i finally finished my studies and have gathered enough money to go out for a while and explore the world. I'm planning to go alone and i want to go to scenic and beuatiful places across the world. But i'm still scared to go to places like india or egypt and turkey because of the fact that all the people around me keep telling me i'll just get raped and dumped by a ditch somewhere.

Does anyone maybe have some tips on travelling as a woman or recommendations on where to go/stay? Thank you! ^.^
>>
Women only travel to get fucked by foreigners anyway so what's the problem

Some tips:

Some countries are worse than others, places like Egypt, Morocco and Turkey aren't very safe for a solo woman, but many places are completely fine. Just look it up in google and see what other travellers have said about it, there will have been many people gone to places before you and happy to give information. Certain cultures are better than others, best not to generalise though.

Most countries will have female only dorms, this gives you a safe and cheap sleeping environment while also being somewhat social.

Hitchiking in general isn't a common thing around the world, many countries have different customs about it, some places people will happily pick you up but expect a fare for the travel, in some countries people will never pick up hitchhikers etc... Hitchiking is almost always one of the more dangerous ways to travel, maybe its good for a journey or two that you cant find any other route for, but even as a male I don't like to hitchike much just because there is a much higher likelihood that some wackjob will pick you up. (That being said, many people here have hitchiked across long distances solo and never had any trouble, but I personally wouldn't take the chance).

Make a group of friends at a hostel and try and travel with them for a bit, travelling in groups (even if your all female) is far safer than travelling solo.

I'd give you some recommendations if you want, although I'm no girl I do have lots of travel experience. What were you thinking about? Somewhere western, somewhere with lots of backpackers, somewhere cheap, somewhere remote, somewhere very adventurous?

Money isn't an issue but i mostly want to go to places with beautiful sights and lots of hospitality.

Then remove the word hitchhiking from your searching. Look up just public transportation, bus services, rail, and use uber/lyft or whatever when you can.

Whaaatt? I thought young women overwhelmingly go to Australia, France, Greece and Italy for the kangaroos, world-class cuisine, sunny beaches and architectural sight-seeing.

I am a guy, but I have travelled really a lot via hitchiking and have many female friends, who did the solo trips themselves and I talked with many others, who at least attempted it. Furthermore, I've spend quite a lot of time going through Turkey, so I had to deal with gay truck drivers countless times

From what I have gathered:
Sexual assaults are very rare, no matter what's your sex. What is common for girls is just the attemtps. That is - many guys giving you a lift will simply take their chance, hoping you'll like the idea of fucking them. Those will give up quite quickly. But still, you must expect stuff like grabbing your body, taking out their dicks, dirty talking, minor threats, jokes, etc.
It may not be too pleasant, but it's not harmful either. If you can't get over it and ignore this stuff altogether, forget about hitchhiking solo, or with just another girl. Stuff like this happens pretty often (but it really depends on your luck and your looks)

Some techniques my friends used with success:
-putting a boot on the window, demanding the truckdriver to stop the truck, threatening to kick out the glass (requires some good boots and some strength of course)
-talking with the driver how you love kids and how you want to have a big, big family with a husband, etc. (works for those harmless, but irritating guys, who can't take no as an answer)
-calling your friend, explaining exactly where you are/ where are you heading (plus, agree on some kind of code. for example when you say 'I'd like to eat a toast', it means there's something wrong with the guy)
-having a pepper spray (it helps both directly as well as something to calm your mind. If you're ab;le to use it, you can avoid most of the threats you'll ever encounter)
-not showing your emotions. - be calm, don't scream, gasp, shake. State your wishes firmly and calmly - this will show him, you may not be as easy to control as he wants you to be

cont.

That's mostly it. Don't dress slutty, as to not attract drivers who think with their dicks.

And once again - don't panic once the guy starts jacking off next to you. I've heard from some girls, they broke down crying and never tried hitchiking again. It's complete nonsense. Contless Turks touched me/lied beside me on the bed/ showed me terrible porn/ tried to talk me into sex. I just refused and ignored them and nothing else ever happened. And I'm a very short, harmless looking guy.

So be hardcore and nothing will ever stop you. And before you listen to advice, check who gives it and think why they do so.

Good luck on your ways.

