America's worst city?

I'm not sure it's even Nevada's worst city. Ever been to Elko? Winnemucca?

Tonopah is pretty awful too. On top of everything else bad about that place, their hospital shut down this year because the doctor running the thing was embezzling from it at ridiculous levels.
It had been the only hospital for the 400 mile stretch between Vegas and Carson City. Says a lot about the true awfulness of Nevada.

I hate to badmouth a neighbor, especially one with as much natural physical beauty as Nevada (there are some exceptionally attractive desert and mountainside landscapes), but you're not far off. I live in CA and have done a fair amount of work in NV, mostly but not only in Reno/Washoe County, and there is a lot about that state that is truly dismal. I think the fact that its most lucrative industries are all basically extractive, leaving comparatively little money behind locally, is a big part of the problem.
Carson City is not the worst US city because they have one of the country's best train museums: the Nevada State Railroad Museum. They have multiple steam locomotives dating as far back as the 1870s (some still run, which is extremely impressive) and one particularly unusual locomotive in their collection, a McKeen railcar built in 1910 (pic related), is the only locomotive listed as a National Historic Landmark.
Also, as one other poster said ITT, it's right next to Lake Tahoe and all of the gorgeous nature there. Plus, it's the state capitol, which gives it relevance. I would venture to say that Carson City might actually be the BEST city in Nevada.

...and if you want to know what the actual worst city is in the US, it's Flint, Michigan.

I was going to say Camden,NJ but it has become a bit safer and Campbell soup still has there headquarters there.

I accidentally traveled there while visiting Philly next door ten years ago when it was the #1 most violent US city. Seeing the wrecked cop car on a tow truck was unsettling.

Agreed, Carson City isn't so bad if you're interested in Wild West stuff, trains, mining, and unless I'm mistaken I think prostitution is legal in that county. Old, over priced broads probably but safe.
Yuck
