I'm going to be taking a week off work in a couple months or so to do some traveling within the continental US. After doing some searches based off of some of my general interests, I've managed to narrow down my choices to either Las Vegas or Seattle.

I thought about Las Vegas because I tend to imagine it as a city unstuck in time, where you have these casinos whose best days were decades in the past and now exist in the present in this sort of faded glory. I like to gamble a bit and would like to see if the food/drink/atmosphere live up to the city's reputation. Otherwise it's physically close to some natural sights like the Grand Canyon (4 hours drive) and of course the desert, which would be interesting to see since I've never been to one before.

Seattle seems to be a lot nicer in general, but I don't have any interests to pursue in the city specifically apart from general sites (the Space Needle, I don't know what else). However it is an easy drive to either Portland to the south or Vancouver to the north. Portland has some hipster cred to it and I have only heard positive things about Vancouver so those would be nice diversions. Plus in Washington state there are the redwood forests and the Pacific Ocean, which I've been meaning to see.

I was hoping someone that had been to one or both places might have some more feedback on what each city has to offer. I'm actually leaning more toward Seattle if only for the additional travel opportunities, so any info on Portland or Vancouver would also be appreciated.

Also just to get this out of the way, I looked up what it would cost to get blown in an authorized Nevada brothel (legal) versus a Canadian escort (semi-legal) and Nevada cost more than twice as much, so that's another point in Seattle's favor.

desu you'll burn out on vegas if you stay more than 4 days. The strip in vegas is literally a weekend thing. I live in arizona and been to vegas a few times, you burn out and "everything is just a few hours away" is a tourist/marketing trap.

>grand canyon is JUST 4 hours away
Yeah and you are as well as 4 hours away from anything in the desert. You get bored of it after 1 hour and arizona has more to offer like flagstaff, sedona, nothing az, etc

>I thought about Las Vegas because I tend to imagine it as a city unstuck in time, where you have these casinos whose best days were decades in the past and now exist in the present in this sort of faded glory.

That's the old strip, and you can see everything in a day. If you don't drink or gamble enjoy being depressed after the 2nd day.

Went to seattle a few months back and had more fun things to do than I ever could think of in vegas. Also Vegas is hot as shit until October so hope you like 100+

No idea why you would want to pay to get crabs. If you can't get laid in Seattle, you are doing something incredibly wrong.

Let's break it down

Las Vegas

>I thought about Las Vegas because I tend to imagine it as a city unstuck in time, where you have these casinos whose best days were decades in the past and now exist in the present in this sort of faded glory.
Las Vegas is probably the only gambling town that isn't fading. If you want that, go to Atlantic City (Just kidding, don't go to Atlantic City)

>would like to see if the food/drink/atmosphere live up to the city's reputation.
Most expensive food I've ever seen. Even a shit place is $30 plates. Just eat fast food. Party life is good, everybody is there to have a good time. Atmosphere is very Vegas, there's definitely a spirit there, as well as plenty of feat and loathing.

>Otherwise it's physically close to some natural sights like the Grand Canyon (4 hours drive) and of course the desert, which would be interesting to see since I've never been to one before.
Absolutely. South west is incredible. Utah has some amazing areas to see as well, and you should stretch it to Western Colorado.

>you'll burn out on vegas if you stay more than 4 days
This is probably true

On to Seattle

>I don't have any interests to pursue in the city specifically apart from general sites (the Space Needle, I don't know what else)
I found the city was actually pretty normal, friendly people though

>Portland has some hipster cred
I find Portlandia to be painfully accurate, although they don't show the droves of heroin zombies. No place like it though, is an awesome place for travel.

>I have only heard positive things about Vancouver
I haven't been there but I hear the same things

>I'm actually leaning more toward Seattle if only for the additional travel opportunities
Definitely make it down to Red Woods, San Fran, and Big Sur if at all possible.

Let me know which direction this post has pushed your decision in, and have fun!

