For some reason there's no SEA thread up so I'll selfishly make a thread.
I'll be heading north from Bangkok with the goal being getting to Laos. I had planned on going through North-East Thailand because I liked the idea of seeing some nice temples and just wandering around on a motorbike around some more 'untouched' places.
Most people don't understand why I wouldn't just go straight north to Chiang Mai/Rai and cross the border that way. Am I just being a RealTraveler and ignoring that the North is objectively more fun for a white dude with no Thai knowledge?
Also, any comments or recommendations on Laos or Cambodia? Not really sure what people are doing in Cambodia outside of the capital and the two main temple complexes.
... Bump?
C'mon guys, I help you all a lot with India and the U.S.

There are literally 2 or 3 SEA generals up right now, plus additional threads on specific countries

But to answer your question, Udon Thani is the biggest and most traveler friendly city in Isan (NE Thailand) and you can cross the border into Vientiane in Laos north from there. Also Isan is undderated

Nigga for real? there are like 3 or 4 threads on this already.

Cant take a thai motorbike out of thailand and cant bring a non-thai motorbike into thailand, so you might wanna take that into account when being a "real traveller." Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam are boss if you get a bike in chiang mai or somehing.
