Hello Anons from Austria.
I am often visiting your country and like Tyrol the best. Which sights would you recommend? I have often been to Plansee, Innsbruck, and Ötztal.
I have heard that Achensee and the Mountains around it are quite nice!
I will be heading to Austria from Australia with my family at the end of the year.
We will be attending a Krampus parade but I wouldn't mind finding out about some hidden local gems...
Are there any suggestions?
We're not the yobbo type Aussie's, strictly upper middle class bogans.
Last time my wife and I were there we saw an orchestra but as I recall it must have been a holiday because 90% of the town we were in was closed.

If you are into wine I recommend the Wachau area:
http://www.austrianwine.com/our-wine/wine-growing-regions/niederoesterreich-lower-austria/wachau/
In that area you find https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggstein_Castle
and
Melk Abbey

worth a visit
as well as the town of
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%BCrnstein
The area is about one hour by car from Vienna and it's easy to rent a car in Vienna airport and spend a few days there.

Austria is known for its many family run hotels and B&B places in the price range of 50 - 100 Eur. You can find most of them on booking.com so it should be easy to plan an itinerary. Bring cash, some of them might not be able to process credit cards

You could also visit the Wachau valley by train from Vienna, or cruise the Danube on a day trip. Both are amazing vistas.
Visit Fucking, and take a selfie with the town sign.
