The best time I had in New York City was when I went on one of those double decker bus tours all around the city.

When I started to take the train and all that stuff it sort of sucked.

Would like to meet up with a friend in Manhattan for a day before she comes back down to her home. Aside from driving what's a good mode of transport from around the DC area to there?

Depends a little on how much lead time you have. The train (Amtrak) is nice, but it's kind of expensive if you can't book a month in advance.

Got a little jolly planned with some lads round New York for next year
We were all wondering, how easy is it for British guys to get girls from New York
Because we did places like Alabama and San Francisco and women loved our accents there

But will the multi cultural aspects of New York make us less of a novelty and just some guys

We have like bi-yearly trips to America, one of the guy's family lives in Alabama so we thought easy accommodation

We just heard that it was much harder for a British guy in New York because there's like so much variety that you aren't unusual or different.

take the greyhound bus, it costs like 22 dollars each way if you book ahead of time

Do you even know anything about NYC? NYC hasn't been a "cesspool" since like the early 90s, and even then it had its perks.
