Google locked me out of my email.

Not exactly a life and death situation, but the only way to unlock it was to either use a phone that didn't work in the country I was in, or go back to my home country to unlock it.

I have a new email now. Thanks, Google.

Eh, nothing too horrible yet.

Forgot my debit card in the train ticket machine in Berlin so I had to live off of the money I had for a few days, which was made worse from the fact that I got fined the next day.
The last day I had 4 bucks and ended up looking for the 20 cents to buy a McDonald's meal.

Got hit by a car on a bicycle trip from Germany to Ireland last year. Knee crippled, trip aborted.

I was very popular with the nurses in the hospital though fwiw.

My month long trip in Turkey was eventful, to say the least:

- Saw someone shot with a shotgun in broad daylight
- There was a riot in Istanbul so tear gas and rubber bullets were used whilst I was there.
- I was chased by criminals because a new friend accidentally lead me to them, and we both had to run out of there.

I've had other situations throughout the years:
- I once saved a drunken Australian's life because he fell down an open elevator shaft. I helped him get to safety.
- I've been stabbed and threatened with a gun
- I once went on a date with a dude, thinking that he was a woman. I'd seen him/it on the street walking, and I introduced myself, we went for coffee immediately. After the instant "date" he messaged me and told me he quite enjoyed his time with me, but he had to let me know that he was trans, and wanted to know if that was a dealbreaker for me.
- Been stranded on a ferry for over a day, horrible storm rocked the boat like crazy.
- I once walked in Santorini and a huge storm hit me, the roads flooded up to my knees. So I took refuge in someone's half built basement. After the storm, the owner saw me come out of his basement and he chased me out of his property with a pair of garden shears.

Those are a couple of things that have happened over the last three years. All in all it's been quite fun hahaha.
>>
I went to Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Austria earlier this year and took some absolutely incredible photos of the alps and all the unique places of the region. It was my first time in Europe, and I didn't upload anything on a cloud. Right when I entered the gates in Frankfurt, that's when I realised I left my fucking phone on the bus I took to get there. It also had most of my other pics from other trips I went on in the states

I contacted the company, used Google to look for the phone's location, but It was no use b/c it was on airplane mode and was dying on my way to the airport. Lost fucking everything, was crushed, always leave location on now
>>
Got mugged a few times but I always carry a wallet with only a little cash so no big deal.

Was in an Airplane and the pilot forgot to refill the tank so we had to return after a few minutes.

Although the one that still felt the worst was sitting next to a passenger in the plane who would always vomit in the aisle. On a 13 hour flight.
>>

>Although the one that still felt the worst was sitting next to a passenger in the plane who would always vomit in the aisle. On a 13 hour flight.
Was on a 14 hour flight from JFK to Tel Aviv with two issues.
1) Guy broke his leg or hip or something walking past the galley, dunno if he slipped or tripped, but he was writhing and moaning in pain the rest of the flight.
2) Two rows behind me a center seat woman probably forgot some psych meds and was spitting and kicking, and swearing obscenities under her breath. They eventually moved her to the coach bulkhead by the galley, taped down her ankles to the chair, but she still had seatmates that had to hear and share armrests. She was spitting on people :(

Worst travel experience was probably clear air turbulence during a long ago flight. I'm sure we dropped 10k feet, the plane screamed and whistled at the fast descent. Not even in a storm. It was bad when all the glassware was glass still, and hit the ceiling and back down again. I pretty much hold my glass with one hand whenever I have a tray on my table ever since. And, that habit has definitely saved my clothes when turbulence starts. Last time I had some really bad bumping, the people with me up in First were spread out 2 to a row, some kind of 3 man business entourage who split up for room after takeoff. They had laptops out, and using the second seats for their trays while contunuing to work. All of them got drinks and food all over their computers, and I was like, oh here we go, and downed my drink in a single sip and held onto the tray about an inch above the table. The thing with bad turbulence, is they don't clear your meals, they sit down and buckle up, so you're on your own at your seat. :P

Was hiking/camping on a peninsula in Albania on my own. Got in the middle of a smuggling between mafia and the local army. It happened in the middle of the night. Fled my tent to hide in the mountains and observe them looking for me from a distance.

Albania is great though, just avoid Karaburun peninsula.

Went on a family trip to Thailand in '04. Went to Phuket for a few days before we departed for Koh Phangan (older brother wanted to party). Did a visa run to Hat Yai, Thailand. This was a gray and barren city because of the bombings. Didn't have much money.and wanted to stretch it out, so after watching a soccer game with local kids I pushed these two heavy concrete benches toghether at the edge of the field. It was hot and muggy, but I still wrapped up tight because of mosquitos. Anyways, too hot to sleep, so I lay there, all of a sudden, I hear, foot steps approaching, I throw off my blanket, its a local youth. He makes a motion to sleep next to me. Uhh no thanks. I was worried that this street urchin might steal what little I had left. He walks away. An hour goes by, again I hear footsteps. I unwrap again and peer over the edge of the bench. This time its an older gent, probably 40's. He walks off. I wrap up again, try to sleep, its just cool enough to sleep now. Footsteps again, awww, wtf? This time the old dude peers over the bench, our eyes meet, sir, I am the police chief, its not safe to sleep here due to the bombings, would you like to sleep in the jail? Visions of brokedown palace dance through my head...Uhhh ty, but I will rough it here. He was nice and said that he would check on me the rest of the night. I slept good after that.

