For me, it's Paris. I don't get the hate. Yeah there's scammers and a shit ton of tourist traps but I haven't ever seen a more beautiful city.

Singapore too. /trv/ says it's boring but it's fascinating how efficient and clean it is compared to American cities. Also the museums were pretty good there too.
>>
Studied abroad in Paris and absolutely loved it. My first time in Europe too. At my homestay, I met this qt Russian chick who seemed to like me a lot. Planning on going to Paris sooner rather than later to meet her again

Thankyou op. Maybe it pisses off pol or the 'real travellers' but I've lived here for years and i really like it. Obviously it isn't perfect but the amount of shit Paris gets on here is a total meme.
>>
I fucking LOVE Paris. I just got back last week from a week in Paris alone and I had an absolute fucking blast. Part of it for me is that I get to speak French which I don't get to do back home.

The scammers and gypsies are almost a barrier to entry for newfags that I kinda like it. Once you get a hang of all the strings / arabs / north Africans it's pretty easy. The worst are those gypsies at the Eiffel tower who ask you to sign their shit.

I got fucked hard on some sort of Albanian shell game though. I knew I shouldn't have done a heavy wake and bake before heading out into the heart of those fuckin' Albanians for a pack of smokes. By the time I realized what was happening there went 200 euros. Oh well, worth it for the lesson. Protip: They're all playing together, the dealer, the "players", etc.
>>
>>1229998
As always, Donny said it best: I have to go back.

Anyone here done TAPIF or similar for teaching English?
>>
I've been in Paris once, in February. No smell, yes there were migrants and sketchy Arabs selling watches near Montmartre but I felt safe. It was freezing so I didn't see any gypsies either.

No one made me speak French, au contraire they asked me to speak English when they heard my poor French. I don't think Parisians were rude either. Maybe it's an American thing, if people are not fake smiling all the time and saying empty compliments they are considered rude.

Also I liked those neighborhoods with their own little touch, like "Chinatown", "Little Israel" etc..
>>
>>1230007
I've heard that you get a lot better treatment if you at least show that you attempt to speak French. YMMV I guess.
>>
>>1230008
This is true. My first trip I didn't understand why people said the French were rude. I attribute this to starting with Bonjour, parlez vous anglais? And working from there. People just react better when you start the conversation in their native language. A Spanish woman came up to me speaking Spanish looking for assistance with a ticket machine and I wanted to help but I couldn't understand her and she couldn't understand me so I just walked away. She probably thought I was rude but nobody has 15 minutes to spare for that.
>>
>>1229806
Yeah, same for me. I mean Paris has its flaws like any other place but I guess that a lot of the shit it gets here it is just plain old 4chan contrarianism.

I come from a very touristic place so I'm used to the touts, high prices and people minding their own business. Comes with the territory.
>>
>>1229998
Sounds like the old three card monte game in New York.
>>
>>1230019
Or the trileros in Barcelona. This is one of the oldest scams ever, it's always amusing to watch them and figure out who's part of the setup.
>>
>>1229881
That post makes me think you loved the q;t Russian chick you met in Paris, not the city itself
>>
>>1230025
Oh believe me man, I loved the city. I arrived just in time to celebrate Bastille day last year. Didn't go to the military parade, but did go see the fireworks under the Eiffel tower and managed to take amazing pictures, got drunk and smoked a joint while the fireworks were going off.
Also, what other anons said, I never experienced a French person being rude to me.
Also, crêpes
>>
>>1230009
This, I'm a Parisian myself and I always try to help tourists when they are polite and when I see that they're trying at least a little. And asking in French if I speak English is a guaranteed reply.
On the other hand I might ignore rude people. A few days ago a couple of tourists asked 'What's this?' pointing at the Louvre without saying 'Hello'. I was not sure if I was getting trolled so I didn't even stop walking. Same if you don't remove your sunglasses, for example.