I'd say Thailand if your looking for something exotic, as it has very good tourist infrastructure, lots of fellow tourists and Thai's are pretty nice in general. There are no issues with women travellers in Thailand (maybe only with other backpackers).

I'd suggest Krabi (Tonsai or Railay in particular) or Koh Phagnan if your looking to see nice sights and hangout with other young travellers. They are beach destinations, so they are more suited to relaxation. If your looking for more beach, less backpackers and more luxury, go to Phuket.

If you want something less relaxation based and more adventurous, go to Chang Mai in northern Thailand and do some trekking. Again, lots of tourist infrastructure and other travellers to help you out.

If you want to go somewhere even more out there and get (somewhat) remote, Laos over the boarder is much less touristy for the most part and has so many beautiful and under explored areas (my pictures are from Laos, albeit the most touristy part Vang Vieng, but probably one of the nicer looking & funner places in the country).

If you want to go to these places, you need to be aware of the seasons, as they are in the tropics. Monsoon season can be very annoying on your holiday. Most people go either at the start of the year or right in the middle (in line with Euro/US summer holidays).
>>
>>1256635
The people around you have never been to those places. Why would you listen to them even for a moment?

Skip those countries, and skip your stupid idea to hitchhike as well. Women should not act like trash and take risks like that or, yes, you open yourself up to the unthinkable. The frontal lobe is the last part of the body to mature, so you probably will discount any advice anyone says to you as odds not applying to you.

well its media hype. Always fact check the data.
Ill give you an example.
India claims a woman is raped every 20mins-22mins or what ever number, which is about 2200 a year.
3 per hour, 72 per day and 26,280 per year out of 1.2billion people.
its still 3x and 4x respectively lower then south africa and USA despite being 12x and 4x smaller and much more developed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics

india per capita is tied with canada at 1.8

like any nation practice caution. ITs mainly hype really about how scary it is there.

http://naughtynomad.com/2015/03/01/10-reasons-why-nyc-sucks/

I met indian women whom bought the hype but quick to admit, their slumss are way safer then ours. An rethink that USA UK and other western nations are more dangerous.

never buy hype just google or wiki the data and always fact check.
feminist do exaggerate it, but even then for indias case still pretty safe.

go for it enjoy, dont let other peoples ignorance and fears take away your dream

The biggest dangers when travelling are always:
1. Getting robbed
2. Getting killed by traffic

Most of the extra shit you have to deal with as a woman amounts to catcalling/harassment, not anything more serious. This is something you just accept you have to deal with travelling to certain places, although it can be extremely unpleasant.

The majority of rapes and sexual assaults are carried out by someone known to the victim. I've actually had more harassment/trouble from other western travellers/expats in some countries than people living there. Again, this is to do with familiarity/proximity.

Hitchhiking is inherently risky but there are some things you can do to minimize it (getting into cars with couples, not single men, hitching with a partner, etc). In all honesty though you'd be more in danger of being hit by a car standing on the side of a motorway with your thumb out than picked up by someone and raped/murdered. Remember that you always have the right to refuse a ride.

Try to think rationally about the risks and not emotionally. Fear/anxiety can be normal responses to culture shock, being in a very unfamiliar environment where you don't know the language/customs etc, but you grow out of it with more experience travelling.

If you feel unsafe in a given situation, leave. If you get bad vibes from someone, avoid them. There are some places where you shouldn't walk alone at night, but in most of these places that's the case for visibly western men too. Apply your common sense, do your research, and you will almost always be fine.

Never seen so many posters here who view hitchiking negatively. What gives?

As for OP, as you yourself point out some places will be easier than others. Experience and anecdotes tell me Europe will be more or less no different than were you a man, shouldn't get much trouble in South America, SEA can be variable.
>>
>>1256635
I would agree on not going to places such as India or Egypt especially alone.
>>
>>1258510
These numbers are interesting, but let's not forget the aspect that eg. Europeans are more likely to report rape than Indians. Or have their rape report taken seriously.

Even in Europe... Some drunkards tried to kick me in the head and rape me, but I managed to run away, cause, well, I was sober, and I run fast. I call my long-term boyfriend, he calls me a liar. (I dumped him afterwards, whatever.)
Again, this in Europe, I cannot begin to imagine how many people (not just women, men, too) are called liars in India if they experience something similar.