Was on a return flight from the US to Johannesburg. However we needed to land in Senegal to refuel. Once on the ground we were notified that there was something wrong with the navigation equipment and that they will attempt to reboot it. Naturally we weren't allowed to depart the plane.

4 hours go by and still nothing. Eventually they ask us to depart the plane and sit in a secure lobby. At the time Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport was a dingy shitty little airport and it's secure lobby was a windowless conference room with a couple of chairs.

2 hours pass and the airline staff tell us that we have no choice but to wait for the next flight to come. So they tell us they will book us all in a resort since there are no hotels available in the city. The resort is 3 hours outside the city. The drive to the resort was long and arduous. All along the road the city looked like a war zone, with broken down and undeveloped buildings. Outside the city just looks like a barren wasteland.

The resort itself was nice enough though. Sea-side property with rondavels we had to share with another passenger. They told just not to leave the property as you will get hassled by scammers. I had lunch, took a shower, walked around a bit, went to get dinner and then went back to get some sleep.

Then at 2am, the other passenger I was sharing the rondavel with wakes me up and tells me they are taking us back to the airport. So it was a mad dash to get up and board the bus. I just happened to take the bus with a bunch of teenage christian missionaries. So it was a long drive back with a bunch of annoying teenagers and one South African dude who wouldn't shut the fuck up trying to impress them.

However once we got to into the city; the shuttle bus driver stopped on the side of the road and got on his phone. It's after 3:30am and we're in the middle of the slums of the city with no idea on what's happening. Asking the driver yields no results as he seemingly cant answer. (1/2)

We begin to notice that people have started to gather from the darkness around the shuttle bus. Those of us in the shuttle bus were starting to get anxious eventually to the point where they were screaming at the driver on what's going on. Eventually the driver spoke in broken english that somebody forgot their camera back at the resort. We all told him that unless it's their passport they can go fuck themselves and to get us to the airport. The driver realizing their was about to be a revolt in the bus, kick into high gear just before the crowd outside the bus was blocking our way.

We eventually got to the airport and was told to wait in the lobby again. By 5am they finally started handing out our replacement tickets. Naturally the person who is handing it out cant speak a lick of english. Eventually one of those Afrikaner aunties grabs the tickets from him and reads them out in a quicker manner. We are escorted to the gate area of the airport. We're not allowed to leave, not given any provisions and little to no information on our flight. Hungry and thirsty? Tough luck.

6am. 7am. 8am. 9am and they eventually tell us we can start boarding the plane. It was the same plane we came in with however, but they porpoised the navigation equipment was fixed. Very re-assuring. By 10:30am (and 24hours later) we were back in the air on our 8 hour flight to Johannesburg.

Longest and most drawn out stop gap I ever had. I've opted to never to go that route ever again. I hear Dakar is looking better these days, but when I was there is mostly looked like pic related.

Same happened to me with Outlook, only it was easy enough to unlock, thankfully. Weird thing was, I had been traveling for two months straight to some semi-off the beaten path locations, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Russia, Belarus, you get the idea, and then I was in Kiev and Outlook decided "nope, this is too suspicious" and locked me out.

Only had to get to a computer and then have them send me an SMS (which wouldn't have worked if it happened in e.g. Lebanon or Jordan, so it could have been worse), so it wasn't all bad, just found the timing to be rather odd.

I was arrested and jailed in rural China for 12 days.

I turned in a purse i found on the sidewalk to a public safety officer. Turns out it belonged to a govt official's wife. Combined with my poor Mandarin at the time, the officer thought I stole the bag and was turning myself in.

Only by the 10th day did they even bother communicating with me. No rights, no "phone calls to Embassy" etc.

I got trapped in a Cambodian elevator for ~60 hours. >/trv/ actually thinks that spending a few days in prison is 'danger' and they are 'hardcore'

What happened to this board? A few years ago we had threads where people posted entirely using the wifi connection in their cells in C'ot'eDIv'orian prisons. (note I used the correct punctuation).

In my opinion you have no experienced a nation without experiencing what it has to offer in terms of pain and suffering. I have experienced things that make a few days in a Chinese prison look like a walk through the Peruvian Alps.

