I'm going to Melbourne for 9 days in September and want to spend time on the Great Ocean Road. Has anyone done this before and can you give itinerary advice.Renting a car for a few days seems more affordable than joining a tour group. Also, general thoughts on Melbourne/Victoria
Couple of days will be enough. You dont really need an itinerary just drive and stop at the well-marked lookout points whenever you feel like it. Lorne is very expensive and touristy, Apollo Bay is a bit nicer as a stopover. There's a facebook page about whale sightings, sometimes you can get lucky.

If you've got the money, have a meal at Brae in Birregurra.

Port Campbell is a beautiful little cove to stay at, about 5 hours along the drive from Melb. Did it a few years ago.
The night we stayed, a mate and I dared each other to jump off the jetty after the locals told us there are sometimes sharks in there. We were drunk and did it multiple times.
You should do the same.

Yeah Melb is dope but I dont need to tell you that, check out laneways etc etc
Anyway if you're on the Great Ocean Road, are you from Adelaide?
I'll be coming down from Singapore. Just have a little over a week off. I know it's not much time to explore a lot in Australia, but I'm trying to get my feet wet. I figured with 9 days that's enough time to see a city and some countryside. Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep em coming. Looks like I'll be spending 3-4 days on the GOR.
