Any books or courses on learning Hungarian? Other recommendations? Experiences?
I want to be able to hold a normal conversation (or more).
I´m staying in Budapest for at least a year (studies), and learning the local language is a form of respect I´m feeling obliged to.
I thought about commiting an hour a day, for starters.
Thanky

Have you tried google.com?
I've heard it's all the rage these days.

I've heard magyar and icelandic are two of the tough languages, bro. I'd take a class once there for sure. Read up before studying, as the things like syllable stress is usually taught by a teacher, versus something you mimic.

What's wrong with rosetta stone other than the price tag? It's what the state dept uses.

The course on Duolingo seems decent enough if you want to learn basic conversational Hungarian. I haven't really looked into books or paid courses yet, so I can't say anything about those.
Personally, I find the language much easier to learn than people make it out to be, though that might be because my native language is Finnish.