>Spent 2 months on death row in Singapore for smuggling drugs. Was beaten savagely by Singaporean guards every day who only spoke Mandarin, preventing me from begging. Only got free by overpowering the guards (the purpose of my trip was to learn Singaporean Tiger Judo)

>Arrested for accidentally crossing the Demilitarised zone between Monaco and France. Got beaten half to death by French soldiers who thought I was a spy and only let me go when I spoke fluent French to them

>Was in Venezuela on the day the economy collapsed. Literally, the purpose of my trip was so sell toilet paper for my business. Got chased by an angry mob across Medellin. Only escaped by hiding in a Bidet Superstore where they wouldn't think to look

>Went on a backpacker train journey across the Bhutanese Steppe. Got kidnapped by a local who tried to sell me for ransom. Only let me go when he realised I am a minimalist and not worth cash.

>Spent 5 months in Saudi Arabia crossing the dessert alone. I am a woman. If I had been spotted without a man I'd have been executed. Had to hide behind Sand Dunes when the religious police (who don't represent Islam) did their patrols.

My 89 jeep cherokee overheated and started spilling coolant in 5 o clock traffic 30 mins outside of Vancouver BC. Phone had no service and there was no room to pull over on the shoulder. Traffic was slow enough that I was able to put it in neutral and push it when traffic moved, and then run into the can and slam on the brakes when traffic stopped. Did this for about 2 hours, going Probably a mile total. Was able to start the vehicle a couple times to cover longer distances but only briefly because the coolant would spill after a minute of running. It was a hot summer day.

It was actually kind of fun though. Aside from being sweaty and tired, canabros were all super friendly and nice and I was able to chat with people who were beside me when the traffic was stopped completely. Turned out they were doing construction on some tunnel.

I was able to pull my vehicle over for good and let it cool, put more coolant in it, and get back on the road. :3

Got pissed off/worried on black friday in Charleston when my girfriend and I split up when I went to pee after a meal and she went to a shop down the street. I couldn't find the shop she said she was going to and then my phone died, and it was getting dark. Fortunately we were in a safe area downtown with tons of wealthy people and cops walking around. Plus we had to drive 7 hours back to Orlando that night. I really didn't want to be seperated for hours and have to start driving home at midnight.

security and lost&found at paris cdg.....

security were reorganizing people's trays, making the person in front of me not notice his cap was in a different tray. he left without his cap, as security staffers didn't do shit about it, i ran after the guy with his cap.

and then i didn't notice that security took some of my electronics, including my phone, and put it in a different tray (it was all well spread out in the first place, whatever). they didn't tell me. and no one helped me. fuck them.

fast forward half an hour, i realize the situation on the plane.
submit the lost and found form right after landing.

cdg people don't reply anything in the 48 hrs they put on the website... i call them after a week "don't worry, i'm sure your stuff is here, we just don't respond as there's chaos"

calling them after a month "this is not america, this is a free service, leave us alone" like wut
what does this have to do with america? we're both in the eu...

i mean i gated cdg already for various other reasons, but i got a very good reminder.

bonus: my all inclusive insurance for the phone ran out in the meantime, so i won't be able to get funds for fixing the cover that i broke during the trip.

Just started my study abroad experience in Spain. On our first holiday, decided to take a flight to the Canary Islands. Landed, disembarked, waited for luggage. Luggage doesn't come.

Went to desk and they spend the next hour trying to find my bag. Supervisor comes down, looks at ticket, and says "You got off on the wrong island." It didn't occur to me that "Gran Canaria" was an island, and I assumed Tenerife was part of it. In any case, took a propeller flight to Tenerife Sur, and off to retrieve my bag, and find out I again landed at the wrong airport. National holiday in Spain, no buses to Tenerife North, so $65 taxi ride later (In 1980 dollars), I have my luggage. Ended up slumming it for a week since I only had $45 left. Had a great time, though.

Mexico City is amazing I went over the summer for 2 weeks. Must have a Spanish speaker in your party, do not recommend solo travel. Took metro to Coyoacán at least 4-5 times it's a beautiful place. Churches are a big draw for me check out the two Basilicas. In general walk around the city. Must visit Tower Latinamericano to get view of entire city +1 for smogless days. Ay lmao.

Mexican here. That place is great, but if you're being shown around by someone who knows what he's doing, go to plaza Meave. You'll find a fuckton more deals than Frikiplaza. Just be careful and don't make it obvious that you're a foreigner, they'll charge you triple.

Other than that, I recommend that since you're already downtown, to take the entire tour. There's a whole lot of history downtown.

If you liked Coyoacán also take the time to go to San Angel. A bit more upscale, but take a stroll there in Saturday. Great restaurants and lively places where you can stop and eat.

And again, don't make it obvious you're not mexican. Granted, not being brown is already a handicap, but if your spanish is shit let someone else do the talking and that should save you some money. Have fun.

