Anyone been in the last 6 months or so? Been doing research into Canaima National Park but with the current situation I don't know whether to commit to serious planning for a trip that would take place in the next twelve months. As an America travel here requires a visa which I've also can take some time to process.

Word is that baggage is being robbed as a matter of course, even for connecting flights. There are food shortages. The police stop people with no pretense of a charge and demand heavy bribes - as opposed to the more usual system of trumped up charges with affordable bribes. Stickups are common.

I'm sure Venezuela has its merits, but give it a few years to simmer down. It's no joke.

I'm Venezuelan, and you should stay away, the country it's just not safe.

And considering the level the parks and other stuff used to be like, you would be dissapointed with what you will encounter.

you need to only speak english at the hotel or if someone else speaks to you in english, and also don't walk around with a lot of money or your phone in your hand.
