Hey guys!,

I'm an electric engineer/technician from europe and I would love to live in the US and start a life/family there but I have some questions ^^

1)
Now- I don't know which state to move to.
I'm looking for a ,,quiet" place, with many friendly/down to earth people, less degeneracy :D, a nice landscape and kinda good weather conditions all over the year :D

2)
Is it hard to find a decent/good paying workplace as an ,,electrician"?, and how exactly do I apply for a job?I have work exp., I'm fluent in english etc

3)
How exactly do people pay off their mortgages? :D, like with a income of 60-80k $ a year and a house value of like 200k $ people are working their whole life just to pay off that mortgage :/

4) How much should the annual income be for having a ,,good" life? I'm scared that I would end up being broke all the time :/

Yeah- these are my main questions ^^

1.
If you're looking for quiet places that are degeneracy free, try the flyover states, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, etc. These places can get very cold in the winter. It is pretty remote, so if you're looking for a place that's bustling then those won't be your places. Oregon (other than Portland) and Nevada are great places as well, Oregon has beautiful forests.

2.
I'm not so skilled in that, but you might want to try North Dakoda, as they're experiencing quite an oil boom over there and there are plenty of people moving in, which means there are plenty of people trying to get their houses wired, and building new houses!

3.
It's a very difficult thing, and buying property in the US is a very big investment when it comes to taking out mortgages, but try to be conservative in your choice of a house/apartment/condo!

4.
When people make 100k or more, that is generally the "good life," "making six figures" is what people call it, if not that, 70k would be the minimum for a "good" life, and 60k is kind of pushing it.

There are a state and county licensing steps. Electrical engineers are different than electricians here. The latter need to appreciate up to journeyman, get certificates and what not. I think they are in high demand, but not in every city. Tell you what. Pick a climate that you desire. Winter, no winter. Dry. Humid. Flat. Mountainous. Predominately english, or diverse immigrant population. You might just pick a coast closer to East coast if you intend to fly home to Europe often to see family. What country you from? What is your religion?

One you pick a few states to choose from, you go to cost of living indexes. Compare salary vs housing and utility prices, and you come up with your quality of life, the amount of money you can save every year for retirement or spend on luxuries. There will be places with expensive housing like Miami and Washington DC, but unlike Washington, in Miami people make about 30% less income for the same exact jobs. And insurance is much higher in Miami, from homeowners to car insurance. So, relatively speaking, you can get more ahead in life in Washington like 40% better: take more vacations, dine out more often, maybe have a nicer car, pay off your house sooner, and so forth.

Thank you guys!,

I'm from germany, christian/agnostic(don't know really ^^),

I prefer ,,hot" areas
I don't like forrests and big cities etc
beautiful blue sky with white woolish clouds
preferable english people, a good place to start a family/find a partner,
away from the west coast
a normal home with a small backyard garden

a place away from all the problems in the world :P

These would be some key-word's for my dream life ^^

If that is your criteria, then Texas is the place to go, with New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada as nice places as well. Las Vegas is a casino town with LOTS of lights, so maybe you could lend your services there, if you want to go anywhere east of Texas, you have to be prepared for a lot of rain, a lot of humidity, and a lot of black people.

I don't really know if texas is the right place :D, texas seems like a real desert place with no life hehe, I would still love to see some green fields and some lakes etc ^^'

Then Texas is the place to go! It's not a complete desert like Arizona and New Mexico and Nevada, only part of it is desert, there are plenty of green places in Texas! But I'm telling you, you're missing out. The desert in America can be very very beautiful.

Hmm, and which part of texas would you say fit's best for me? ^^

West coast of Florida, from Naples to say Sarasota. Ridiculous amount of german snowbirds/expats (largest oktoberfest in the USA is in cape coral I believe), followed by one near Palm Beach), so lots of sources for butchers and restaurants so you don't get too homesick, and anyway what you might call a housing boom is happening, which means work for construction workers.

Housing prices can be quite low from Collier, Lee and Charlotte in pockets up and down the whole coast like in Punta Gorda or Englewood, I mean waterfront homes on the bay or on the beach, in a nice range between 100k-450k, houses that would be a million dollars in other coastal areas. That's very livable. Sarasota county was the first county in the USA to recover from the nationwide housing crisis/economic crash (I think Miami-Dade was second) and returned to original prices, which it surpassed now. So investmentwise, it's good sense. Waterfront can also be had inland in all kinds of lake areas or on the peace river for next to nothing. If you don't mind a pretty warm summer, you have beautiful winters here, gorgeous daily sunsets, and cheap airfare to the rest of the country as well (did a round-trip to Chicago for StPatricks for $99). Lots of disney traffic is competitive for the state as well as for south american shoppers.

My favorite climate in all of the country is mid-atlantic. Virginia. All 4 seasons, but mild snow. You don't have the same community warmness in every town though, some are too transient without a long lasting community that bonds.

Oh no- anything but florida, I never heard something good from there hahaha
>>
OP Texas weather is hell. It's as hot as the desert but then you have humidity
I think you'd like Arizona/new Mexico , I know it's close to the west coast but it fits almost all of your other criteria

Do you have an actual engineering degree? You can't be an engineer in the US without one.

Electricians still make good money though. I live in North Dakota and even though the oil boom has really slowed down, there's still a demand for skilled tradesmen. Most jobs here are rotational too so you can come up for a few weeks, work, and then have 2 weeks to go wherever.