Well, let me fill you on what you missed. They lead you to a couch and ask if you want something to drink, introduce you to several women. Now, they say, how about a drink? Ok, they bring you a drink. Anon, how about the ladies? Oh, sure. Well, lets save some money and buy a bottle of liquor. Sounds good. a couple of rounds, bottles empty. well, let the party go on, a couple of 5000 yen later, pretty soon. Oh shit, I'm drunk. Now to be honest, they didn't roll me or anything, but I jumped into a taxi and got to my hotel. Yeah, I'm sure thats all you'll have gotten, a good hangover, anyways thats all I got, and it was near that area.

I did a bit of traveling after my wife left me. Now for some reason, even though she cheated on me and asked for a divorce, she was bitter and saw it as her responsibility to fuck me over whenever possible.

Obviosly after over 5 years of marriage she knew all of my details, so my guess is she somehow got around password recovery bullshit and got into my email. Maybe she knew my password, but I dont know because I dont believe she knew it before and it was random letters/numbers so it is unlikely she could have guessed.

Basically while I was in Sri Lanka she changed the email associated with my booking so I wouldnt recieve updates, then cancelled my flights home. I didn't even know she knew I was there, so I was shocked to recieve a picture message from her of an email from me requesting cancellation. My flight was uninsured because I was 100% sure I would be on it, so that was money down the drain. I went to the airport almost immediately as I was going to leave that day anyway and I had hoped I could sort things out within the extra 5 hours. Obviously they couldnt replace my ticket because its not their fault (and i didnt expect them to, its not their responsibility to clean up after my psycho ex) I couldnt get on another flight that day and flights within the next 2 days were crazy expensive. I ended up having to pay like 3x my original round trip tickrt cost for a one way so I could get back home in time to not lose my fucking job.

Bitches be crazy.

in Mumbai i tried to buy heroin and got what i think was scopalamine instead, the dealers were in cahoots with my hotel, who was in cahoots with the police, and so after drugging me and taking all my cash and valuables (honestly not that much, probably $150 and an ipad, camera, stuff like that) i woke up in the police station drugged as fuck

missed my flight (got my passport back from the thieving fucking hotel), spent 2 days in mumbai arrivals lounge until i could get a western union, then since i overstayed my visa i had to get a special emergency visa

this is where it gets nuts

so apparently the police thought that when i went to the embassy i ratted on them for robbing me (i didn't, i just wanted to get the necessary paperwork and leave) so they had me tailed for the 4 days before i managed to leave and then on my last night in town attempted to kidnap me

as in, a jeep full of cops pulled up and said, 'get in' and when they opened the back door i booked it across 8 lanes of traffic and got away

fuck that shit man

I had a few close calls, and bad lucks:

- When I was studying in another city, I would take a train home every saturday morning. One time I decided to leave a bit earlier to have breakfast and chat with ex-colleagues at the McD next to the train station (I used to flip burgers to pay for my studies). A crazy dude rampaged the streets, including the one I was supposed to take, at the time I would normally have taken it, killing passer-bys with a rifle. A schoolmate's dad was killed. I should have been there.

- Sick with a fever and sore throats for days in Hunan, China. Went to see a rural doc who gave me a handful of colored pills wrapped in paper, didn't dare to take them. When it really got worse (couldn't even swallow my own saliva, hadn't eaten for days), I used my last strength to take a bus to the border and cross it to HK, went to a hospital, was diagnosed with a tonsil abcess and offered between a shot of antibiotics and a follow up 3 days later, or to be an in-patient and undergo further testing. I was too exhausted to leave, so I asked to be hospitalized. Turned out I had developped blood infection, and it was resistant to the antibiotics they would have given me otherwise.

- My luggage got lost by the airline on a 4 days trip to China, had to get by with my set of clothes for the whole stay. A typhoon broke by the last day, the Streets were flooded including the highway to the Airport, I did the last 3km on the back of a ricksaw wheels deep in Brown water, with only my initial set of clothes plus a T shirt and fukboi blue jean I managed to find in a chinese dept store.

- Attempted jetski scam in Thailand

That's pretty much all I remember now.

Speaking of Chinese, trying to leave from Pudong is always like hoping if I shoot myself in the face, it won't be so painful this time.

Cheap flights all over Asia, nice enough airport, but so far two out of three times I've been stuck on the tarmac for over 5 hours (on a flight that was only an hour and a half).

Protip: if you ever want to fly out from a big Chinese city (see; Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou) fly early in the morning or have fun sitting through a 4+ hour delay
>>
>>1193289
Wow. I guess Changsha would have a proper hospital, but you're better off with HK. That was close. Did it ever turn out what the rural doc gave you?

>>1193300
Idk about Beijing, but Shanghai and Hangzhou, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are pretty close... So if someone doesn't specifically want to go to Shanghai and Guangzhou, I always tell them to go to the "smaller" airport, flights are cheaper there anyway.

Got accused of a fake visa when I entered Russia. Long story short it got fixed after I begged them to look it up and confirm it wasn't. I was right.

Lost my immigration paper when I got to Russia. Needed to fly back to Moscow the next day to get one. Host brother met me there and spent like 5 hours begging for one. Caught a cold but we smoked and drank at the park at 5am afterwards so it wasn't all bad.

