Going to Thailand this year. Got a ticket for less than $500. Any tips? Somebody told me Bangkok is separated into 4 districts, Black, Red, Blue, whatever. Didn't see anything about that online. What kinda shots do I need and shit? Should I drink the water? etc.
>>
What are you going for
>>

you should do some basic research before coming here, we can't possibly tell you everything and you haven't given us much to work with.

maybe first decide which regions you want to see (south, bangkok area, north/chiang rai etc)

The simplest ittinery for partying is south region-bangkok-pattaya-chiang mai-pai

the tap water is NOT drinkable
don't follow the lead of the idiots who walk around half naked on drugs in the more conserative areas, save it for the party islands.
haggling is an artform in thailand and almost everyone will try to rip you off, it's just how they are. get used to saying no, walking away, arguing for a lower price

the busses are a good way to get around, public busses are the cheapest but you might save money with a private bus that picky you up from the hotel because many terminals are too far out of town (god knows why)

7-11 is the best friend of the farang
sticky rice, bananas, noodle soup are your friends

tollerance to drugs varies widely across the country, most people go to a "happy bar" where drug laced food and drugs are sold; these places pay bribes so it's much safer than buying on the street
alcohol is relatively expensive in thailand

I don't have a lot of money so I'm gonna visit friends and enjoy the nature/culture. If I wanted to live luxuriously I'd go to Vegas or something. I wanna stay out of big cities and so the geography and history. I'm also a big gastrotourist so I wanna try all the traditional or unique food.

This was actually a really helpful response so thank you. People keep asking if I'm gonna go for prostitues. I'm really not interested, Like I said to 1264545, if I wanted a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas experience I would going to LV lol. I am a worthless bi-sexual faggot tho, so I totally wanna see a well known ladyboy cabaret show. They look lit af.

those are good to go to even if you aren't into ladyboys

its actually 5 districts. However you dont want to go to the "green" district if you know what i mean!

I was in Thailand a few months ago.
So before I start a traveling I never really understood that different things cost different amounts in different places.

Bananas sure, but I assumed stuff produced by corporations would be pretty much the same price everywhere you went, and if the locals couldn't afford it because of the price that's just how things worked. My ignorance probably comes from the fact that I don't shop at all and I'm extremely frugal, I don't actually own any clothes that I've ever purchased myself they're all presents, free shirts, promotional goods, hand me downs, or junk abandoned by past roommates.

I think a PS4 is about the same price everywhere but it Bangkok you can buy some really amazing Real Travler backpacks for about 70% of what I'd pay at home in the states. If you go be sure to stop by King Power, or whatever their mega mall is called.
>>
Not OP, but I don't
>>
>>1264656
The south is very heavily touristed so I didn't visit it myself , I only got as far down as bangkok and some of it's peripheral neibourhoods

the kathoey cabaret shows are great fun, and vary in clenliness

you will find that everyone speaks reasonable english, most travelers only learn a few words out of politeness

The bus network is the preferred means of travel for those on a budget, though flights are cheap between cities as well which is a consideration if you are heading north

Prices in thailand are very low, but if you budget low it becomes therefore easy to blow out
one can concievably get by on 150B/day if you go nowhere,do nothing, and stay in a dorm
I would sugest maybe 800/day with no western food.

Food in thailand is often over-sweetened, sugar is a table condiment and is added to everything from bread to soup.
Best foods: 10B sugar biscuits at 7-11, noodle soup, hot soya milk with tapioca, curry rice, fruit (esp bananas) 20B+ for a bunch

"face" is very important to thais, we would call it arrogance but it's a more complex social construct.
Bottom line is that thais believe they have superiority in most domestic matters, and can be very easy to offend.
Many thais will try to take advantage of you, sometimes shamelessly. This usually means you pay a higher price, and often they will be reluctant to sell you low cost services; for instance telling you there are no regular price busses when you go to buy a tiket

Strong caution about motorcycles, if you don't know how to ride one at home you won't gain this ability magically. The rental bikes are cheap and unsioted to any rough conditions, half the farangs here are injured as a result, I'm looking at two in the hostel over my cup of coffee.

People fish everywhere, off bridges, the points etc.
For more serious fishing you could probably charter a boat in the south, but just ask the local guy carrying a rod or working in a shop selling bait

So, expats in Thailand who post here:

How are things going now that the thing in OP Pic Related is king? I know there was some apprehension about him, and some alarmist predictions, but I have not heard much about it from friends in Thailand (who, as Thai people, may not be saying much about it even if they feel strongly.)

>prostitutes
>ladyboys

Am I the only guy who thinks that:

A) Most Thai women are distinctly unattractive
B) Most Thai ladyboys are extremely unattractive

I just don't get the appeal. I went to Soi Cowboy with a couple of guys from my hostel. I had a girlfriend at the time and just wanted to see the place, while they were both interested in maybe paying a bit of money for some action.

