in Oaxaca, and yes, both places are safe. at least, in mexico city the neighborhoods of roma, condesa, polanco, coyoacan, san angel, and the centro historico felt safe.

The only time I felt vaguely threatened was when me and my female companion accidentally ended up at the back area of the Abastos market in Oaxaca, which was extremely dirty and sketchy...We were at this footbridge near the road back there, and were just starting to walk back toward the other side, when some guy starts creepily yelling out to us, "hey guys...hey...how are you?"

we didn't like his unsettling tone, and the area was awful, so we looked away and hurried ourselves out of there.

Mexican here, narrow your decision down to Colombia and Mexico City. Can't speak for Colombia but Mexico City is like any other major city in the world. It has its nice parts and its nasty parts.

Cheap cost of living, great infrastructure, easy women (paid or date), great food and lots to do. International airport gives you quick access to return home or go anywhere else if you need to.
>>
>>1281931
Yeah, that's what I am doing. It is between Bogotá and Mexico City, I think.
I can't really find anything that clearly gives the edge to one of them.
I think my major concern about Mexico City is the size and safety.
As you said stuff like the food is a plus and the history and culture of Mexico makes Mexico City really appealing for a Spanish student like me, a bit more than Bogotá at least.
>>
>>1281967
Size? My homie unless your going to be do cross city trips constantly why worry about the size? Uber, Taxis, buses, and other forms of transportation make it easy to get around even if it may take awhile during rush hour. Just plan ahead and it shouldn't be too bad.
As for safety, don't go into the poorer neighborhoods, and don't look like you have a lot of money. Even if you go full idiot tourist mode likely the worst that will happen is a mugging.
>>
>>1281971
>unless your going to be do cross city trips constantly why worry about the size?
Well yeah, that's true. I guess it stems from living in Copenhagen where everything is just a 20-30 minute bike ride away.

What would be some nice neighborhoods to live, do you know? If possible close to the UNAM.

What do Mexicans think of Quintana Roo? Is it a good place to live and raise a family? or is it just a tourist trap? I've met many mexicans here in the States, but never one from quintana roo.

I'm thinking of moving there from the US. I'm not rich, but I can probably buy a place in the capital of Chetumal, since it's less touristy and expensive than cancun and Playa Del carmen. I'm also thinking of starting a business. Maybe a pizza place or a Cake shop. Do cartels mess with small businesses? or are cartels even present in Quintana Roo? We never hear much negative news from there.

You can get 200mbps for like $80 a month. I get 60mbps for $60 in the states. Ping is fine unless the server is in Europe or something stupid.
Mexico city is great, Guadalajara is considered the tech capital and is quite a bit cheaper in terms of rent with still a lot of convenience (think Amazon One Day Shipping). Bonuses are that its 4 hours from puerto vallarta by bus which is a beautiful place to relax.
Weed you can find anywhere nigga. Ask your taxi he has some one him 9/10 times.

Thx. Appreciate it. I was 50/50 about Africa and Vietnam, but I am adding Mexico to the mix, so now there's a 33% chance that I'll go there.
>>
>>1283856
Mexico is best in my opinion. Africa? What? Vietnam is kinda iffy. I can only tell you the pros of Mexico.
Close to US if you need to go back.
Lots of people speak English.
Great food.
Good infrastructure compared to other 2nd world.
Great looking women.
Easy access to paid women that aren't fugly.
Component medical care that's free to all legal residents.
Cheap medical care for anything that isn't covered.
Easy language to learn.
Great places for vacations like beaches, mountains, jungles, ruins, and other stuff.
>>
>>1283868
I am not American, so it takes an equal amount of time to fly there as it does to anywhere else. Still very cheap though. Thanks for the input.
>>
>>1283873
Oh my fault. I assumed you were a fellow burger.
>>
>>1283874
I'll forgive you this time, but don't make a habit of it (jk)
I live all over the planet, including different places in Africa and Asia. Vietnam is perfectly fine. So are places like Namibia and Botswana. But Mexico has faster internet, and I really do wanna learn Spanish due to its international validity. Thx anon.
>>
>>1283880
That's pretty cool, may have to make a trip to 'nam then. Spanish will get you far in several countries and its easy to learn compared to some others.

Maybe I'll see you down in Mexico.

Zona Rosa has a big gay street, Calle amberes. I'm sure you could find some lesbians there.
>>
>>1285000
>big gay street
It's like the heart of the gay community. Or was. Kinda sketchy sometimes now.
>>
>>1285004
I wouldn't call it sketchy, I was partying there on Saturday night. It's packed with people. Cheap coke is available everywhere too.

