I'm not insanely cautious-I typically stay in hotels, which typically have safes in the closet (or in a few rare cases, a lockbox behind the reception desk), so I'll put my passport and sometimes some electronics in there... If I don't have access to a safe, I'll just stash my passport in an inconspicuous place in my luggage in the room. Although my wife knows several people who've had things stolen from hotel rooms, it's never happened to me.

I keep my wallet in my pocket and my wits about me, as far as money goes (I'm seldom carrying a lot of cash). I have on a few occasions when traveling in places with bad reputations for robbery or pickpocketing (Mexico City, Nairobi, Central American cities, a few others) gone out with only the small amount of cash I needed for the evening, and locked my wallet and/or cards in the safe, and I'll sometimes have money in two places (shirt pocket and a trouser pocket). But I've only ever been robbed by police officers, so I think my very modest approach to safety is good enough.

Leave it in my room.

Is there a good way to preserve paper money in your socks or shoes while wearing them?
>>
>>1166948
Every thief on the streets knows about cash in socks/shoes. If you're getting mugged it won't help.

When I was in Cambodia and id be leaving the casinos with a lot of cash ( between 3-5k USD at times ) on hand I would always have a wallet with useless cards and about $40-50. I'd also stick $300 dollars in my socks as a last resort while hiding the rest in a small plastic bag inside my underwear.

Only time I was held up I handed over the wallet, they demanded I take off my shoes/sock and I gave them the $300 but they didn't pocket any of the actual cash.

probably a neckbeard living in mommy's basement and has never traveled.

You can get bedbugs in a 5star hotel. I caught them in a Las Vegas Casino hotel for example
>>
>>1166868

Well for one, dress like you don't have any money.

if they think you are holding, watch your back as they will come up from behind yoi and hit you over the head with a hammer if they think you are hiding anything

They frequently have street kid scouts hanging out at hostels that spread the word on what you have to be setup to be robbed.

I can't find any nu-male fashion stores. Where did you buy yours?
>>
just stack any big amounts of cash next to your dick. you underwear is in the end the best place to hide your valuables. Anything else just front trousers pockets
>>
>>1166868
In my pocket or backpack.
>>
Always carry the minimum and don't have things you are not willing to lose (top of the line smartphone, DSLR etc). If you do have them, don't flash it around and just be mindful of its position at all times.

Personally I carry a shit phone, almost no money and a bank card that only has the money I need for the day in the account. Plus has a good Freud protection IE will reimburse you if the purchase is not made by you.

Mostly this. When in countries and towns where it counts for safety reasons, I don't slum it whatsoever. I'm in the hotel with the highest (or 2nd highest non-5star) reputation for foreigner security. Business travler hotels have bigger safes for electronics and more security at the front desk. I use hotel driver(s) if I distrust public or taxi transportation. I dress as close as I can to a local or I look like a commuting business worker, not a vacation-enjoying slummy casual traveler. Shoes are typically the giveaway. But, having no bag at all, or having one that is a not backpack (if it isn't in fashion) is what a local would do, or it's flatter crossbody under the jacket if I have camera equipment or things to carry. The worse thing is hot weather for hiding your stuff. Hotel safe, and photocopies in my luggage back in my room too (or available online from a family holding copies back home, or email pdf parked in a zip file in my own cloud, to print in case of theft). I move money from primary location like in an undergarment to a more at reach handy area in a zipped jacket pocket in a discreet private moment in my room, the bathroom, or something where no one is watching. I haven't used a money belt in years, but I don't throw mine away. Back in my hotel room, luggage can be stolen, but its more likely it's your own maid/hotel manager going through there in a way that makes it look like you can't blame anyone. So, have a zip pocket in your bag somewhere, that you have a little locked cosmetic bag that can be missed. Lock and be neat about everything, makes it harder for them. I typically leave my hotel, and go right back in 5mins to see if they are suspicious or in my room already.

Usually I just keep both in my pockets all the time and put them under my pillow when sleeping. Is it that unsafe?

People who transport money keep it with them carryon, in a briefcase of course, or very large bills they break at a bank.

For USA banking, and less fees, the best is Charles Schwab checking acct. All fees are refunded and the exchange rate is always spot-on, no transaction fees, ever with no maximum or minimum. People who have military accts at certain banks, do alright with more ATM withdrawals, like 4 free a month or so. Capital One has a decent credit card (only one, venture?), so does Chase, but mostly your credit score and looking around is the number one factor not to be ripped off. I tend not to use my skymiles amex as much recently except for airfare and cars, since they really grumble about amex in smaller transactions like ordinary stores, hotels and restaurants. They'll swipe it and act like their machine is broken just not to pay the extra fees and ask you for cash or something else. I've seen that it can take 2 minutes for the machine to connect as well, it's become a hassle. But, for car rentals and extra checked bag and luggage insurance, you simply can't beat it. For carrying large amounts of cash? I don't. I might take out about 2-3 days worth from an ATM at a time.
>>
Money, important docs, and extra debit/credit cards go inside a PacSafe portable safe that I either keep locked in a locker, in a hotel safe, or locked up to a large piece of furniture when the room has neither.

So with my important stuff locked up securely back in the room, I take only the things that I'm willing to get stolen with me, and a copy of my passport. That includes my good phone - fuck using a cheap POS, travel insurance will cover a stolen phone. Just make sure all of those photos are backed up nightly.

So that leaves the transit time between hotels/hostels as the only really vulnerable time. So if I'm in a questionable spot, I just take Uber (not taxis when possible) door to door, and generally keep my head down.

Also, I use something like this (hangs off the belt inside the pants) when I think there's a good chance I'll get pick pocketed. Keep the phone and cards in there. IMO it's a little less obvious than money belts, if you're in a tourist area muggers will check for that.
>>
what kind of piss weak dog gets mugged? you cunts are pussies
>>
>>1166868
My jacket has a zipper pocket on the left side of my chest and put my passport in there. There is literally no way I can't notice someone try to pickpocket that part unless you were literally trying to mug me
