Hey /Trv/ I'm planning a trip to Ukraine, Russia and Japan next January, any reccomendations on what to see/do. Will be starting in Kiev, Chernobyl, st Petersburg, Moscow, trans Siberian to Vladivostok, ferry to Japan.
>>
do you speak russian?
>>
No but I will learn Cyrillic and basic Russian before I go
>>
>>1254711
You might get shit from the Russian border guards if they see that you went to Ukraine and vice versa
>>
>>1254756
This is true, it's easier to get into the Ukraine from Russia than it is to get into Russia from the Ukraine.
>>
>>1254711
any idea what the trans Siberian will actally cost?
>>
>>1254756
Yeah I was wondering about this... I'll obviously have all visas organised well in advance and will be flying from Kiev to st Petersburg so hopefully it's not too bad
>>
>>1254767
Just the train alone for me and my girlfriend will be $2700-3000 AUD from Moscow to Vladivostok, stopping at Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk and Khabarovsk for 2 nights each.
>>
>>1254827
3.000 AUD for both of you combined in 2nd class?
>>
>>1254900
Both of us in 1st class
>>
We might drop one or two of those cities along the way to spend more time in Japan though.
>>

I have a friend who did some siberian parts and told me it's not expensive if you don't buy it all the way from moscow to vlad, you can fly to irkutsk and start taking the train from there, he told me he used to buy the tickets from the train station each stop so instead of buying one giant ticket he bought small ones separately
>>
>>1255376
Yeah you have to buy each leg of the trip individually, we want to complete the whole trip from st Petersburg to Vladivostok though, and we are on a deadline to be in Japan by a certain date so will be booking tickets well in advance

Irkutsk citizen here. Ask anything about Transsiberian, Baikal or Irkutsk if you interested.
>>
>>1254827
fuck what a rip off
>>
>>1255603
How many nights would you recommend staying in any of the cities I listed above? What activities are popular in Irkutsk/baikal during January?
>>
>>1254900
Sorry, I meant $3000 each. $6k AUD total.
>>
>>1256379
3-5 days in Moscow, 7-9 days in Petersburg, 2 days for Vladivostok. I don't what to do near Baikal at winter (ice fishing, maybe). Many tour groups have a walk to mountains near Baikal at summer (young people know English, once I had 2 Germans in my group).
>>
Take a hot, steamy piss out in the snow.

Advice for any boat trips on the Angara river? Is the language barrier going to make the trip miserable? I can handle reading signs and buying necessities, but I can't carry a conversation or answer questions well at all.
>>
>>1257837
I don't think it will be interesting. Baikal boat trips are good. Best idea is have a trip to Circum-Baikal Railway, beautiful sights. About language barrier: have a google translator, and show people the translation, Russians like to help travellers.
>>
>>1258144
Thank you! I might be in the area for 3-4 days next Spring. I will brush up on my alphabet and phrase book so I don't annoy too many people, but I will use google translator too. I appreciate the advice.
>>
>>1258209
wouldn't recommend a google translator because it doesn't work without wifi. there's plenty of free ones that do work without wifi but are large.
