Hi guys, i will be flying from Munich to Australia next week and i want to take my fishing rod with me. The rod will be inside a tube and attached to my backpack. Problem is that the tube is slightly bigger than my backpack. (Tube=1meter)
My question is, will i have any problems at the airport because of the extra length? Is it allowed or do i have to pay more?
Pic is backpack with rod tube
you could try shoving the tube up your anus
it depends on what airline are you flying with, check it out on their web site.

Kite person here, never had much trouble with similar long skinny things carried on. I have had some security folks nervous about the flying line, which may be analogous to fishing line, and once was delayed during a long discussion about whethr the sticks constituted "sharp objects."
I mostly just check my stuff, now, to avoid all that and carry more choices, but that may not be as good an option for one small item.
When in doubt, ask the airline.
I think it will depend on the airline and the person that checks you in. I have gone with no issues and I have had problems as well. On a trip to Alaska they made me remove and discard all the fishing line (as it was determined to be a dangerous weapon).
I would make sure they are attached well, as they may become separated. Good luck.

I work at Zurich airport as a baggage handler. I see bags like that come down from the normal baggage belts, not the Sperrgut area (which you'd pay more for). According to our rules anything more than 100cm is Sperrgut, give or take a few centimeters.
