Alright /trv/ I've got 35k saved up and am ready to start a new life abroad. Il be using the money to continue to live off poker. I need to know the best place to live on $1500-2000 a month where there is also a thriving casino scene.
>>
prague might be good, you can get a nice apartment in the city centre for that kind of money
>>
>>1141450
Yes I was looking at prague but what worries me is that city centre apartments may be too much for my 1.5-2k budget. And if I lived far away from the casinos/city centre I would need some kind of transportation method.
>>
>>1141448
I imagine it would not be hard to live on that in Macau. Not as interesting as Hong Kong, but a bit cheaper.
>>
>>1141448
Cambodia has casinos everywhere. Not sure if main game is poker though.

One advantage is that you can get a bank account if you have a real or fake rental contract. Good way to keep the majority of your bank-roll, cause there are lots of thieves around.
>>
>>1141669
I've played at Nagaworld in PP a few months ago. The games are easy but there is only 1-2 tables going in the evening/night and none during the day for my game ( NLHE ).
After visiting Cambodia I think I would prefer living/playing somewhere a little nicer/more developed. The bank is a huge advantage. I would probably need to set one up wherever I went.
>>
>>1141500
Check out apartments in the zizkov area. It's close to the centre
>>
>>1141448
I don't know about casinos, but for that money you can choose any city in France other than Paris. Lyon, Amiens, Rouen, Bordeaux might be nice.

And I'm sure most german cities are doable as well within that budget.

I remember one casino in Amsterdam was pretty nice, close to the Rijk museum. But rent there is crazy expensive, from what I hear.
>>
>>1142676
I'm looking to avoid both Middle Eastern nations so France and Germany are both out. Eastern Europe may be nice however.

Yes Amsterdam is beautiful but unaffordable.

>>1142553
I've looked at apartments and I can afford most of them in Praha 2,3 and 5. Which of these areas would you recommend for casino access?
>>
>>1141448
I hope pic is not related because Osaka is expensive.
>>
>>1141448
Prague/Malta/Macao
>>
What portion of the $2k have you budgeted towards rent?
>>
Bumping.

Where in the world can I live for $1500 per month?
>>
>>1143273
$2000 is inclusive of everything, I'm willing to spend however much is needed to get a decent place. Don't need anything big or fancy.
>>
>>1143514
Literally anywhere, retard.

You can live in most of Eastern Europe for about 400-500$ just fine.
>>
>>1143649
$400-500 per month?!
>>
>>1143700
Poland, 500euro is ok.
>>
>>1143649
>>1143701

In Budapest you can get your own 1 bedroom apartment for 300 euro, half that if you're willing to share. 200 euros for groceries is excessive, and then going out/other expenses are up to you.
>>
>>1143700
Uh, yes? An apartment is $150-300, and you need about $100-200 for food. Locals tend to live with less since they have their own inherited place or they live with parents etc.
>>
Why is it that when I go to actual expat forums they tell me i'd need a minimum of $1500 per month to live in a country like the philippines yet on this anonymous board people say clearly absurd shit like
>you only $400 per month, retard!

are you lying or are they lying?
>>
>>1143838
The Phillipines specifically have some amount like $800 or so when you want to retire there that's considered more than enough to support yourself and your wife, so $1500 would be double that. I'm not entirely sure about the figures, but you can look them up in their retirement visa requirements.

And as far as Eastern Europe goes, maybe because I'm literally from there and living here just fine right now on $200/month (in my own place that would take $150-200 to rent otherwise)?
>>
>>1143839
I want you to be right! Thank you for responding.

I guess I'm just skeptical because right now I'm living relatively frugally and spending over $3,000 per month in Los Angeles.
>>
>>1141448
Poker is best in the US. You wont find a better place to grind 2/5 nlholdem with that kind of low rake.
>>
>>1143844
Bro other countries are cheap. In Egypt, I would buy full meals for less than 50 cents and I spoke to someone who lived there a few decades ago and a sandwich that I bought with two pounds he used to buy with half a pound (7 pounds make roughly one American dollar).

I know someone who knows someone who lived in Vietnam and had a similar experience.
>>
>>1143838
It's because min cost of living =/= expat living. If you live like the locals you can get by cheap almost anywhere.
>>
>>1143838
>actual expat forums

most "expats" tend to be fancy corporate sissies living the high life abroad. What we're giving you here
>>1143701
>>1143706
>>1143825
is closer to the standard of living a local would have, a student or someone like that. It implies sharing a flat and mostly cooking your own meals.
>>
>>1144089
>>1143874

I think my standard of living would fall somewhere in between corporate sissy and local.

