Does anyone else have a travelling playlist. Songs that remind you of specific cities or a place you were. Some albums bring a tear to my eye when i reminisce about experiences or people i've met. I'll start if anyone's interested.
Fleet Foxes-Fleet Foxes the whole album reminds me of my time in Indonesia when i hear it.

Can anyone else confirm this phenomenon.

Can confirm. I'm a musician, so I've traveled both to make records and toured in support of them. I don't sit around listening to stuff I've played on, but when I hear it I remember the studio it was recorded in and/or the tour in support of it. And the people involved. Very often I'm reminded of Japan and Australia, because those are two places I would probably never have made it to if it weren't for touring.

>>1184018
What kind of music do you make/supported if you don't mind me asking.
>>
>>1184019
Mostly variations on rock music. Sometimes leaning kind of garage rock, sometimes a little country, sometimes even synth heavy. I've even done what could be described as electric folk music. Been lucky enough to work with some good people. These days I don't travel as much because I'm doing more producing than playing. But it took me around the world a couple times. And I'm a little too old to still find living on a bus all that novel anyways.

I first heard Eddie Vedder's 'Into the Wild' soundtrack while hitchhiking down the Milford Road to see Milford Sound in New Zealand. The atmosphere in the valley was really surreal that morning.
The next day I hiked up along the Greenstone Track to the McKellar hut. I remember singing what I could remember from the album as it started to snow, my feet crunching in the ice to the rhythm of my singing.
Plus the album is about travel in the first place. I still get hardcore frisson when I close my eyes and listen to it.

Oh and when I was living in Wellington and way over my head in an office job doing data analysis, this other guy in my office helped me understand everything, and probably saved me from getting fired. Then I moved to another office and never saw him again. Only then did I discover he was a successful artist by night when he wasn't crunching numbers. This song is cozy af

I'll always remember this song

That's the song that was playing in those random airplane radio that you connect your headphones in, as the plane was about to land.

I was coming back from 2 weeks in Cuba, and managed to have sex with a few chicks and the girls over there wanted me. It was good

I first listened to this album flying home from a holiday in NZ and reminds me of walking around the Bay of Islands in the dark drunk. Aswell as Jack Johnson inbetween dreams.

I try to listen to music made in the city I'm in, trying to soak up what inspired the artist to make what they made. Usually it's albums I like. My favorite was listening to Slint's "Spiderland" in Louisville, KY. It was a really grey rainy day, depressing as hell, and I totally understand how living in that shithole would make me wanna create some gloomy strange shit like what they made.

Is the guy in the video the one from your office job? If so that is nuts as fuck.

>>1184130
I have heard a lot of these but not all thanks for the tunes! Home - Resonance has always been a song that reminds me of travel so i'm glad you posted it. Also love that Indonesian Band song man thanks

>>1184139
Usually i only connect to my ipod when i'm flying but i have heard this song before. Also congrats on Cuba, that has always been one of the places i wanted to go.

>>1184140
I'm checking this out and liking it so far!

>>1184162
Jack Johnsons where it's at

>>1184169
I'll have to try this. Listen to bands based in the city you're visiting. I really like gloomy, depressing songs so this album is shaping up to be of my liking.

I'll add more:
I usually listen to Animal Collective - My Girls whenever i'm on a plane and it's taking off. Idk why but the beat kind of sounds like it's increasing in altitude.

Also Neutral Milk Hotel - In the aeroplane over the sea but i'm sure anyone who's visited /mu/ knows this one

Yea sure, music is a strong memory provoking thing.

I like VNV Nation as a road trip playlist. EBM in general, and the happiness of synthpop and futurepop. On an airline, I like to visit old old playlists, stuff from the 80s and early 90s I've had in the ol' iPod for ages. Rock, indie, some dance stuff in there too. I only listen to these old playlists when traveling, so it's like part of the process.

If I have to listen to inflight entertainment to save battery time, I like to get some classical going if I'm reading. Or discover their new stuff. I was introduced to Sigor Ros on icelandair, and still enjoy them.

Listened to this while on Rhodes laying on the beach with my Ex. Makes me sad sometimes, but I still love it. Makes me want to travel.

You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon is one song that makes me want to throw some clothes in my backpack, grab my passport, spit in my boss' face, and hop on the next plane heading to somewhere exotic.
