I'm going to Tenerife for a week in January to celebrate a family birthday.
I'm wondering, is there anything there worth seeing or doing except for just chilling at the beach/hotel?
I also wanna try surfing. Would that be possible? How would I go about doing that?
Any info and advice is appreciated!

give it time, threads often take days or even weeks to get replies

Huh, my last thread I posted this summer must have been a fast one then. Thanks for the heads up.

Depends on the subject matter. Specific things like this will take a while, general things more quick. Check back once and a while and bump if it hits more than somewhere around page 6.

been there twice and will go again. the nature is beautiful. rent a car, drive up the teide. the drive is amazing because you cross all kind of vegeation zones (dont know if its the right word..) and on top you have a really nice view, from over 3700m (pic related) and you will see an area that has a quarter of the size of spain. loro park is nice too, especially if you like birds. the orca show made me a little sad though. i will share some pics from my trip 2014.

No idea about surfing (sorry), but you should definitely go hiking.
The Masca gorge is an absolute highlight, but can be crowded - maybe not in January?
There's a nice short walk from a visitors centre on Teide with some stunning rock formations.
The Anaga mountains in the north are very beautiful.
Also, check out some of the small towns. You'll miss a lot if you just hang around at the beach!
Diving or snorkeling is good there, lots of sea creatures to see. Also, if you don't mind hiking for a couple of hours, check out Barranco del Infierno.

Walking the Masca vally is defiantly worth it.

Didn't think about snorkeling. Any place in particular I should go for that?
Barranco del Infierno looks interesting too. Thanks.