With a few scattered exceptions, I thought most of the Thai hookers - as well as ordinary women on the street, day to day - had androgynous facial features and flat, unexceptional bodies.
>>
>>1265155
I wasn't talking about having sex with them but the shows are good family fun
Also
>A) Most Thai women are distinctly unattractive
they are and yeah the bodies are horrible
>B) Most Thai ladyboys are extremely unattractive
yeah most but some are very cute and more than Thai girls they fit into western beauty standards but if you are into trannies like i am then Latin america is way better the bodies are far better
>>
>>1265126
Bump out of curiosity on this point.
>>
>>1265173
>but if you are into trannies like i am then Latin america is way better the bodies are far better
Where would these places be?
>>
>>1265625

Brazil particularly Rio and Sao paulo also Manaus for real girls.

Colombia has Bogota, Medellin, and Cali (this one is a violent shit hole i advice keeping away from cali)

Lima,Peru has trannies far better than they have any right to be they tend to have cute faces and sexy bodies unlike the women who have the cute faces but horrible bodies.

Panama has Colombian and Venezuelan transgals so it's also good

Buenos Aires Argentina is great too the majority of street walkers are trans so you can be very picky
>>
>>1265679
I'm contemplating a winter vacation or next summer trip to South America and any of those places I would really like more details so I can learn as much as possible from first hand accounts.

I don't mean to trouble you for a novel, but anything you can give me about those places would be greatly appreciated.
Were these places just paying or did you pull well on your own?
Any favorite places in particular you thought were the best?
If I tindered in those cities from home, would that be a look into what's available or is there a different source I should check out?

Spent the most time in Rio de Janeiro and i'll answer about that
>Were these places just paying or did you pull well on your own?
It's mostly paying in all of them(counties) due to the fact that the majority of trans are prostitutes but keep in mind the cost is extremely low and I have gotten quite a few of the tgirls addicted to the pipe and they fucking message me constantly lol

Before going to Brazil i never sent dick pics, possible to not pay but you need to speak Portuguese mine at the time was extremely basic
you'll want to go after the hairdressers and other non prostitutes message them on dating site or apps/facebook
you can find them on Tinder,Grinder or POF

Rio is an interesting city I did go on some dates with one tgirl and seems pretty normal to the locals no one seemed to think it was weird
I went to clothing stores and people were like "you can sit her and wait for your girlfriend" or "you can go into the changing room with her if you need to"

>If I tindered...?
Tinder maybe a month before your trip is the best option but you can do ti early if you want it's a good option and South america has actual hot girls and trans on tinder unlike the United states. I had over 50 matches over the month. Profiles contain"sou travesti" "transexuais" "não uma mulher"

You can find tgirls on tinder easy but they almost never speak english either plus still many will be working gals but if it's not in their profile then just ask them out, the one i went out with was a prostitute but we still had fun together and the sex was great.

LEARN PORTUGUESE if you want to pull and you'll have to go to parties and shit too. Tgirls are just in the streets during the day too it can work.

Was there around Pride, had no luck there but you might. It was my second day so I was super nervous and just did not exude confidence still i noticed many guys and a few tgirls who seemed interested but I was just to nervous to speak so it didn't go well for me when I did.

Thanks a lot.

I read Portuguese is the language for Brazil, but I'm getting pretty interested in Colombia and maybe Peru too since it's so close so I'm probably going to start studying Spanish in my free time asap. Thinking Southern/Eastern South America for a slightly later trip.

I was a little surprised what you said about Lima, Peru. Do you have any interesting bits of information about that place? Any particular parts of town or stories?

nah not really was only in Lima for 2 days but the Trans scene is kind of big for a sleepy country like Peru
Miraflores is the nice part of town with really nice beachy miami-esuq looks to it but this area also has street walkers at night which you wouldn't expect for the rich part of town
Peru is very cheap for just about everything from accommodation and food to travel
English seems to be spoken a bit more probably due to tourism
Gotica is a normal straight club that some trans go to
Legendaris is a gay club that many trans go to
both in Lima

Some people might not be too impressed with Lima since it's kind of lame for a big city and most of it is old and not very pretty but it's the pride and joy of the Locals

On tinder the Knockouts(gorgeous) will almost always be trans or the rare Mixed girl. Trans girls still say they are trans in their profiles for the most part from what i can tell "soy travesti" etc

Colombia is a cool country i plan on going for a couple weeks before my big trip back to Brazil
Definitely need spanish here the street walking areas are not the safest areas but the internet is a gold mind for escorts and you can probably pull some of the camgirls as they usually don't escort/prostitute they make more than enough camming as long as you find one without a boyfriend you can go dancing and other shit with her etc
I'm in contact with a few Colombian camgirls atm who want me to stay at their place when i visit in the later half of the year.

