Hey all! Anyone wanna share their experiences in travel that weren't fun at all?

For me, it was my entire experience in Paris. Spent a week there and had the entire trip ruined by the people there. They were rude as fuck even when I tried my best to speak their language. The second that I spoke English, every person would immediately become disinterested in me and pretty much told me to fuck off. I never had that experience anywhere else and I definitely don't recommend others to go to such a pompous city!
>>
This. Sorry you had a bad time, you shouldve ditch paris and visited the rest if france. The country side is beyond beautiful filled with the kindest people youll ever meet. Pairs on the other hand, is a nasty cesspool full of disgusting grossness. I bet it was beautiful and clean in its hayday but today its full of swindlers and people taking literal shits in the middle of the street. Pairs is basicly the india of europe
>>
>not being able to enjoy Paris

It takes a special kind of person, i mean really. It's no sparkling wonderland for sure but somethings wrong if you can't find things to enjoy for a week in that city
>>
>>1253133
Any time I go somewhere with people and they use the line "we will see when we get there about fun shit to do". I instantly know it's going to be a shit show
>>

I loved it, maybe because I went with my German girlfriend and she loved th Latin quarter, and it sure helps as a couple when socialising.
Otherwise, my French teacher in Brussels confirmed that Parisiens are real snobby (but not her).
My French stinks but I've found people off the beaten track far friendlier.
Val d'Isere is where I experienced disgusting behaviour from a French hotel owner, but I plainly told them where they were wrong () they accused me of breaking their faulty plumbing!) and they shut up.
I speak German, French, English and Italian, and I must admit the French can be problematic in big cities. They are the least tolerant of small errors in pronunciation or grammar. Italians are best, closely followed by Germans.
Worst experience traveling? Sadly it was the immigration at San Francisco airport - since then I decided to never viisit USA again. Snobby French and bureaucratic Belgians I can handle, but that officer did his best to discourage any future tourism.
Best experience? Oddly, Switzerland, given their reputation.
>>
>>1253133
>The second that I spoke English
Ah, I missed that bit. Yeah, someone should have warned you. Quel faux pas!
Complete opposite to the Swiss girl I met in a Zurich mall - she refused to speak anything but English despite me insisting on German!
But I've also witnessed language phobia in dutch speaking Belgium: at a train ticket counter a customer spoke French and the cashier froze in terror, he started complaining, in French, and she continued freezing. She had previously dealt with my inquiry in English perfectly well. I've seen milder forms of this in French speaking parts of Switzerland, but on the other hand always got on with my French co-workers in either English or German.

Newark, New Jersey

A complete shit hole, full of nogs (hotel said *do not* go outside at night in downtown), an awful delapidated airport and a train station overrun with aggressive homeless and reeking of piss.

Every single cab/uber driver asked why on earth I came there - fuck you Virgin America why don't you fly to LGA/JFK at least - and I won't make the same mistake. It felt like The Wire but in real life, right down to the gunshots you can hear at night.
>>
>>1253457
Newark is pretty shit. Unfortunately the tri-state area still has a problem with crime but I would have recommended Philadelphia, has a lot of nice locations for food/beer/festivals and historic sites around.
>>
>>1253364

What reputation does Switzerland have? I was there several weeks ago and had a jolly good time.
>>
>>1253457

Kek.

My Indian ex goes to Rutgers.

She was telling me about how she was walking around Newark and a massive, fat black guy just blocked her path and demanded a $10 donation to let her pass.

Germans I spoke to would tell me the Swiss are more German than German, meaning more bureacratic, more anal retentive and more of a stickler for paperwork and forms.
You get completely different experiences as a tourist compared with living there, and I've done both, several times.
Actual examples: I return to my rental moving van properly parked in a residential area to find a new bottle of cleaning fluid taped to my windshield with the message "please clean" in German - I'd driven 1000 km and had no time to clean it. Happened twice, different cities. 2. Neighbours complained that I had not cut my lawn sufficientl - the gras had gone 10 cm over the path. 3. I had not sufficiently cleaned a rental house before leaving it and had to endure insane complaining, I eventually paid a firm 1750 Francs to re-clean it 4. I often crossing the Como Chiasso border by bus and Swiss border police stop everybody who is not white, without fail. 5. they are obsessed with cleanliness (I actually like this) 6. they are loud. 7. they do not appear to like Austrians and Germans, but love British and Americans (to practice English maybe?) Of course I've also met nice Swiss, and then found they were half English, or half Italian!

