Have you ever had to stay overnight at an airport?
>>
Many times
>>
>>1264084
At least a few times. More often I've dealt with six or seven-hour nighttime layovers, which sometimes seem too short to bother with an overpriced airport hotel/dayroom situation.

But I'm old and not as budget conscious as I once was, so I will usually opt to spend nine or ten hour nighttime layovers in an airport hotel rather than trying to crash out on a bench or floor at a boarding gate nowadays, unless it's not feasible to do so (being a transit passenger in a country for which I don't have a visa, if no airside hotels are available, is the most obvious example of this).

sleepinginairports.net should be in the sticky if it isn't already.
>>
Did it once and missed my fucking flight lol. I know a few people that do it and recommend it though. Just wear your most comfortable clothes and make a pillow with more clothes. It's unlikely that your things will get stolen because there are cameras and airport security everywhere.

thanks for this, senpai

I second this. An amazing website, can't believe I've never seen it before.
>>
>>1264089
My god, that is the best website I've seen in a long time. Thanks a lot.
>>
>>1264084
Fucking yes.
The worst airport I've ever been to coincidentally turned out to be the one I spent the most time at. Gracias Mexico City.
>>
one time i was trying to get out of california as quickly as possible for reasons i kinda don't want to get into.

I was dropped off at a shady place in the early afternoon, and got a taxi to the airport arriving at like 5pm. The earliest flight back was 5pm the next day, so I just wandered around the airport for a full day, smoking leftover cigarettes, trying but failing to seduce a 45 year old asian on tinder at 5 in the morning, and shitposting. It wasn't all that bad. listened to the beatles all the way trhough and some krautrock, drank some green tea. Fairly comfy experience.
>>
>>1264389
Well, I don't think that is a coincidence. If an airport sucks, the chance is higher you're going to have flight delays or problems like that.
>>
>>1264456
Everyone who listens to krautrock is a great person. No matter what you did, I can't possibly imagine being your fault for wanting to get out of the state.
>>
had a flight out of houston hobby on christmas day about 15 years ago. i could only find a shuttle to take me there christmas eve. by 9 pm the 24th i had the whole fucking place all to myself.
>>
I had to spend a night in Lisbon at the beginning of my south america backpacking trip. It wasnt as uncomfortable as I thought, there were a lot of people sleeping too so the airport was very quiet and silent. All the lights are still turned on for the night so it may be difficult to sleep if you're on of those people who just sleep in total darkness, and if you arrive late al the nicest benches/spot are already taken so you will have to adapt.

If you find a nice spot, the airport has free wifi and you're not freezing because of the a/c, then it could be a fairly comfy experience.

amazing website, thanks for sharing!

>flying home, SEA to PHL
>have connecting flight in DFW
>flight from SEA gets delayed by a couple of hours because of an airshow or something retarded
>miss connecting flight
>next flight is 6 AM the next morning, I arrived at DFW at 8 PM
>American Airlines refuses to compensate me in any way because "it's not their fault"
fuck American, I'm never flying with them again
>>
When I was 16 I was studying solo in Paris and decided I would spend a weekend in London. I couldn't find a hostel/hotel/motel that would take a minor so I figured sleeping at Heathrow would be my only choice. Man, that was shit. Couldn't enjoy the next day because I was aching all over.
>>
not overnight but I once had an 8 hour layover at Charles De Gaulle

I'm 6'5 and fell asleep in an aisle by a gate when there was no-one there, woke up to a security guard poking me and then forcibly moving me to a chair when I went back to sleep
>>
Yes once in Tokyo it wasn't that bad honestly.
>>
>sleep in the arrival lounge, which is never full and nobody will bother you
>if security asks just show them your ticket and say you arrived too early
>bring snacks, maybe a cheap blanket you can toss before boarding

I have never heard of anyone with a ticket being ejected from an airport
I've done it several times in major airports, and there was always six other people doing the same
>>
>>1264084
Why is this even a question?

what is this even a post?

I just did at Moscow airport. This place is a fucking shithole, literally. There was poop and piss on the floot, the same fucking adverts keep playing on speakers making it impossible to sleep, support desk is undermanned at all times, all the food is more expensive than elsewhere and orders get screwed up because cashiers barely speak English.
But the internet is pretty good, and there's lots of AC ports. That was nice, I ended up working through the night.
>>
>>1264084
Literally last night. Amsterdam. Was very uncomfortable but I was very high and tired. Just grabbed a seat and sat upright to sleep.
>>
>>1264084
I thought that in /trv/ people would be at least as "experienced" travellers that everyone here had spent a night at the airport.
I quess I was wrong. Sigh, this board used to be for the real travellers.

>>1267379
> poor attempt at bait - you must be new here.
>>
>>1264084
Oh god what a horrible memory, thanks for reminding me.

I learned the hard way that my body will not allow me to sleep in anything other than a bed. I would literally end up just being awake for 3 days straight no matter how comfortable I tried to make myself.
>>
>>1267379

you know.. most of the 4channers travel in their office chairs
>>
>>1264084
Yep. Spent 22 hours in Kemerovo.
Literally the middle of nowhere, Russia.
>>
I had an two night stay in Zurich because the Italians fucked up my tickets, I had barely any money and the cheap hostels were packed. When I tried to sleep on the bench in the station officers would constantly walk by and make me sit up so I had to find a nice bench in a park nearby with a giant slot machine projected on the mall across the street. Luckily it was warm but I saw a couple of guys beat the shit out of a guy dressed as a priest.

Slept a couple of times in the Lima airport. It's okay--at least I could get coffee the whole time.

Here's the story of how I almost had to sleep in the Atlanta airport:
>Cousin gets job teaching in the Bahamas
>Invites me to spend a week hanging out on the beach
>Okaybyme.jpeg
>Fly down, hang out on beach with cousin
>Week goes by, say goodbye to cousin
>Take little island-hopper plane to Nassau
>Wait for flight to Atlanta and connecting flight
>Flight gets delayed
>Flight gets delayed further
>Delta announces the plane was hit by lightning and has returned to Atlanta to get checked
>New plane supposedly coming, but won't get there for another 3 hours
>Everyone with connections is going to miss their flight
>Nassau airport shuts down except for all of us
>Plane finally gets there
>Flying out
>Pilot announces that our bags overstayed the pre-customs check time window and we have to go through customs again in Atlanta
>Guy in seat next to me says, "Jesus, I just want to go home and go to bed."
>Ask him if he has a connection
>No, he's a doctor from Atlanta and going home from vacation
>He asks me if I have a connection
>Well, I did. Probably gonna sleep in the airport for a few hours and then try to rebook.
>"Hey, I have to travel for conferences all the time and I have more hotel points than I can use. You want to stay in a hotel instead? I can call and book a room for you as soon as we land."
>Sign me up, please
Pretty cool guy.

17 hours in Hong Kong
>>
>>1264084
yeh

>go to Heathrow for 12 hour coach back to uni because am poorfag
>get to central bus station early, coach is at 8pm
>waiting inside because dead of winter
>go outside twenty mins before departure, wait 45 mins no sign of coach
>???
>go ask at info desk
>coach came ten mins early and departed already
>there were no announcements and it was in a different bay
>!!!
>"we can sell you a ticket for the next one?"
>11am
>too much luggage to go home and back again

Thankfully I had a book and a phone charger, and the clerk put me on the next one free. Going to Germany next month so I hope I don't get memed again
>>
>>1264084
I tried but I'm too self conscious about sleeping around strangers.