Got detained in the metro because I guess I looked like a Chechen. Police asked why I was a shit at speaking Russian with a Russian student to which I said "I like beer and girls more than homework" and they let me go.

Overall, nothing too bad.
>>
>>1193306
Let state for the record that I'm stupid, and was lightly drunk from lunch when I typed, I wasnt in Hunan but Humen, which is closer to HK than Hunan. Anyway.
> Did it ever turn out what the rural doc gave you?

Unfortunately I lost them in the process,
I took a pic to joke about it when I was in the early stages of sickness (used them as my Messenger pic, this was in 2004 and I didn't even know about Facebook).
The whole thing was a bit scary tho, the doctor had her practice in her own house, a one room concrete block next to the factory I was staying in for work. She made me sit on her beaten up bed, reached for a weak, fake maglite to check on my throat (her house was fucking dark) and just said what was translated to "you have fire". She then proceed to a wooden drawer, and picked some pills that she wrapped in parchment paper, hershey's kisses style.
Paid Something like 20RMB for the whole thing.
It was way more costly in HK tho lol.
>>
>>1193366
Eh, rural medicine is rough but I actually got sick in China just last week. Went to the hospital, paid 17RMB for registration, 58RMB for three prescriptions from the pharmacy, felt better in a few days.

Where are you originally from? I guess I was just surprised because the hospital in China was very no bullshit. I said ear infection, they sent me to the ear specialist, he said "Yep it's fucked, take these" and I was on my way for <15 bucks

Sure beats having Xrays, blood work, and a host of other unnecessary shit and then getting a bill for insurance where you see what they charged.

Anyways glad you found treatment in HK anon!

Had some muslim refugee fuckboy try to have me jumped in London or at least im pretty sure that was what happened.

Was walking back to the hostlel at like 3am from a pubcrawl and was mega hungry so i wandered around lost until i found a kebab shop. Literally the best kebab of my life holy fuck it was so good. So im hammered and trudging down the street eating my thicc kebab in my drunken stupor until i come upon one dim, mostly deserted street in god knows what part of london.

As i start going down this stretch of road, i see some dude leaning against a car start yelling up to a guy in a 2nd story window and then gesture towards me. Then hes just standing there sorta looking at me. I am very drunk and too focused on my food so nothing really clicks in my head about this. As i walk past the guy is just staring at me so i say "whats up dude??" He replies nothing. As im looking at him a glob of fucking spit lands right infront of me - the brown fuck up in the the window is trying to spit on me. Im not really trying to deal with any shit so i just shake my head and keep walking, no harm no foul.

As my back is now to the guy on the ground, i hear him muttering and then hear him try to hawk a loogie at me. Obviously now im pretty annoyed so i turn around and he immedietly moves towards this open gate where its dark as fuck on the other side. He looks me dead in the eyes and does it again, cant reach me because he sucked at spitting. I take a step towards him like are you fucking serious, he again retreats towards the open gate but stops to make sure im following.

Im still eating my phat kebab, im trashed, so i just shrug my shoulders and walk away. Wrote it up as some asshole muslim trying to be tough.

In reality im 99% certain he was trying to lure me into that dark, isolated courtyard so him and his brown friends could pull knives on me and rob all my shit. Like he was intent on getting me to chase him into that dark courtyard. My kebab saved me.

I'm french, I was living in HK back then and traveled for days/weeks into China for work.

Hospital didn't seem like an option in the early stages, it was just a very sore throat so I didn't think twice about it.
When it got really bad (when I spent a night spitting in a towel and starting to have mild hallucinations) I basically had two options, try my luck in HK or be flown back to France. My boss reminded me I was more helpful in China so I went down the HK road.
I really felt like patient zero in Lowu, hoping the heat scanners wouldn't set up some alarm somewhere.
And you are totally right about the unnecessary fees. A doc would show at my bedfoot twice a day, look at my chart, ask me how I felt and leave. This was charged 200HKD each time. I had countless blood testing, a few scans and so on: 4 days at the hospital cost a bit over 2500 EUR.
But in the end the Company paid for it, and I was alive so it turned out OK for me lol. Thanks anyway

>>
>>1193419

NY. So its not like im dense and dont understand i need to watch myself. This was also central london.

The only reason (besides being trashed, tired, and stuffing my face) that i didnt really see a threat at first was because the dude on the street was a skinny little shit. Like the thought did cross my mind but quickly got nullified because i was confident i could crush the kid like a bug if i had to.

It wasnt even until the next day it occured to me that he wasnt being a pussy when he scurried to his dark courtyard, but rather wanted me to be pissed enough to follow him blindly to whoop his ass. I fucking KNOW there had to be dudes hiding in there with bricks and knives and shit, it all makes too much sense in hindsight.

