Don't be the cliche tourist that smokes weed/drinks alcohol/takes shrooms all at the same time. This is not homegrown US shit. This is industrial genetic engineered shit to be as powerful as possible you WILL black out/faint/die.

There are certain cases when you want to buy the card, other times you don't.
If you visit at least one museum per day, then it's already well worth it.
If you use public transport a lot, it might also worth it.
If you just end up staying in the centre, not going to musea and also no trams, then don't buy it.

I don't think Airbnb is worth it for 2 ppl, but if you find a good deal now, book it.
Also in general, book anything already, Amsterdam fills up, and you don't want to resort to five star hotels or 10+ bed dorms that are left.
I think you might still have a chance to find something via booking.com.

Shrooms are for sale in specific stores all throughout the city center. Hell they even have official packaging branding like you're buying a packet of cigarettes. The shops usually have a psychedelic theme or giant mushroom on their window or something so you'll notice them directly.

I personally didn't rent a bike and walked everywhere. The longest distance I had to walk took me 20 minutes to cover on foot, which is apparently long for locals. Also I didn't want to risk an injury riding a bike while intoxicated which you'll probably be the majority of your stay.

If I were you, I'd spend a night in Amsterdam and travel to other parts of the NL for the remainder of your trip.

I've made a 4 day NL itinerary just for you.

Day 1: For your first night, go to the sex museum (4 Euros) and then take a walk to one of Amsterdam's Red Light Districts in De Wallen (yeah there's more than one). Get properly pissed and go to bed.

Day 2: The next morning, take the free ferry behind CS and swing on the Amsterdam Lookout (12.50 per person). Afterwards, take tram 16 (free) to Museumplein and hit up the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum (17 Euros each) for some culture. After that, take a walk through Vondelpark and fuck your girlfriend in public. Maybe afterwards, head to Leidseplein and get something to eat/drink there. If you're a smoker, hit up Easy Times. In the evening, leave AMS and take the InterCity to Rotterdam but stop off at Delft (known for Delftware) and enjoy the an hour or two here. Once you're in Rotterdam, it will be night time. Check into your hotel and head to Witte de Withstraat and get something to eat, drink, and smoke.

Day 3: In the morning, find a free walking tour. After the tour, visit a cube (5 euros), get a water taxi, and head to Maastunnel. It is important that you do this asap because it will soon be closed for construction. Once you've crossed, find a coffee shop or cafe and relax because you made it!

Day 3: Go to little Amsterdam (Leiden) and hit up The First Room where finally you're not paying tourist prices for good weed (kabouter is 23 Euro voor vijf gram)! Afterwards, take a bus to a town called Noordwijk aan Zee and spend the night here. If you're a tripper, this is the best place for you.

Day 4: Assuming you have woken up in Noordwijk, take the earliest shuttle back to Amsterdam and spend the rest of the day here. Alternatively, if you have an early flight, they'll drop you right off at Schipol.

Proper inside information here! I agree on the fact, stated somewhere above, that Amsterdam is an overrated tourist trap, but I'm Dutch and I've seen too many other cool places in The Netherlands to be that impressed by Amsterdam. For me that city is the place I frequently have to go to because of concerts/parties but it's also a shithole with a lot of drunk and stoned tourists. The city itself is cool I guess, but I don't like the atmosphere.

In the west there are many other great places to visit, as stated in the post I replied to. About the same architecture, the same Dutch directness but less tourists and a friendlier ambience. Travel distances in The Netherlands are ridiculously short; even if you were to travel to the other side of the country it would take you some 3 - 3,5 hours. The only reasons to not visit places other than Amsterdam would be either a time restriction or just having no interest to dive into the country's true essence, i.e. instead preferring to just get drunk/stoned/laid.

If you spare the time I'd recommend Utrecht as well; it's a bit similar to Amsterdam (they have canals).