I cook most of my meals ut I'd never share a flat again. I'm 31 for fuck's sake.
>>
>>1143649
>You can live in most of Eastern Europe for about 400-500$ just fine.

hahahahaha
>>
>>1144089
>It implies sharing a flat
It does not, it just implies not having a fully furnished IKEA catalog flat right in the historical city center.

>>1144178
What's the problem?
>>
>>1144280
but I like IKEA... :(

This is truly a little low. To have a liveable place you're going to have to spend about $1000-1200 a month in EE. Sure you can get by cheaper but you don't want to.

For $1200 you get a flat to yourself, get to go out to eat a couple times a week, entertainment budget, misc expenses etc.
>>
>>1144300
>To have a liveable place you're going to have to spend about $1000-1200 a month in EE.
Why? The average salary in my country is less than half that and everyone lives perfectly normally, even with the expenses that tourists will typically not have.

Also, no one does the flat-sharing thing except for students, this is not a thing here, stop pushing it as if it were please, it's an American invention.
>>
>>1144305
Which country, senpai?
>>
>>1144305
In Poland everyone flat shares as salaries are too low to allow most people do rent a place to live in.
>>
>>1143838
Pole here. In Poland to live a comfortable life you probably need $2000 per month.
Decent maybe $1200-$1500
>>
>>1143701
>Poland, 500euro is ok.
Nice trolling attempt. A studio in Wroclaw costs more than 500 euro.
>>
>>1144323
You're literally retarded, tell me what you need this money for? Let's hear it, item by item.

>>1144324
It doesn't. What costs 500 euro is an airbnb Ikea furnished center apartment. Fuck off.

>>
>>1144327
You can literally find out in a single google search.

http://www.property-krakow.com/Rental-Apartment-Juliusza-Lea-Krowodrza-20m2,3055.html

As you can see, you can even get a completely new place with Ikea bullshit for 300/month. A small place like that rented privately (not through a company that caters to tourists) with shittier furniture is about 150/month, this is just basic logic. And even if you can't find it (can't read Polish newspaper) 300/month is still cheap.
>>
>>1144335
I'm with this anon. On this website you can check out flats for Hungary/Budapest.

Really, people are throwing bullshit numbers in here, U$D1000 for a single person is waaaay more than enough. I know american students in Budapest paying their way through an expensive private university, partying every other day and just mis-spending money in general, and they get by on under $1000.
>>
>>1144499
and here you can check out the prices for an average supermarket.

Keep in mind that 300 Hungarian forints are roughly 1 euro. So 1 liter of milk is just over 0.50 euro, and 1kg of boneless chicken breast is just over 4 euros.
>>
>>1144320
Most people own their own flat, I imagine.
>>
>>1144502
>>1144499

Thanks anon. This is absolutely based.
>>
How does Croatia/Montenegro coast compare with other Eastern European places?
>>
>>1144575
>Croatia
From what I hear, tends to be a bit more expensive because every spot is a touristic spot, it's just that nice of a country, sunny beaches everywhere. No idea about Zagreb though, but the city is boring as fuck so you're better off going to another EE capital.

Montenegro used to be cheap a decade ago, it's where all the eastern europeans went on holidays because their money was worth more down there. Prices have since risen, specially because the country is trying to brand itself as high-end tourism and not cheap working-class-scum tourism for the europoors. Also, you won't have any expat community at all, and you're more likely to suffer from the "foreigners pay double" scam.
>>
>>1144579
Damn. Are there any cheap spots left on the Med?
>>
>>1144582
>>1144582
>cheap
If you're OP and you've got that $1500 budget then yeah, you can live on that on the Croatian coast, but you won't find the prices that these anons here >>1144502
>>1144502
>>1144499
>>1144335

are claiming.
>>
>>1144586
Thanks m8

What about somewhere in between those two?

Is Greece too touristy? Is Albania too muslim?
>>
>>1144591
It really depends where in Greece. If you head to the southern coast/islands then it will be just as expensive as Med side Croatia. If you hit up the Peloponnese and other less touristy areas you can live cheaper.
>>
>>1144592
Never been to Albania. However, I've lived in Morocco and I've seen a phenomenon there that I believe happens as well in Albania. Life as a local is VERY cheap there, but the standards of living are so low that you wouldn't feel comfortable or it'd be too expensive. In Morocco, fresh fruits and veggies, dry legumes etc are super cheap, but if you want to buy a box of tomato sauce or a can of beans at the supermarket you'll end up paying 3 times their price in europe.