Venice

I know it's a cliched town riddled with tourists but it's so ridiculously beautiful and comfy in places, I loved every minute of it. So much I'm gonna go back this year in fact
>>
A lot of people here really dislike SoCal, but I'm honestly considering it for a future home after having been there a few times.
>>
>>1230072
Personally I dont hate it, just too damn expensive. Its like a novelty city. great in short bursts but very draining to live in.
>>
>>1230072
OP here. I'm from SoCal. Orange County, specifically. I went out of state for college because I was bored with it but all it did was make me realize what a great place I left.
>>
>>1229806
Singapore, GCC countries (UAE, Bahrain, etc.), and the West Indies/Caribbean.
>>
>>1229806
I've been to Paris once and I enjoyed it very much. I think it's mostly Anglos who shit on it, and France in general.
>>
>>1230007
I'm >>1230365 and I have no idea why Anglos think the French are rude. My experience was the exact opposite, I thought people there were -very- friendly and polite, the Arabs staring from doorways with murderous eyes aside.
>>
>>1229806
Atlantic City. Never understood the hate. Best city in the world for partying too. Makes more /trv/ party destinations like Barcelona look like garbage.
>>
Don't be fooled, it's indeed a shithole. Great for shopping and arts though. You better be rich!
>>
>>1230383
Away from the casinos,it's ghetto. Camden on the Atlantic.
>>
>>1230367
Nah. French aren't rude but in my experience they aren't friendly either.
>>
>>1230021
>>1230019
It was so obvious after I gave the money to the dude. I just stood there with my cigarette turning to ash with the stupidest look on my face realizing what just happened.

Don't even know how I didn't realize, this is like a classic Simpson's skit.
>>
>>1229998
Kek, is weed easy to find in Paris? I just drank a lot which I don't do that often back home. Some Aussie in a restaurant (frog burger) in chinatown gave us some weed. He was fucking cool
>>
>>1230637
Dead easy for me anyway. Some guy on r/paris said he had a hookup and PM'd me the number before I even arrived. When I got there I texted the dude and gave him my address and he showed up at my airbnb and sold me a QO (7g) on two occasions for 50eur. Was very reasonable considering I was lucky to get a hookup at all and it was delivered to my door by a Lebanese chap on a vespa.

It was in Paris that I developed my perfect mix of drunk and high and it lead to an absolute cracker of a time. There's something about the cheap wine you can buy at any hour of the day or night that was just so perfect.

My Airbnb host also left me a list of places I'm pretty sure no tourist has ever set foot in before which were abso-fucking-lutely incredible and picture perfect replicas of everything my mind had envisioned Paris could be and is.

(it helps a lot that I speak French)
>>
>>1229998
I feel you on speaking the language, I speak German, and it feels nice to be in the Bavaria region and surrounding countries and not speaking english, it's so fucking satisfying and you feel 10x more immersed
>>
I'll do the opposite

I haaaaaaaaaaaaated Berlin with a fiery passion but for some reason /trv/ is in love with it. After reading about it nonstop and eventually moving there to live for a few years I think it's safe to say that I want to drop more than a few nukes on the city.
>>
>>1230650
like where are these places? I live here. Near odeon? Near la marais? Both beautiful quarters imo
>>
>>1230716
>/trv/ loves berlin

What in the godamn Hell you're talking about?

Anytime someone even remotely mentions Berlin every autist comes out of the woodworks and starts sreeching about turks, hipsters and smelly hippies
>>
>>1230831
Yeah, that why we have like 4 threads up right now about Berlin with people loving the scene or the nightlife. Anytime someone mentions the disgusting hoardes of turks and gypsies people come running to the defense to scream "back 2 /pol/ u fukken racist"

I don't hate it, but when I do go to Germany I don't go there, there are so many more interesting cities to go to, i think the people who like it are the "muh history" fags who try to defend that Rome isn't a piece of shit because it has historical relevance, but in reality Rome is an overrated circle jerk
>>
>>1230831
>mentions Berlin every autist comes out of the woodworks and starts sreeching about turks, hipsters and smelly hippies

because that's what Berlin is you fucking mongoloid
>>

Mainly Montmartre where I was staying. 18th
>>
mexicali.
>>
>>1231041
Why?

Of all the Mexican border towns I've been to Mexicali is by far the most soulless (not to mention its weather which makes Phoenix seem nice in comparison)
>>
>>1230059
>Never experienced a French person being rude.

I call bullshit on that. I havent even been to France and ive come across atleast 10 rude French people.
One guy the other day just walked across the road while cars still had a green light and he just held his hand out as if he's saying 'stop'
All these cars are coming to a screeching halt and beeping and this guy is yelling at them in French as if they're the assholes.

