Is it safe to go to? I would really like to go one day.
>>
>>1266820
The better question would be is it worth it and the answer is no.
>>
>>1266820
It depends where you go. The safest areas are Mexico City, the Bajío region, and the Yucatan peninsula.

I'm going to Cancun at the end of August to an all inclusive resort. I'm paranoid something will go wrong on the trip from the airport to the resort.
>>
>>1266874
Bro I've been in Mexico from Reynosa to Yucatan, Puerto Vallarta to Cancun, Guadalajara etc. No one is going to hold you up on the way from the airport holy shit. Do people get fucked up in Mexico? Absolutely, people who deal drugs and are activity part of the cartel, not tourists. The most you'll experience (if your luck is shit) is a mugging which can happen anywhere and even that is super unlikely unless your idea of a vacation is wandering in the slums.
>>
Mexico is a very dangerous place to travel, especially between airports and resorts. fake taxi drivers and transfer people pick you up and will deliver you into the hands of the cartels. If you are young and female, they will force you into prostitution and you will find yourself being screwed by all sorts of ugly strangers,. Probably some with diseases. If you are male or ugly they will tie you up and rob you, sometimes rape you, and cut you up one piece at a time. You will be found with your head separate from your body and your testicles stuffed in your mouth.
Anyways, have a good time on your trip.

Have spent some time in Mexico and I never had some problems with transport or with people on the streets.

At the airport the taxi companies do have own stands where you go and get your number + a business card which shows the car colour or the name including the exit you have to take (for example in Mexico City they have "white city cab" or "yellow taxi"). In Puebla or Monterry there is an assistant in a vest who guides you to the cab.

About bus travels from city to city. It is basically Greyhound in a nutshell. Buy your ticket for a day- and time slot. Go to the gate, put the large bag in the storage and take your small bag with passport and stuff with you. Some bus drivers give you a number for the bad to collect later, some mini buses let the passanger handle it. On longer drives they stop on gas-station line stops where dogs seem to have no owners and old latinas sell there icon cards or wtv. But it is good for a coffee or/and some snacks.

To sum in up, never encountered some drive-by-shooter-hombres.

And here is a vid of hundreds of mexicans dancing naked on the streets: https://youtu.be/d3m5oWdj_DA

Hey OP,

I'm in Mexico for the first time right now. Just landed in CDMX last night.

So far, so good. I really like the city a lot. As an Amerifag, I wish I'd come here before.

Obviously I haven't dipped my toes in too deep, but I'll keep you posted as my trip moves along. I'm here for a month and then flying onward to Africa.

So far, I've felt safer than I have in other big cities in Latin America. The central part of Mexico City doesn't feel nearly as dodgy as the touristic district of Bogota - La Candelaria - or Quito's Mariscal and Colonial Center. CDMX doesn't even compare to shit-holes like Managua or Guayaquil, either.

But I'm also cautious about where I go. In Latin America, one of the first questions I always ask reception is if there are any nearby neighborhoods to avoid during the day or after nightfall.

Don't let /trv/ scare you off. For some people, people here are more than happy to spout the joys of countries like Colombia and Brazil, but will shit on Mexico the second it's mentioned in a thread.

Please check the dates on the articles you link.

That story is 10 years old and out of date in regards to the current situation in Mexico. And besides, driving around in a RV in a "sperr of the moment" trip is highly ill-advised when going to Mexico. Especially to remote beaches.....like that couple decided to do.

Anywhere that tourists are going is gonna be safe. I assume here that people are gonna stick to Condesa/Roma/Zona Rosa and Centro Historico. Obviously going out in the slums is a bad idea but when I was in the areas I mentioned I felt as safe as I do in the city in America.

Hope the rainy season is not much of a hassle.
>>
>>1267718

I just got back to my hostel and am pretty thoroughly soaked.

The rain is a bit of a pain, but I have to do writing work for an hour or two every day. Gives me an excuse to stay in and get shit done without feeling guilty.

I've been having a great time so far, though.
>>
>>1266820

Just got back from Mexico City and stayed in the La Reforma area.

It's an incredible city, and there is far more danger in the downtowns of most large, American cities. Portland feels more sketch, but maybe that's because leftists are pondscum.

As others have said, the rain has started and will continue most of the month, which sucks.

Now if you're going to Acapulco or the US/Mexico border where the druglords congregate, you'll find trouble.

Book your flight, and definitely try street foods, but avoid peeled fruit unless it's fresh or you're washing it yourself.

Any recommendations on where to go after CDMX?

I'm staying here until Saturday and then heading to Puebla for a couple nights. I was thinking about going to Veracruz after, but I've heard mixed reviews of the capital. If not Veracruz, maybe Oaxaca.

Fucking wish I'd come to Mexico before. Having a blast, and I'm only a couple days in (I say that as I sit in the hostel common area waiting for the rain to let up).

Trying to do the Peace Corps once I graduate university. Definitely going to request a Latin American country, and if that doesn't work, I might head down here independently and teach English part-time with my freelance writing shit providing the bulk of my income.

Was in mexico august last year. Best place I have ever been. Went to Tijuana, Mexico City, Merida and Cancun. Cancun was not great but the others were amazing, Felt safe except for one time walking through a bad neighbourhood at night in Mexico City after watching Lucha Libre wrestling. There are an amazing amount of ancient ruins to see.
>>
>>1268416
>felt safe in tijuana
>didn't felt safe in Mexico City
wew

And don't get me wrong, the part of town where the Lucha Libre happens is very sketchy, so it is no surprise, but Tijuana is literally the third most dangerous city in Mexico, several orders of magnitude more dangerous than the worst parts in Mexico City, lel.
>>
>>1268157
>Don't much about Guadalajara
What? Its a pretty chill place to go. Has ruins nearbt, great eats, decent nightlife. If you wanna smash there are plenty of model tier woman available for $1200 peso ~70usd.