Regardless i suppose i assumed somewhere like london couldnt possibly be worse than NYC, so i assumed since ive always been good back home that id be fine over in europe too. Quick and easy lesson to never let my guard down, even while trashed and having grease running down my fingers and face.

8 hour flight sat next to 2 butch lesbiums who should have had to buy a row to themselves, fucking each. I literally gave no fucks and spent the whole flight in the aisle leaning on my arm rest cussing both the dykes and any flight attendants who asked me to take my seat. got a refund for the round trip.

there was this one fit flight attendant who kept giving me the "lol I get it" look and bringing me beers.

but yeah it started as soon as they came and sat down right, get this. the fat slugs had to put up all the arm rests on the row just to kind of get into their seats. the smell was fucking awful. it was instant, i got up all "you're fucking joking, right?" they both looked confused to the first flight attendant i saw "fuck is this? where's my seat then?" clearly more than half of it was under this dyke's arse, flight attendant acts confused

fat people should have to pay for however many seats they actually need. they measure the dimensions of your luggage in check-in, why can't they identify someone who needs 2 or more seats? oh but then the fat rights activists will get their fee-fees huwt, right?

if i were in charge there would be different planes for different demographics. fat people, arabs and parents with young children should have their own separate planes.

I got caught in the middle of the Gezi Park protests in 2013. Almost had my head taken off by a tear gas canister, was peppered in the back with rubber bullets, and had to hide out in a big building in Tarlabaşı. All I'd done was take a walk down the street near Taksim when the police charged down a small hill towards a half-dozen people waving flags in the middle of a busy intersection. They shattered a bunch of residential and car windows, blasted an old man in the face with a tear gas canister (he had to get picked up and carried away by several strangers), and were just reacting with completely disproportionate force.

Unfortunately, the building I chose to run into was also the headquarters of the Socialist Democracy Party, who were the ones who had been protesting at the corner. I didn't realize what was up until I looked around me and saw pictures of Lenin and Marx on the walls. Spent half an hour in their flat while the police were trying to break down the door.

They got pissed when I told them I was an American, so I pretended to be a communist (I was a communist as a teenager, so it wasn't a hard act to pull off). Some 15-year old kid asked me if I wanted a blowjob. Was really fucking weird. They warmed to me after a while and assigned the one English-speaking guy in their group to take me around and make sure I stayed safe while being able to see what was going on (I hadn't asked to do that, of course).

By the time the protests really picked up, it was necessary to wear some kind of eye and mouth protection anywhere within the vicinity of Taksim Square, due to all the tear gas and pepper spray in the air (my hostel was a two-minute walk from Taksim). I ended up following along and taking a ton of pictures.

Once when I was sailing in the Abacos (Bimini if memory serves me correct), with my grandfather and mother (I was around 14) this guy with a speech disorder came up to my mother, he basically couldn't talk, and the extent of his communication was basically grunting. Anyhow, he leads me and my mother to this bathroom stall and starts pointing at it while grunting, at this point I'm rather unsure as to his intentions, as is my mother, and we quickly get out of there.

Getting in a rideshare with a shitty 63 bronco from Seattle, WA - Omaha, NE

Car was crap, no heating, no seatbelts, manual windshield wipers, but the driver knew it like the back of his hand, plus had army training so he knew what he was doing.

>3 day trip
>get caught in a blizzard in Wyoming
>car is top heavy af, we spin out a few times
>actually backwards on the freeway at one point
>thankfully driver knows his shit and we make it out safe
>stuck in Rawlins, WY for the night
>meet some friendly black people in a diner going to Denver
>they're from Fresno, and clearly don't know how to drive in snow
>but they're driving in a brand new bimmer with heat and safety and all that
>make up my mind that I'd rather go with the safer driver than in the safer car

After more delays and sleeping in a barracks in Laramie we finally get out on the road. We pass Cheyenne (last city before Nebraska) and the driver (who had to stay up all night with the car running to make sure it didn't freeze over says he needs to pull over because he's hallucinating.

We nap for about an hour and get back on the road, and not five minutes later get stuck in traffic. As soon as we stop, a truck hit it's breaks and the trailer comes drifting out towards the front of the car, just narrowly avoiding us by a few feet. Driver and I both get out to start shoveling snow that's piling up around the car.

Highway patrol finally leads us onto the other side of the highway, slowly driving past the 20 car pileup that took place. Read in the news next day that 6 people killed, and among the wreckage was that bimmer containing those 4 people from Fresno. Had I gone with them it might have cost me my life.

Pic related is the pileup

One of them decided to sucker punch me instead. One of his friends tried to do the same with a lot more force, I was sober enough to dodge it and got into a fighting stance at which point they backed off/hesitated enough for us to get away. There were at least four of them and I was sure we were both about to take a serious ass kicking.

Just happened to me this Christmas season. I was a dumb hotheaded American.

Drove in New Zealand with my buddies.

