Planning a trip to Hawaii? Don't wanna look like a fucking tool while you're here?
Ask away.
Hmm... what's the point of this thread exactly?
I mean everyone going to Hawai goes there for the beaches and the nice mountains/jungles
What tips do you have to share?

Right, so let's just look up "beaches in Hawaii" and go to the first result, huh? You do realize Hawaii has six whole islands you could (legally) visit? Granted, most people will just visit Oahu or Maui, but depending on the kind of sights you want to see or the activities you want to do, the island you'll want to visit could be completely different from what you originally planned.
Not to mention the beaches you'll find recommended to you are probably filled to the brim with tourists so you'll be stepping on glass or a cigarette butt every two feet (if you can even find parking or get through traffic to reach it), so if you're planning on visiting the beaches then you'll want to know which are the best according to locals, when the best time to go is, and which beaches get the most jellyfish so you know to avoid those too.
There's seriously so many things to learn about Hawaii before going here. It's not just "beaches and nice mountains/jungles".
Not to mention it'll be handy to know how not to get ripped off at every turn, which happens even to people that think they're "smarter" than the average tourist. I've worked in the tourism industry here, and boy, let me tell you. I've sold enough 25 dollar boxes of mac nut chocolate (that are maybe 5 bucks at walmart) to last me a lifetime.

I'm going to Maui next month. How do I get to Lanai?
>>1210219
There's a ferry that can take you both ways, every couple of hours from morning to late afternoon. Lanai is pretty much all sugarcane and pineapple fields, but there's a pretty cool beach there with a shipwreck if I remember correctly.
Good timing too. You might see some whales.

>look like a tool while on vacation
Im not a woman so I really wouldnt care what something that ill never see again thinks of me, or anyone really. Thanks.
Hawaii is an over-commercialised piece of trite.
The beaches are shit compared to most other Pacific nations, the indigenous Hawaiian culture has been raped to shit, Pearl Harbour wouldn't be interesting if it weren't for the USS Arizona.
Honestly, if you want a true island experience, don't go to Hawaii.

New to this thread, but I do want a "true island" experience (I mean I'm a tourist/traveler, it's obviously not 'true', but I don't want to see the Disney trademarked shit because I can see that anywhere in the goddamn burgerworld). Where should I go?
Phillipines? Japan? Cuba? There are lots of islands, Hawaii is the only chain I've been to. And I regret to say, I stayed mostly on the beaten path there, although the Kileau volcano was nonetheless breathtaking for its surprisingly small amount of tourist shit. I guess the tourists who go to HI don't really give a shit about actual cool stuff, just want warm sand and saltwater.
Is end of April/beginning of May a good time to visit Hawaii? Any off-the-beaten-path (tm) attraction that you would recommend?
thanks a lot mate

Seconding this. There are a fuckload of islands in the Pacific, you'd think that at least one of them would have some advertising while also not being a trampled mess with the inhabitants chain-ganged into the tourist industry. But so far I have had zero luck

Palau has been independent since 1994, but approx. 50 years of trusteeship leaves its marks.