Yeah I've heard women from guadalajara are top tier only followed by women's from sinaloa. Where do I find the women? I don't wanna roam in sketchy parts at night
>>
>>1268482
They literally line certain streets down town you can Google it. Otherwise strip clubs are a good bet and only sketchy if your dumb about things. Otherwise I like to order escorts that are usually 8/10+ to my hotel or 12hr motel like pizza.

You planning on going anytime soon? Wouldn't mind hanging out.
>>
>>1268482
IMO they're way better than Sinaloa women. Keep in mind Mexicans love huge, oversized asses and tits, and like them much thicker than gringos do.

I found the women in Guadalajara to be marginally better than elsewhere in Mexico, but still nowhere even approaching the level of places like Colombia or Brazil. I had the best results in Mexico City overall, because the women were just easier there.

Mexican here. Basically, what other anons have said is true, avoid sketchy regions or neighbourhoods, don't try to buy or mess around with drugs unless you know who you're asking or buying from, ask people in the street if they know any good street food stands but make sure you ask a few of them before making a decission because I know people who would recommend the shittiest places that would give you diarrhea to gringos just to fuck with them, be careful when picking up girls in bars and other populated places because you might stumple upon the type of girl that likes going to bars just to fuck with her bf and then he gets there and finds you wooing her so now you have to get into a fight and you both get thrown out of the bar in the end, avoid Michoacan and Sinaloa altogether, don't go to "pueblitos" before asking locals beforehand, some are ridden with cartel members and even controlled entirely by them to the point where they know who goes in and who leaves town and when.
>>

The whores that you can get in Tijuana (hong kong club) are dramatically better looking than anything you will find in GDL, there are legitimate 10/10s available there. I've heard monterrey is better than GDL for whores but not sure if it approaches Tijuana level.
>>
>>1268661
Hey man I'm sure you can find some nice girls in Tijuana but I seriously doubt they can match Guadalajara. Nonetheless I've never been so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Monterrey is also pretty good but lately there have been a lot of robberies on highways and other things.

Just last night narcos and cops got into a huge firefight in Mazatlan. 19 narcos dead and 5 cops wounded. Narcos were in the process of kidnapping a rival when cops arrived.

While in Mex don't have anything showing, like watches, bracelets, cell phone in your shirt pocket. Stuff your money in your underwear, etc. It's like 70% of the population are fucking thieves.
>>
>>1267728
Go to Oaxaca, much nicer and safer than Mexico City. Take a plane, fucking bus is like 8 hrs and pure torture, nothing to see.
>>
>>1267728
Just so you know, every single Mexican who doesn't live in the City hates it. Think of New York, or London, or any big city, really.
>>
>>1268714
>Take a plane, fucking bus is like 8 hrs and pure torture, nothing to see.

I loved it actually, just get the super luxury class and download some movies beforehand (their tv screens are all in Spanish). Not much of a cost savings but I find it less hassle to do bus vs. plane.

>>1268694
>I seriously doubt they can match Guadalajara.

For regular girls definitely, for hookers I see a huge difference at the top end. I picked a top-end girl from one of the agencies there, she was great and only 19, but not as good looking as the girls in TJ where I am now. Girls come here from all over the country because they can make much more.

Updating:

Been in CDMX for a week and going to Puebla tomorrow afternoon.

I've done about 10 miles of walking per day and so far had no problems with crime or safety. People are way friendlier than I was expecting and it's pretty easy to meet locals. Met a few girls from Tinder and slept with one twice.

I really don't know what's up with /trv/ being so fanatically anti-Mexico. Every traveler I've met so far has had a great time here.
>>
>>1269200
are you renting a room at a hotel, or how do you manage to sleep with girl if you are staying at a shared-room hostel?

also I'm planning to spend a week on CDMX+Puebla+pyramids, do you think that's too rushed? I didn't want to spend more time than needed in CDMX, because the rest will be spent in yucatan
>>
>>1269233

Pyramids is a day trip. In Puebla now and it's not that exciting - give it a day or two, max.

The girl I've seen a handful of times has her own place, so I just went back with her.
>>
>>1268879
yeah. I was there last year and a lot of locals live in a kind of shanty town of rickety shacks, some made out of pallets etc. They work in the little resort thingys along the beach for shit wages. And there are a bunch of lame ass tourists there now paying it up for cheap slurry.
>>
>>1269200
How is /trv/ anti-mexico? Everyone seems to love CDMX when it comes up here.

Protip: Go to Oaxaca, and then on to Zipolite/Mazunte. None of them are great for the girls (Tinder is useless in all three) but they're really awesome places.

Actually, better yet, find a girlfriend and bring her along.

>>1269233
I'd say just do a week in CDMX and do pyramids as a day trip. Puebla isn't really a day trip and a week is a little much to be going to both since there's SO much to see in CDMX.

I say go to the Yucatan first before CDMX though, it's insanely lame and touristy compared to CDMX.

>>

Eh, it really depends on what part of town you're staying and who you're staying with. I wouldn't say you'll die but Airbnb isn't well-renowed for keeping their hosts and travelers safe. I'd recommend a hotel instead.

If you're wondering if the city is gonna kill you, though, trust me it's not. Just avoid sketchy places and the southernmost part of the city in general (there's nothing of interest there so you should have no problem). There is violence but mostly it's pre-Drug War levels of bad (meaning not much).