Good point, I probably wouldn't be able to make a full week of it. Driving that far isn't so much of an issue since I'm used to it (I live far from family but visit often) but going for hours in the desert in August is probably going to wear thin quickly.

>>1266848
Easy answer is that I have no game. But in any case I don't plan on choosing the place I go to specifically on the escort situation, it's just sort of neat to think about.

>>1266853
By "fading" I mostly meant that Las Vegas is a far cry from what it used to be like in the 70s (as depicted in Fear and Loathing, or Casino). Anyway regarding your other points I would probably be dividing my time 70-30 between the city and the outdoors so mostly it would be weighted by what Las Vegas itself has to offer. I'm interested in seeing one or two natural places but I wouldn't be able to muster the enthusiasm past that.

So basically I'm probably going to go with Seattle as the destination for this trip. As stated previously, I'd be interested in checking out Portland and Vancouver as well since I'll be in the area. Is there a recommended spread of days that would be best to cover each area optimally (for example, 3 days in Seattle, 2 in Portland and 2 in Vancouver)?
>>
>>1266863
Do keep in mind that Vancouver and Portland are in opposite directions of each other. I visited Seattle last year and realized it made more sense for me to just visit one (I chose Vancouver).
>>
>>1266840
I can't imagine how someone's interests could possibly lead them to those two cities. You seem to be operating on some romanticized idea of Vegas. You'll be sick of it in 48 hours. Go to Seattle.

Right, I think if I had to choose I would probably choose Vancouver over Portland. Like I said before though, I do a lot of driving anyway so I probably wouldn't mind the logistics of it, but in terms of things to do I would probably end up getting spread thin.

>>1267053
You pretty much nailed it on the head, considering my image of the city is pulled together mainly from movies and those old "what happens in Vegas" commercials.

>3 days in Seattle, 2 in Portland and 2 in Vancouver
Sounds good anon. I'd still suggest you stretch your trip a bit more south into California, but in general I agree, if we're talking a week, northwest over vegas.
>>
I'm a Vegas local. It's hot as shit here while at Seattle it's filled with commies and hipster SJW cunts so pick your poison.

If you have the money there's lots to do in Vegas and there are cheap as fuck places you just gotta look. As a UNLV student, Chinatown is a godsend.

Thanks, I might look into California a bit since there's still plenty of time before the trip is slated to occur.

>>1267211
I'm not super stingy, but thinking about it more carefully I would probably put the money I had set aside for gambling to better use in Seattle/Vancouver. In this sense Las Vegas would almost literally be a crap shoot.
>>
It is way too hot in Las Vegas right now, although if you don't care about that it can work to your advantage in getting lower airfare and hotels.
I would recommend finding a standup show or boxing match or some kind of entertainment you enjoy lined up for the dates you want before you book. I am not into adult Disneyland (the Strip), but I love Fremont and the traditional Vegas style. I always had fun in Vegas. But when I lived there briefly though not so much! Fun as hell to visit, miserable to reside.

Seattle is cool for it's nature, mountains, whale watching, a rainforest 3 hours away, a desert 3 hours the other way. Amazing produce but I would just say above average food. Portland is a good 3 hour drive from Seattle, and Vancouver is a little more, keep that in mind.

If you're gonna head to seattle/vancouver might I suggest you take in some kick ass nature. If you have a vehicle i'd tell ya to either drive around the olympic peninsula or do the interior loop on your way to vancouver. Go down the 410 from seattle, past mount rainier, end up at the spooky old hanford nuclear site, drive up to either leavenworth for some wacky bavarian style architecture or the grand coulee dam, hang around the columbia valley, then aim for route 20 and Ross lake. Stop at Diablo lake, Ross Lake and Mount Baker and then if you got time try and drive to Whidbey island/anacortes. If you're pretty quick with your stops you can do this loop in a very long day or 2 days. After Anacortes you're only a half hour from the border.

If you're gonna visit the north west it's gotta be for the nature. Vancouver and Seattle are fairly typical as far as city experiences go. Portland is definetely it's own weird thing though.