Basically, anything that grows on the ground is dirt cheap, but anything manufactured has to be imported from the outside and is therefore expensive as hell. Sometimes that trade-off benefits you (fresh ground coffee was actually cheaper and better than any european coffee from the supermarket), but a lot of times it doesn't. Just getting a wifi connection was a big fucking struggle, and the quality was shit and completely overpriced.
>>
>>1144598
Did you have a chance to use 3g/lte dongles while in marocco?
>>
>>1144601
I was using a 3g dongle on my laptop, but I remember finding a company willing to give me a non-retarded deal was hard. They all wanted me to sign contracts, they had ridiculous rates or they had shitty coverage. I tried a friend's 3g at my place and we couldn't get it to connect, then a neighbor mentioned that in that area company X was the worst.

also
>marocco
where are you from that you spell it like that?
>>
>>1144605
Good, I was afraid they might not have that at all.

>where are you from that you spell it like that?
Oh well. Russia. I can never remember which is the right variant and I make this Morocco/Marocco mistake in my native tongue too. It guess it's a dead giveaway: it's a characteristic trait of Russian language that both letters o and a in a non-stressed position stand for the same sound halfway between o and a.
>>
>>1144598
Why would you think that Albania would be like Morocco?
>>
>>1144636
It's a non-EU country, weak currency, underdeveloped and very little industry. Those three factors lead me to believe that, regarding the aspects I've described, Albania and Morocco would be similar.
>>
>>1144591
What about Sicily?
>>
>>1144856
Sicily is expensive as fuck in summer, but should be ok the rest of the year.

Colombia is probably the best country to live on that budget with casino access.

$1500-2000 a month would let you live like an upper middle class Colombian in Medellin. Beautiful women, cheap cost of living, lively casino action.
>>
>>1144907
You pretty much to live in the upscale neighborhoods to live in Medellin though, otherwise you will get murdered by angry paisas. Casinos are shady stuff and will make you an even bigger target for angry paisas as well.
>>
>>1145252
You're right but you can live on that budget in the upper scale more touristy areas of Medellin. As for the casinos and angry paisas, go to the tourist casinos and focus on the gringos.
>>
>>1145252
Is Medellin like that specifically or is all of Colombia truly that dangerous?
>>
>>1145352
Medellin isn't that dangerous. He is being dramatic. Bogota is far more dangerous than Medellin and even then most areas there are fine.
>>
Is it true all Colombianas have kids?

You have to be fucking retarded. I live in the US in a major city for less than 1500 a month. You can certainly live on far less than that in other lower-cost nations. Are you underage, do you live with your parents? Have you ever paid bills before? Are you mentally challenged?

b-but the j-jews!
>>

yeah, because those 4 cities are the only ones worth living in in the US.

Also, you don't need to live in Manhattan, you can do a decent part of Brooklyn for $1500, if you share an apartment.

You have to have 10K in am account fora retirement visa, so I reckon that's the base for Phillipines. Thailand is 25K, so about 1,200 USD a month. That said that is the minimum to survive, and if you"live like a local" it's even less. But the $1,500 number comes from living comfortably and doing whatever the fuck you want/not worrying about money. Potential medical bills and other things young people don't think aboutare factored into that 1.5K/month number as well.
>>
>>1147341
That sounds really low, why doesn't everyone just go there then?
>>
>>1147342
Because people are scared of uprooting themselves from the only life they ever knew. As you get older it becomes harder to make friends as well so many justify it by saying they'd be forever alone in a foreign land.

However lots of people do it and love it.
>>
Doesn't make sense, if you can live for 10 years for the money you earn in 1 year, literally everyone in the world would be doing it.

But they wouldn't because they aren't. Most people want the whole school--->degree---->career--->marriage---->kids cycle. You can't do that travelling the world.

And if OP makes 30-40k in 3-4 months due to his job then he can realistically work for a year and then live 4-5 years off those earnings.
>>
>>1145352
>>1145404
I am being a bit dramatic, but you gotta keep in mind mugging and pickpocketing are pretty damn common in the biggest cities. The country is not as dangerous as it used to be years ago.
