I'm planning a backpacking trip to India in September/October

People often say that Sri Lanka is more similar to SEA than to India, or if not, then it's an interesting mix of the two regions (because of their fanatical Buddhism, mainly)
I've never been to India so I won't comment, but I liked Lanka.

We have a ton of Sri Lankan people in Nyc. All I got is love the food.

Wife is the daughter of Lankan immigrants and she's lived there for about half a year collectively. Colombo is apparently nice and they're pretty tourist friendly but outside of it is pretty janky.

I didn't notice anything of interest in Colombo, but it is a good place to find great food. Restaurants can be hard to find elsewhere.

Everyone speaks English in Colombo
Its also the cleanest and most developed city in south asia (though SEA blows it away, and in recent times thereve been some garbage troubles or something ive heard)