Go through a roundabout. Some dude breaks and honks his horn. I flip him off. Few minutes later he gets ahead and break checks me. Gets outta the car.
>Oh shit
I get outta the car.
>Middle.of the road.
>Cars behind us watching.
>Big Maori guy.
"Aye mate ya gave me da finga"
You honked at me
"Ya din't use ya indicators."
???what are indicators???
'Points to my blinkers"
Ah i didn't know i was supposed to use them in the roundabouts. I use them for every other turn.

Situation is diffused at this point. I spoke calm the whole time but damn i was really fucking angry inside. Thought we'd fight.

Then he gets back in his car. I get back in mine. We both drive away.

I was really pissed off about the whole situation. Couldn't calm down for a bit.

Point of the story is "use ya fuckin indicators" for everything in New Zealand.

I ran out of cash in Cuba (Americlap here)

The exit tax at the airport (payable in cash) was literally the exact amount of cash I had on hand

That was a really stupid move on my part but I was young and invincible. When I landed in Mexico I promptly overdrew my checking account by $200 so I could get to a place where some friends lived, and stay there until my parents could wire me cash to get home (they were not pleased)
>>
>>1184100
I once didn't have enough money or space for all the things I wanted to buy.

It was horrible.
>>
>>1197539
>Americans call indicators "blinkers"
>Americans don't use them on a roundabout and expect people to just understand where they're going
>>
>>1198159
They blink. Therefore, they are blinkers, like any other light that blinks. You want to get into a car terminology fight, then I'll throw down 'boot'.

And using blinkers in a roundabout is fucking stupid. It's a roundabout, every single car is going to turn the same direction, and they're useless for determining which exit you'll take since even a 4 direction one is going to take you past a turnoff every couple seconds.

On the plus side, I now know that things called "trafficators" used to exist.

>>1197539
>Some dude breaks
Was he okay?
>>
>>1187089
yeah, well. Sorry, we can't be as cool as you are, dude.
>>
>>1198159
Canadian here.

We don't use "indicators" when entering a roundabout, only for exiting. And this is the legal requirement.

And we usually call them "turn signals."
>>
>>1198159
I use them for everything but roundabouts. I call them blinkers or turn signals as do every other American.

>>1198174
He was fine. But i nearly hit him because he sped ahead of me. Then slammed on his breaks on purpose to get my attention.

Eventually a qt EMT girl who spoke English came and translated for me. They shot me up with the necessary drugs, I waited around for a while then left.

Closest call was getting off a plane and being lost in Cairo at 3am not knowing where my apartment is. One month later, I saw ISIS beheading a Czech man that they kidnapped off the streets of Cairo on that night.

Crashed my motorbike in Thailand.

Watching the Mekong in Phnom Pen at night, two guys walk up behind me and stand over me. I get up to leave and they follow up into a pitch black alley. They seem to have left when four rabid dogs come running out of an apartment and nip at my ankles.

Walking around with some faggot Brit in Barcelona who hints to his friend "let's beat this kid up for no reason", his friend is like "nah".

Pimp in Tijuana tries to make me do meth, gets pissed when I try to leave and stands in front of the door. I just pushed him out of the way and walked to the hotel.

More stupidity than anything:

Drunk and lost in Amsterdam RLD. 10 euros left on my person, ask hooker for directions to get back to hostel. Asks me in for her services, tell her I only have a 10 left so no. Drags me in, whips down my jeans then goes through my wallet, won't hand it back when I pull up my jeans, opens it and sees there is only a ten and starts going into a rage and rant, takes my ten and tells me to gtfo.

>Bad enough to post but not bad enough to brag about:
I got Level 7/10 influenza on the train from Ankara to Izmir in Turkey. The English-speaking tourism office at the Ankara station had posted hours and was supposed to be open several days per week. I stopped by on more than one occasion - the lights were on but the doors were locked. I managed to book an overnight ticket some notes and phonetics that I grabbed while on the hostel wifi...but it turned out that I only reserved a seat i the cheapest car rather than an proper bunk.

The train was 4-5hr slower than scheduled and numerous old men had terrible coughs in the seats-only coach. When I got to Izmir the hostel owner tried to tell me I was mistaken about the journey time and condition. They gave me some bread and tea and a loud cunty art student from New York was then trying to fuck a 2.0m Texan whose laptop had been locked down by Bitcoin ransomware.

They went out, drank vodka and she jumped on his dick for about 5-10 minutes in an empty double bedroom; I was wretching in the bathroom and heard giggling. As I had only reserved a bunch a bunk in the communal bedroom, a very strange 20-something from Manchester, England brought me 5L of water and some oranges. I had a fever for 4-5 days and lost 4kg but thankfully no one else got sick.

The last week of that trip was mostly a loss but there are some cute photos of the hostel kitten sleeping on my chest. Also, Turkey is nice except for the public transportation and fundamentalists.

