Greetings, /trv/! I had a few quick questions for all the Swedes in the house (or anybody who's spent time in Sweden desu).

I'm visiting with mai husbando for the first time in a couple weeks. He's from Köping, so we're going to be staying with his parents for three weeks.

My question for you is, what kind of interesting things are worth seeing in Stockholm and Uppsala? I know it's going to be dark for most of the day. Will that affect what I can and can't experience? Do you have any cafe or restaurant suggestions in Stockholm? What is considered a must to experience in Sweden? Any tips for a first time traveler? I'm American btw and know a little Swedish, so language shouldn't really be an issue for the most part.

Usually, I'd just ask my husband but he grew up on a farm and spent most of his childhood indoors playing video games, so I'd appreciate any kind of help I can get.
>>
I'm from Uppsala, i'd recommend visiting both the castle and the the big church (Domkyrkan)

Best place to eat or "fika" is a cafe called Storken, fairly cheap compared to most other cafes in Uppsala. It's situated in the main walking street, which can also be pretty comfy to walk down, especially at this time.

If you like streetfood they have amazing falafel just right down Domkyrkan

How is the train/transportation service? We'll likely have a car but I feel like it'd be easier to just take trains and buses.

It oughta be "balcony is now a freezer".

Public transportation sucks ass in the winter as the trains somehow can't handle snow and cold anymore. Just part of the malaise that comes when a civilization is on the decline.
Since the huge price hike some years ago it's also prohibitively expensive.
The new ticket system also sucks shit. Clumsy, hard to understand and overly reliant on technology.
Bring mace if you are gonna be out after nightfall or you might get culturally enriched.

Check out the old town and the museum of natural history. The only things left of any value here are nature and pining for the good old days.

Yeah I hope I get to in my lifetime. Are you really "not sure" or are you just using that expression? Since the 90's we've offshored our manufacturing and defence and imported millions of hostile, low IQ welfare parasites, all in a time of dawning automation.

In the 60's and 70's most people didn't lock their cars or homes and rape/murder was basically unheard of. To the extent that we had any identity politics it was a largely tempered class-struggle. We had jobs and some measure of community and culture left.

If we don't have a revolution before 2030, it's over. That can be said about most of the west though.

But after leaving two big stinky shits in this thread I feel I should say let's not derail this thread further. :^)

Head to the Vasa museum. Really awesome preserved Ye olde sailing ship. I don't think you will find another Skansen so do that too. The rest I spent more time on my phone then the exhibits. This is coming from a guy who spent 2 full days nerding out at the British museum. There was I think the highlight was just walking around the archipelago. Swedes say their food is p average but I have developed a craving for it. Alot dishes are very French technique orientated but there's this fresh and clean flavour to it. It is unafraid to show you undesirable flavours and make it taste great without trying to hid it. It certainly changed how I cook professionally in Australia. Head to K25 in Stockholm. Usual food court for office people but my god. One of the best meal I had in Europe so far hands down.

I have a few Swedish friends from Kiruna all the way down to Skåne, some share the same opinions as other posters in the thread. Whilst some of it is true, every society has its problems. I can't agree with this defeatist mentality a lot of Swedes have developed. I find for dinner table conversations, it's best avoid the more political charged topics such as middle east migration. I feel Sweden is having some growing pains which means people have very polarising opinions about it. Tldr avoid the subject to keep the peace.

Go do outdoor stuff. Just do it. I regret not budgeting more time for the hiking.

Hope all this rambling helps

That projection was false and not relevant anymore, it predicted it to be way worse in 2016 than it actually is now

Some 15-20% nonwhite population and growing, with much higher birthrates (natives are below replacement). That's just growing pains though. Once we SMASH RACISM, tribalism and powergrabbing among the invaders will cease and we'll all get along peacefully and have multicultural block parties and share interesting ethnic recipes and have gainful employment for all with increasing productivity and sustainable development forever. All while the native population diminishes until the last Swede is born. We just have to "integrate them" to make sure they carry on "our values" of ethnomasochism, mob rule, homosex and trannyworship. Oh wait we aren't even pretending to make them conform culturally, only become a net positive economically because GDP is what truly matters.