>be me
>just spent 3500 goober dollars on a school Europe trip
Luckily we were able to have a tour with JUST our school.
>flew into berlin
>met our tour guide that was staying with us through all 5 countries
>name is Jergen or something like that
>kind of has a british accent
>He's Hungarian we find out
>Tfw Hungarian, British accent with a scandinavian name.
>drive through the city center in berlin to get to our hotel
>It felt kind of like New York but the historical architecture was very good.
>mfw we leave the nice part of the city (pic related)
>get onto a shitty street where our hotel is
>check in with my lads
>"hopefully we still have a nice view of the city"
>open curtain
>detroit.jpg
>view is basically telephone poles, smokestacks, and an office building.
>"welp lets hit the sack"
>I flip through the channels on our tv
>tfw Cops:german version
>most of it was drunks getting cuffed
>*click*
>strange bread talking german
Did some research after the 12 day trip. He's called "Bernd das Brot"
>he entertained me and the lads for a while
>*click*
>tfw German SNL
>libtard german media creating a depiction of the Don with the slogan under him "Make Fassenacht Great Again"
>turn off tv
>thots from our school walk into our room
>ow ow ooch my testosterone.jpg
>I let them in
>god I'm such a chad
>go to sleep

The only thing I enjoyed about Berlin was the food, the historical architecture, and the night I just talked about. I expected more out of Berlin. Besides that, travelling to Prague, Dresden, Krakow, Budapest, and Vienna was very fun.
>>
>>1253542

Yeah, I did feel they were friendlier around the south, Bellinzona mainly.

Also it helped that I could speak Spanish and felt more understood than trying to speak English in Zurich.
>>
Fucking Istanbul. Just overly aggressive assholes that harassed me wherever I went. I've heard it's different if you go alone, but fuck me what a beautiful city full of terrible scam artists. I'll still recommend it for the sites.

>>1253144
a lot of people hate paris, i think it's a shit city too. i had a good time there because of some people i met, but overall it was a miserable fucking experience and i hope to never return.

I would like to see some of the other cities in France though.
>>
>>1253133
Paris is basically Portland, if hipster was a language.

The second they realize you don't speak it, they will COMPLETELY turn on you and be cunts.
>>
>>1253133
kek. im half arab (black), half british.
my brother was at a record store and asked the dude if he had any american rap cds, and the clerk angrily went "Go back to your country for american rap!!!"
jeez man whats the deal
>>
>>1253457
Why the hell would anyone go to Newark expecting Venice? It was a working class city before the riots. The only thing to do there is go to the Newark Museum which many people like, eat in the restaurants on Ferry Street in the Ironbound and go see sports at the Prudential and music at NJPAC.
>>
>>1253494
Philly ain't no safe place either. Go wait for a train at Broad & Erie or Market & 52.
>>
I don't get this at all. I slept my first not in Paris on the street, met some of the kindest homeless people I've ever encountered. And I don't even speak French. Then, just by hanging out listening to music on my stereo, I hooked up with a group of students. Spent the next four nights sleeping with a French qt. Every day was filled with museums, so not much human interaction, but every night was uni crowds and bars and nice folk.
>>
>>1253566
I had the exact opposite experience. Istanbul was probably the friendliest place I've ever been too (and for the record I went with a couple other people).
Granted, it was Ramadan so probably everyone was striving to get their good deeds counter up, but I've never gotten so many freebies on any trip, in addition to people just being friendly and going out of their way to help.
>>
>hating on Paris
Back to /pol/ you manchilds. Of course it's messy, of course there are immigrants, of course you won't fucking meet autistic qt a la Amelie on every street. Grow up.
>>
>>1253457
as someone from new jersey I feel like I have to apologize. i hate newark too. the difference from newark penn station and new york penn station is like night and day. i think it will get better though, it's undergoing a major face lift right now.

I didn't enjoy Paris because it didn't look or feel French...at all. If I wanted to be surrounded by mosques and blacks blabbering in Arabic I would've visited Algeria.

>b-b-but it's a big city. What do you expect?
The excuses some of you snowflakes trot out in a warped justification of Paris' immigrant problem are cringe-worthy. I have visited two of the biggest cities in the world, Tokyo and Mexico City, and they felt Japanese and Mexican respectively.

It makes me sad because from watching documentaries about Paris it looks like the city was a real gem back in the day. These days it's covered in trash, graffiti and Africans literally shitting on the streets. France please don't sacrifice your capital city for the sake of multiculturalism.
>>
Haven't really had a bad experience but London is the most meh city ever and pretty ugly, since I like going for late drinks when travelling London is pretty shit for that. It's also expensive.

Also I'm trapped in Giardini Naxos atm after having a great time in Catania, I was hoping to visit Taormina but it's closed due to G7 and there's protests in the streets of Giardini and everything's closed. Still having a relaxing time but a bit disappointing.

Everyone I met in Paris was pretty friendly, also as this man mentioned I went with my GF and stayed in "posh" parts and it felt like I expected Paris to feel like.

>>1253556
That's strange everyone I know who has been to Berlin says the food is awful. I myself haven't been but have no interest in going it seems overly "hippy" or beuracratic at the same time with most of it looking like an industrial estate.
>>
That's strange OP, I had nothing but positive experiences in Paris. Very nice and friendly people everywhere I went, and I'm an American to boot.

On that note, I agree wholeheartedly with >>1253364 about US immigration. I'm even an American and they were still just massive douches. I traveled through several European countries and their customs were much more pleasant.
>>
>>1254489
That's like saying you don't wanna go to Peking for the smog. It's literally part of the city by now and the epitome of the worsening culture there. It's fucking great.
>>
>>1253900
No one in this thread even mentioned immigrants.
Also, it's manchildren.
>>
>>1254489
How do you enjoy traveling but hate multiculturalism?
>>
>>1254788
Beccause it's nice to experience different culturrs whereas multiculturalism is a big pile of shit mixed together. Keep them seperate and vibrant. Don't mix them together