Wasn't even surprised at all that he was french
>>
>>1231290
>One guy the other day just walked across the road while cars still had a green light and he just held his hand out as if he's saying 'stop'
That usually means 'thanks'.
>>
>>1231296
Or 'sorry'.
>>
>>1231290
see guy being and asshole
see he is french
french are assholes
>>
>>1231296
not samefag, but there is also a way when you show them 'stop' instead if sorry/thanks, it's more stiff i think?
i only did it like once, the roads were a bit icy, and this old man only managed to cross 2 out of 4 lanes (one direction) while the light was still green for pedestrians. fucking drivers started going, while the man was clearly doing his best, so i walked up next to the old guy, held up my hand/palm like 'don't dare try fucking move'
i did wave thanks when we got to the other side, but that's a different one.
>>
I really liked Prague.
>>
>>1230062
This. I arrived n Venice ready to endure being there, but actually really enjoyed it. It takes little effort to wander off from the main tourist spots.
>>
South Korea.
>>
>>1231290
I'm the guy who you responded to.

>calls bullshit on French people not being rude to me
>I've been to Fance
>not you
>me
>hasn't been to France

It really is true. No French person was ever rude to me.
>>
>>1229806
paris is the shit, there's always something new just around the corner
>>1230007

Travel distance aside, Vegas is just superior in every single way. I used to love AC too. And then I took my first trip to Vegas, and AC was just kind of ruined for me. I went back like a 4 years ago, and everything was just shittier. The lack of sports books absolutely kills it for me as well.

And honestly, it smells. Badly.
>>
>>1231627
I have never had a French person be rude to me either.
>>
>>1229806
I loved Singapore, I am from London and it's a dump compared to Singapore.

The UAE is a great place to go relax for a while, check some modern architecture and futuristic city planning, and just look around at how intriguing the place is.
>>
>go to france
>get pickpocketed on the first train out of airport

>>
>>1229806
I'm going to Paris in a couple of weeks. I'm from NYC, and I'm kind of confused by all the warnings about pickpockets and the pace of the city. Does Paris compare to NYC in that regard? Are these warnings geared towards 'murricans who aren't familiar with big cities or is it really that bad?
>>
>>1233951
it's really that bad

google about it

there's a dozen scams being run daily and constant pick pocketing in tourist areas, the metro

even the airport train gets hit

workers in the louvre and Eiffel tower even went on strike about it once because it was so bad
>>
How does one even get pickpocketed? Get a better bag.
>>
>>1234050

...or leave your shit in the hotel.

Also, the chest pockets on North Face jackets have use beyond just looking cool.
>>
>>1233951
Just don't be stupid and you'll be fine. If you're keeping valuables in pockets, make sure you keep hands in pockets when in crowded areas, or just have them be in secure pockets. If you've got things in a back, take the bag off your back when in crowded areas and have your arm around it. It's simple stuff. Not experienced any issues in Paris before and I've been solo travelling as a skinny white teenager.
>>
>>1233951
It is that bad. As a big city person, you have the basics down already, so you won't be the main target.
>>
>>1229806
Singapore is fucking awesome. There is that Singapore thread from months ago that is constantly getting bumped still, so there are plenty here who agree
>>
Saigon gets a bad rap because tourists arrive and are overwhelmed by all the motorbikes
>>

>Same if you don't remove your sunglasses, for example.
wait what?
is this a new rule of politesse? Like, if I ware my sunglasses for an hour or so I'm not even aware of them. Taking the off outside, in the sun, wouldn't occur to me at all
>>
>>1234576
>is this a new rule of politesse
What? Eye contact? Not sure it's new.

The few times I've been there I've always had fun and the people were nice once you started talking to them.
>>
>>1234563
saigon is a run of the mill westernized big city, hanoi is much more atmospheric
>>
>>1233951
I went to Paris for the first time this past summer and I'm from a small town, so i had no clue about pickpockets or scammers or anything. I was completely fine. I have never had an issue with anything in Paris. I've spent a total of 4 and a half months there since May of last year. Just don't act like a tourist. If you make it super obvious that you are not from there and you have no clue wtf you are doing then I am sure you will paint a bigger target on your back. Do not be afraid to ignore people or say no to them if they try to ask for money or have you sign something or whatever.