I'm going to Guadalajara in about a month. Going with my family including my gf who looks extremely white (blue eyes blonde hair). Naturally I'm concerned for her safety even though I have tons of family there. Do I have anything to worry about. I haven't been there in over 10 years and completely forgot the atmosphere.
>>
>>1285016
Yes, she's gonna get pulled away by hordes of horny dudes and gang banged.

Nah dude, I was just there with some girls and although some of them got the eye rape, nothing untoward happened.
>>
>>1285007
Cool. Wish I had someone to show my around when I go down in a month or so. Do you live in DF or were you just visiting?
>>
>>1285028
I'm just visiting but I'll be here for a month

I had some safety questions about a trip I might make to the southern states. We'd be traveling in bus and mostly hitting tourist's spots but my worry is the actual travel there. How safe is it to travel across the states in a bus full of tourists? We'd be going from Jalisco to Veracruz to Cancun and back through Chiapas and Oaxaca. Anything helps thanks!
>>
Mexico is dangerous for americans now, as people are pretty pissed with Trump, don't come here unless you advertise that you dislike him or that you are Canadian
>>
>>1286390
I am Canadian, where do the heaviest Mexican qts live? I have no interest in skinny girls (anyone weighing less than 200lbs).

>>
>>1286390

I just got back from a month in Mexico. I don't know ANY spanish. I travelled from Mexico City to Cancun and I can honestly say it was one of the best trips i've ever had. If your white and semi attractive you will get tinder matches easy as hell. I felt like a hot girl would in the USA. I even stayed with a few girls while there, really great women. Very loving and sweet, they appreciate chivalry and are almost the polar opposite of american girls. I would never want to marry an American girl after going to Mexico. It had amazing food, culture and scenery. Cheap as fuck too. I had a great time my month there flew by.

Oaxaca is one of the safest places in Mexico. It's a beautiful city/state. (I'm not the original anon but I'm also mexican)
>>
>>1277999
You will find more exchange students in Mexico, specially in Mexico City. Mexico City is really big and diverse, there are zones really insecure and others very nice. The city has more museums than any other in Latin America. (I'm not the original anon but I'm also mexican)
>>
>>1279230
I live in Mexico City. It's an enourmous city, there are very safe neighborhoods and others that is better to avoid. Also in the public transport is easy to be robbed if you don't watch closely your things. If you come I highly recommend you to visit the historical center and Coyoacán.

Danish poster here, I am almost certain that I'll pick Mexico. The educational system seems to be closer to the European one, too.
I could imagine that traveling in Colombia is cool as fuck, but I think I would prefer to live in Mexico City rather than in Bogotá.

Would you happen to know what zones are the best to live in close-ish to the UNAM?

You should make your own way there, Mexico has a great intercity bus network and the buses are the nicest I've ever seen. Pretty cheap too, Acapulco to CDMX cost me 500 pesos. You'd be safe on one of those buses.

Not him but I've been living in Toluca for about a year, moved here from Chihuahua/MTY.

It's just ugly, there are no consistently good/affluent areas, hardly anything to do at all, and also you'll be hard pressed to find a 1 good looking person among 200 people you see in the street. There are also absolutely no good food places.

The weather is fucking awesome all year round though.

Mexicans dominate California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. Outside of those four states there are larger browner demographic groups for people to scapegoat, i.e. Puerto Ricans, Somalis, Cubans, or whatever.
>>
>>1283880
I hear botswana is expensive as fuck, and the name turns me off... reminds me of bot fly. Not even sure if it exists in that country. Only time Ive encountered that devil fly is in Belize. Which is by mexico, so mexico probably has it. So fuck mexico.
>>
>>1270697
if by dominate you mean are the second most obese demographic ( more than 40%), second highest poverty, second highest rate of murder, second highest illiteracy

then yes, possibly

That depends on your budget and preferences. I would suggest northwest Coyoacán (near Miguel Ángel de Quevedo Avenue and Jardín Centenario (park)), and zones near Insurgentes Sur Avenue (the part that it's north of CU (Ciudad Universitaria)). If you want something cheaper, Copilco or Pedregal de Santo Domingo.

Drive to the border and park you car. Cross on foot and take a taxi to the airport. Fly to nearly anywhere in Mexico for ~200 USD roundtrip max.

Most importantly, keep your fucking mouth shut about anything you do. Don't spit any words to the feds no matter how much they beat you or how many years you are thrown in jail. Your life and your family's life depends on it. It doesn't matter if your family's in europe or america. They will all be killed within a week if you ever say anything. You give your life to these powerful men, and there is no escape. It's like joining ISIS. Just a heads up man.

For god sake, you must be a delusional who thinks AMLO should be president, as someone who has worked in several touristic places, this its not even a norm, as long you are not from México DF you are welcomed as anyother placer.
Not joking on the chilango part, have went eating to several places with signs saying - We dont serve chilangos " // very bad references from them.
