Travelling to Oslo in February

Make sure to see some nature while youre there - if you're short on time you can even just take the subway to the last stop and walk right into the forest

Otherwise you may find it to be an obstacle that keeps you inside and you'll just get to know your hotel room very well

I am also travelling there around new year's. Any recommendations about things you could do around there outside the city? Also is it worth visiting bergen or stavanger for 3-4 days?

Go look at some epic nature, mountains and stuff. You can go skiing, for example. I wouldn't stay in Bergen or Stavanger more than one day, it's enough to see everything.
