I'm considering exploring the Agreste region of Brazil (purple area 3 in image).
How safe do you think it would be to travel around northeast Brazil away from the coast. I am brown so I figure if I dress like the locals I could pass as one, although my accent would be a dead giveaway.
If I laid low and minded my own business do you think I would have any trouble? Any recommendations or travel stories in northeastern Brazil?
Dont.

Have you been to Bahia, my friend? With a country like Brazil, I think you might want to do your exploring piecemeal, especially with regard to the Northeast.

Why would you do that?

You think I should start in Bahia, like Salvador?
I think piecemeal would be a good idea, and hopefully I could make some connections to make exploring the area more fun/safer.

To explore the Agreste region of Brazil, it's literally the first sentence of my post.
I have a hard on for semi-arid tropical climates

Yeah, to get a better feel of the region, it would be good to start with the basics, like Salvador. Then, when you feel comfortable with your experiences, go exploring elsewhere in the region. Most importantly, if you want to head inland, it would be good to know Portuguese.

Cool, thanks for the advice.
Know anything about Joao Pessoa? Thought about going there, too