>I realize he is about to do something bad

>make fake phone call to boss to tell her where I am going, actually phone had no money
>he brings down a side street near the airport
>blacked out hotel
>gravel drive way
>heart is pounding
>we walk in, they say no foreigners can stay here
>unless i pay for a prostitute
>owner pulls up in Merc G wagon and pulls a girl out of room, locked from the outiside
>she looks 15, worn dorn, humilated>
>You like?
>No
>then you have to leave
> I had prepaid like a dumbass
>driver still sweating bullets.
>I want my money back so I light a cig and pretend to sleep on lobby couch
>owner starts yelling for me to leave
>driver takes me to the termal 8 hours before my plane leaves great, no hotel
>police everywhere
>"I'm not getting out untill you give the money"
>He begs me to leave the car
>I'm not getting out

Nothing ever happened to me. There were some weird situations though

>Japan: Some guy comes up to me in a residential area how I am and if I want to have a drink he sells drinks down some alley. Thought it was weird as fuck and he continued following me so I literally ran away and jumped in some persons private house and hid in the garden for 30 minutes.

>Medellin: I ask a black guy in a joking manner that he should let me pass in the subway and when he didn't I just rammed him to the side. He was pretty ripped and shouted at me and kept following me but I just walked to a police officer.

But in general I never had problems. I traveled all over South America on my own and not one person got in my face trying to mug me. Think its a bit weird as I don't look very intimidating. Guess being paranoid all the time helps eh?

>Start calling for help
>Two backpackers across the street walking by
>They don't even stop to look
>Thrash as hard as I can
>Drop me on the ground as one of them fumbles with a ziptie
>One guy coming towards me
>Call out
>He has headphones on
>Think he's going to walk right by
>Looks up at the last minute
>Takes off his headphones and starts to ask what's going on
>One of the guys approaches him
>Straightens up and stops slouching
>Built like a tank, 6'3
>Try to get up
>By the time I look back the attacker is on the ground moaning and screaming, clutching his back
>Other attacker pulls a knife
>The guy grapples him before slowly bending his arm backwards
>The guy drops the knife but he keeps going
>Dislocates the arm and chokes him out
>Sits with me as we wait for the police
>Has bottles of beer in his backpack
>Introduce ourselves
>Share a drink until a paramedic snatches it away
>Saviour has to go home after giving a statement

All in all, just some bruising on my part, while one of the attackers has permanent nerve damage.

Kidnapping in Australia? Weird thought it was safe. Ever find out what they were planning on doing to you?
>>
>>1200311
Yeah so I rent a jetski while on a day trip to a neighboring island, during a stay in Pattaya.
I'm no expert but I've rode some before, this one just tilts at the first turn and starts sinking (!).
One of the rental fuckbois comes to us on another jetski, hauls us back while a second dude recovers our jetski.
They start yelling at us, we broke their machine and we need to pay them some insanely high amount to cover the damage.

I play it "no problems dudes, I have a bank card that comes with insurances, we'll sort it out. We'll just make the paperworks and after they check the damages we've done, you'll be refunded don't worry".
They say they want to solve it quick and agree to settle for an amount like 20 or 25 times smaller.
I keep pushing my luck "Well I don't travel with cash, any ATM on the island tho?" They said no, but their "friend" will come back to Pattaya with me and he'll collect the money.
Obviously I would never take a chance to withdraw money with a thai con next to me, so while I befriended him during the trip back, I told my wife to go and wait for me next to the exit as to be the first to hop off. When the boat reaches the dock, I ask my thai friend to meet me at the door, I just need to track my wife down, then I run and push thru all the tourists that were already queueing, we jump off as the gate opens and run like crazy to our hotel nearby.

Felt intense at that moment.
>>
>>1200281
How did you find the black taxi? Did someone call it for you or did you follow someone who offered?

In general black taxis can be okay but only if you negotiate a price beforehand. I got into Hongqiao Railway Station about 10pm last month and the taxi queue was over two hours long so I just black cabbed it for like 70 kuai. Not bad to save the two hours of waiting.

Still your experience sounds surreal, you handled that well, not sure what I would have done desu.

>no one's listening to me, and I have the willpower of a 12-year old (because I was 12 years old)
>brown liquid starts dripping down my leg
>become an honorary Indian at this point
>now, shitting in public is something you don't do in a proper and orderly society like Japan's
>and it's not something you want to do in front of your strict grandma
>and your mom, who can't be bothered to put up with you, certainly doesn't want to put up with any additional shit, this time quite literally, I might add
>mom starts yelling at me about how I'm an embarrassment to her
>this makes me cry
>then she starts slapping me for being a crying & shitting mess
>for the rest of the stay in Japan, she started drinking at every meal
>all because a child with minimal supervision in a foreign country took a shit on himself
I'm surprised that I wasn't kidnapped. If I were, then maybe they would've at least taught me Japanese and I would've been able to find a bathroom.

I have been to Japan twice as an adult, and the first thing I did was learn how to say "Where is the bathroom?" Because never again. For that matter, that is the first thing I will try to learn in any language before I travel.