Why do people think the tensions brought by multiculti/multiracialism is a phase? Alternatively, if they genuinely believe in merging with an invading culture and race, why are they fine with their great great grandkids becoming rootless mutts? Myopia at best, treason at worst, it's so incredibly enraging.

And that's axiomatically bad?
Waaaah, everyone I don't like is /pol/!

Stay home, we don't want you here. Bring over your boyfriend too. Fucking a United Statesian is basically rassenschande.

This is a travel board. I asked for interesting sights and points of interest, not white people who are afraid of immigrants.

No worries senpai. If you looking for Swedish things to bring back, get some kalles kavier but I think you can get it internationally through your local ikea. Make some of your friends gag for your own pleasure. It really goes back to Scandinavian cooking style thing. Imagine if someone left fish out for too long and served it. Somehow it workes tho cause the smokey flavour compliments it. I've even started using in my sauces as an flavouring agent. Another thing is reindeer jerky. A traditional Sami people (native people of northern Sweden) food. It's alright but just tastes like chewy beef.

Try head up north. The area around Abisko is really lords of the rings New Zealand good. If you have any interest in /out/, go do the northern part of the kungsleden thru trail. The last wilderness of Europe does pull it's weight.

When I went to Stockholm I enjoyed walking around both Gamla stan and Södermalm.

Also take the T-Bana (Metro). And stop at a lot of the stations. Especially Rådhuset. They're pretty much all fucking incredible.

Yes, I also recommend Vasa museet and Skansen.

>>1192073
I haven't been to Kiruna or Abisko, but Gällivare and Porjus are pretty nice.

>>1191695
public transportation is very unreliable during winter

>>1192073
Husbando had me try Kalles Kaviar. Not particularly a fan of it. I wanna try surströmming because I've been told that it's just funky smelling fish, which I'm fine with because I grew up eating funky smelling fish.

>>1192091
Any eateries in Gamla Stan that you'd recommend? I like pastries so any place that has a good selection of them would be great.
>>
>>1192243
Unfortunately I don't think I ate there except for going to a bar with some friends at night. I was pretty underwhelmed with the food in Stockholm.

However, I can HIGHLY recommend the restaurant/cafe Älskade Traditioner in Södermalm. Incredible waffles and other delicious food. Truly delicious - you should definitely go.
>>
>>1192243
Gamla Stan is a huge tourist trap. It's nice to walk around but to spend money there is a bit silly. I wouldn't really know any dinner options since all my dinners were home made meals with my friend. Or I was on the trail eating various delicious food in a tube. I find Sweden doesn't really have a huge dining scene and more focused on cooking at home.

Denmark was absolutely amazing for that. The one meal i budgeted at a nice restaurant with my backpacker budget was absolutely top notch. There's a reason why it's called the culinary capital. Getting off topic but anyway.

A great source of information for an overview of Sweden is the munchies guide to Sweden. One of the few series that vice made that didn't turn full retarded with the edgy hipster shit. They also did an episode about Malmö in which they explore the current political situation with immigration. Also one on pastries :^)
>>
Well, I hope your husband isn't from another part of Köping.
>>
>>1191689
Anything in particular you're interested to see/do?

Södermalm is worth exploring, lots of small shops and cafes/bars.
>>
>>1192292
I'll check out the Munchies videos while I get the chance. Thanks, anon.

>>1192475
I like museums, so I'll likely visit the Vasa Museum and Skansen. I also like wildlife, so hopefully I get to see some of that. I live in Los Angeles and don't really visit the snow often so we'll probably go skiing (or maybe just sledding bc I sprained my ankle a few weeks ago and it's still swollen.) My husband wants to take me on some kind of train tour, but idk what that entails. We'll be there for three weeks so I've just been making a list of things we could do.
>>
>>1192292
UPDATE: I'm watching the first episode of the Munchies guide to Sweden and holy shit, lobster is 7.95kr/kilo? That's un-fucking-believable