if you are going for prostitutes in either country the price is very cheap, i'd probably buy some condoms at home if you are above average in size because local condoms in Latin america are kind of odd fitting from my experience but i am a big guy (this probably hold true for Thailand too )
>>
>>1265911
Learning spanish 1st is smart it's very easy to learn Portuguese after if you want too or vice-versa in my case.
Spanish is also quicker to learn as an English speaker honestly you can be fluent in less than a year (4-8months)

Alright mate, since no one actually answered your question yet, I'll have a crack

I haven't heard too much about coloured districts in Bangkok, but it is an incredibly fun city. The main thing to know is that the main european tourist area surrounds a street called 'Khao San Road', or Thanon Khao San, and this is where most of the backpackers hang around, and it's absolutely disgusting, but quite fun - and I would recommend you stay near, but not on it. Other places tourists visit are chinatown and basically anywhere in the old city.

In terms of shots, you will need hep a, hep b, adult dtp (diptheria, tetanus, and pertussis), as well as optionally typhoid. (don't trust my list - it's based off memory). Many tourists take preventative anti-malaria medication, but I personally didn't and had no issues. You also have the option to take a preventative rabies shot, but this is just as effective if taken shortly after rabies exposure, and it's quite expensive (I personally just chose not to get bitten by stray dogs). The most important thing to do is to get your hep shots a few weeks before you set off, because you'll need multiple shots for both of them, and they take a while to set in.

In theory, water in Bangkok is drinkable as it's all filtered through a modern water treatment plant, I chose not to risk it just in case, although many locals and expats do drink tapwater there. This is not true in any other part of the country, and not even homeless people drink tap water there. In saying that, a two litre bottle of water is normally 10 Baht (about 30 cents).

In terms of general tips and fun things to do. Get a proper Thai massage, I never truely appreciated massages until I had every muscle stretched in my body by a beefy Thai guy. Wat Pho, in bangkok is truely beautiful, and the grand palace is also excellent if you like architecture. Motorbike taxi is the best and funnest way to travel in bangkok.
>>
>>1266068
Fuck, I may as well say some stuff to avoid as well.
As another comenter mentioned, if you can't ride a motorcycle back home, you won't be able to suddenly ride one in SEA, and I saw an absolute comical amount of people fall off scooters in Thailand. Although if you're dead set on it, a great place to learn is 'Pai', in the far north, which is a very chill backpacker town.

O didn't trust the drugs in Thailand. I was honestly eager to try the famous mushroom shakes one bar was selling up until I saw three fellow backpackers vomiting their gut out in front of the bar, after getting a bad batch - or maybe they're just hard to keep down. It's also a very well known trick that a local will sell drugs to foregners, and then promptly report them to police, and the copper and the drug dealer will then split the bribe.

It's very tempting to wear shorts with big open pockets, but it's also very easy to get pickpocketed, especially while clubbing, so skinny jeans or pants with zips, while uncomfortable in the weather are your best bet.

Don't wear singlets and shorts in temples, it's very disrespectful.

Finally, more or less everybody will try to overcharge you because you look foreign. This means taxi drivers will refuse to turn on their meters, shopkeepers will quote you a higher price, and all those travel agencies which want you to book train tickets and hostels with them for 'discounted prices', will take their cut. You can try to haggle but my personal advice is just to accept that this will happen, and spit out a little more money, most of these people will only be making $100-200 a week.

>>
>>1266101
Pretty shure they will, but no sign of this yet. They have to grieve for one year.

And the army still is in authority. Even if not officially. I'm quite astonished that thailand is not that corrupt and infrastructure stands pretty well. Probably paid by tourism / tsunami help.

>I think a PS4 is about the same price everywhere
Thailand is a cheap place for electronics in Asia, I think they maybe don't have sales tax or import duties, something like that. They're definitely cheaper than the shitholes around them or the totalitarian countries like Vietnam where they put import taxes on everything including private mail (seriously, they'll tax a book if someone posts it to you).

Not that anon and haven't been back since he carked it but I bet they'll just pay lip service to him. The younger generation might come to revere him maybe but I'd expect the elders to just kind of do their 'duty'.

The portraits like >>1266494 will either be 'because it's expected' or because the palace or army put it there.

The army will enforce the worship of him to an extent, their authority is related to his approval of them, it what stops it from officially being a military junta instead of whatever you'd call the current state of affairs.
>>
>>1265052
it's certainly pricy compared to everything else in the country. One beer from a bar will cost as much as a decent meal.
>>
>>1267764
Dude, a bucket of Singapore Sling on Kaohsan rd is 40baht. Yes, that's a meal but it's also $1. It's super cheap.

And cocktails often cost as much as cheap meals, that's not unusual anywhere.
