For me it's:
cost of living (would rather be one of the richest guys in a less affluent place than one of the poorest guys in an affluent one)
walkability (hate having to get in the car to do anything)
food (lots of good choices for shopping and dining out)
public transit (dovetails with walkability)
immigrants (dovetails with food - immigrants generally are a source for cheap delicious things, so I want to be near where they are)
