I checked in to a 6 person room in a hostel for a week and reception offhandedly told me that there would be nobody else in my room until the weekend.
Normally that would be a good deal for a private room but I'm trying to work on my social autism and meet people. Would you request to change rooms?
i hate empty dorms... makes you feel like a total social reject..
I have money for privates, I chose to stay in a dorm to meet people.

Rooms are for sleeping, go to the common area and sink beers with people

I got an empty dorm at a hostel in Paris. It also helps that the 2 bunk beds in my room were missing the top bed, so instead of a 4-room dorm, it became a 2 dorm and 3 Koreans came in, but left when they realized the bunk beds had missing top bunks.
Didn't care, got good sleep and masturbated the night away after hanging out with a Frenchie I haven't seen in 2 years

sounds like a good opertunity to fap

You don't really meet people in the dorm. Hang out in the common room, if you make friends with people there they might invite you back to their dorm to hang out, that happened to me a few times. I was in a different dorm to the 'crew' I had been hanging out with, but it didn't make much a difference because I would just go into their dorm anyway. It's not a big dealio OP.

The best thing ever. You can jack off to porn without having to do it in the dirty bathroom. You can browse 4chan and shitpost without feeling guilty. You can sleep like a baby. It's great. You don't meet people in dorms btw.

Yea this. Sounds amazing OP. It's a hostel anyway unless you're in somewhere really obscure there'll be surprise lodgers I'm sure.
I generally meet people in the common rooms too but meeting people in the dorm is underrated. I'm an introvert who isn't socially awkward and I almost always meet the best people in my room because they're introverts too hiding out to recharge a little
Protip: it's not intrusive if you mention that you're an introvert too and you both laugh about it

I don't mind, probably better for others anyways as i snore like a truck.
Meet people in common areas.
Now you can bring women back without feeling any guilt.

I love dorm rooms with curtains for the beds, its so comfy. I wish they all had them. As to the topic I prefer empty dorm rooms, the only reason I choose hostels instead of hotel/motels is because its cheaper.

How do hostels make money? Sure they cram a lot in but they're so fucking cheap I don't really see why they wouldn't just turn it in to a regular hotel. Are they more passion projects?
>>1241826
THE FUCKING BEST! It's like winning a prize. single room for dorm price. I hate dorms, there is always a motherfucker snoring.

I'd wake you up all night. if I can't sleep then you can't either. You selfish cunt.
It means I can finally fap after 2 weeks of no privacy. Plus you can watch porn!

It's the best place to meet cutie 3.14's
I always love when I'm the only person in a dorm.
The brunt of socialization I do in hostels is in common areas. I prefer people to be quieting when they're around beds and folks who could possibly sleeping.
I only stay in dorms to save money. They're miserable otherwise, precisely because you have to deal with other young and dumb travelers. I've never gotten more than a night or two of decent rest before some bumblefuck crashes in drunk or turns on the lights or decides to have a conversation with his m8 across the room at 3am.
Dorms are probably my least favorite part about traveling, TBPFH.

I think there would be a lot more staff and overheads in a hotel, in a hostel you can get away with a few locals and some backpackers willing to work for a room and food.
>>1241826
They are obviously trying to give you what you paid for, OP, and to keep their other rooms free for no reservation arrivals to get a choice, the kind of choice the make the maximum amount of money. Go ahead and ask if they will change you, but I can't imagine why they wouldn't have done that already if they aren't going to try to get more money out of you.
Bleh, hostels, especially when traveling alone. I would find it a touch creepy to be asleep with strangers I do not know, but that's why I don't sleep in hostels. That's just me. I don't like to use communal bathroom facilities either, because I don't travel with my own personal can of Lysol and there's no maid going in and out of the bathroom with bleach between guests like you get with a private room.

Why the fuck do you want to meet people? I've been on the road for 9 months and met only 5 decent people, the rest are cunts. Also everyone is on their phone now in common rooms. So you won't meet people there either. The best people I have met on my trip have been at a stop on an overnight bus trip in India, outside the gates of my Hostel in Nepal, and one in the common room. The rest were on the beach or in towns etc.
is it really that easy to meet people in hostels? i'm thinking about going to a couple cities in europe myself in early august. i'm 27, will that make me sort of old for the hostel crowd?

You'll be fine. Just hang out in the common areas. Most people are in their twenties who hang out in hostels. You won't be the old guy until you're like 40.
Your chance of being caught wanking have drastically decreased
