Going to poland for a few weeks. Is it enough of a danger zone to warrant Prepare to Die edition travel insurance?

Any tips, hints, comments on the people there?
>>
Is very dangerous, pls not come. Gangster wear human skin tracksuit and everybody have only one kidney.

You'll have to be more specific with your questions.
>>
>>1136013
Is it worth getting insurance that covers for accidental death?

Also just wanted to know what its like or any weird customs they have there.
>>
>>1136014
Drivers can be fairly reckless. So be extra careful if you rent a car and always assume there's some cretin trying his hardest to crash into you. Still, it's nothing compared to what you'd see further east or outside of Europe.
Otherwise you'd really have to go out of your way to get hurt. Use common sense, avoid bald drunks, try not to be black, smashed and alone in the middle of the night in a shitty neighborhood. Ordinary precautions.
Supposedly there's some scam in Kraków where groups of chicks start flirting with you out of the blue in the middle of the street and lure gullible foreigners to a deserted night club with absurd, hidden prices and intimidating bouncers. So don't believe that things too good to be true are real.
>>
>>1136017
Thanks famalam, it seems common sense is the strongest insurance.
>>
>>1135991
Which city exactly?
>>
>>1136302
Krakow, Gdansk, Ctechowa, Oswiecim, Kalwaria and Wadowice.

Particularly hyped and terrified at the prospect of visiting Auschiwitz-Birkenau

Try not to get blown up in the inevitable terrorist attack.

Yeah, I went with the "Prepare to Die edition" insurance policy

Poland is actually pretty safe, I visited Poznan, Cracow and zakopane. Cracow is definitely my favorite. Go see some art, Cracow has great galleries and stands selling art (mostly replicas) in the city center on Fridays I believe. Also the nightlife is pretty good, but only go to clubs that ask an entry fee. They are the only ones that actually get visitors, the rest are mostly tourist traps. A club called frantic was pretty good albeit slightly crowded. There are others that are even better, but I can't recall the names. Best way is to start out in some shot bar, there's a chain that serves all kinds of different wodka shots and beer for the Polish equivalent of 1 euro.
>>
As long as you are not black, you have nothing to worry about desu.
>>
I'm spending 4 days in cracow at the end of July. I'm gonna be living around centrum and will bring my camera. Is there anything special I should do while visiting? Other than buying an escort to get rid of my wizard powers I mean.
>>

I From Poland.Poland is safe.Do you have any question about Poland?

>>
>>1136462
Holy Fuck Op, you are going to be treated like some kind of demi-god here if you come for youth day.. Everything is set for this event 2 months in advance
>>

Is that a good or bad thing?
>>
Where the hell do I buy monster hunter generations here in krakow?
>>
>>1139358
According to a quick google, seems like no publisher in Poland has picked it up yet. You'd have to resort to buying an imported copy online or waiting till you get home.

If you're desperate, you might try these stores:
http://sklepgekon.pl/contact_us.php
http://krakow.gameover.pl/sklep/index.php?p7776,monster-hunter-generations-3ds (see the "adres, wysyłka" box)
Keep in mind though that the former likely won't have it in their physical stores (it's marked as "available to order") and the latter says nothing about its availability other than "after the premiere".

Would just like to comment that the world ball in the picture is not correct. Polands flag is white top, red bottom. The other way around is Indonesia.

It's on purpose. Read up on poland ball.

This is a chain of night clubs, they have spiked drinks and huge prices.Plus bouncers that are violent thugs. There was an attempt to shut them down.
Girls usually have pink umbrellas and are in centre nagging people to come over.

If you go to Krakow, you should see Wieliczka salt mine, it is really amazing underground complex

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wieliczka_Salt_Mine
>>
>>1142413
That looks amazing. A Polish guy here told me you can lick the walls.

Are there any souvenirs worth buying here (apart from wodka)?
And what's good wodka? I heard wyborowa is the best affordable one.
>>
>>1142709
Wyborowa is one of my favorites. Another interesting choice is Luksusowa - goes down smooth and is made of potatoes instead of rye. If you want something aromatized, you can consider Żubrówka - look for the slightly greenish one with a blade of grass inside, not the pure Biała/Czysta.

3 free days in krakow. One will be spent getting souvenirs. Anything cool to do with the other 2 days? Already visited krakow market centre/square
>>
Yay kraków. Hitting the youth days thing was just a fluke. When they try to pass me a flag I just say I'm a Protestant. They give me a dirty look and I just smile and walk away lol.
Polish girls are cute but a bit shy about speaking English. I only know 1 word in Polish that I've learned from Polish construction workers back home. (kurwa) which seems to be about 50% of what they are saying.

how is the job market in poorland? i have saved $30000 in two years working as a cook in new orleans and am trying to gtf to my fatherland so i can live among grey people who wont talk to me and die in the same dirt as my forbears or whatever
>>
>>1144380
What I can tell you is that you're not saving anything close to that in two years in Poland. Don't emigrate in the wrong direction because of "muh heritage".
The job market is shit, unskilled (and terribly paid) labor is in demand because everyone either left to the UK or is living on the brand new welfare handouts - seems like we're patching that hole with Ukrainian immigrants. White-collar work is an underpaid rat race unless you have a bajillion years of experience in whatever you do. Skilled blue-collars probably have it best.

Speaking of Żubrówka, it makes for a great drink when mixed with apple juice.

It tastes like apple pie.
>>
>>1144442
In Poland, if you want to order this drink, ask for a szarlotka (SHAR-loht-ka)
>>
>>1135991
So OP how it was on WYD in Cracov? Any info?
>>
>>1145653
Pretty unorganised imo.
The lot my group actually paid for was full so we couldn't get in. That area was pretty close to the main stage too.

Then Campus Misericoridae was a complete dump, with uneven ground. I was chatting with a bunch of cute volunteers and then this nerd walks up and complains that the ground is uneven and he spilled his food into a ditch, wanting a refund. He was promptly told to take it up to the Pope. While his complaints and response was ridiculous, one at least expects the WYD organisation to at least give campers flat ground to park on.

As for the "pilgrimage," a lot of people coming from and back to Krakow got screwed over, because that was the way the Pope would go. It meant that roads were blocked off much earlier than expected and the intended tram stop for pilgrims was blocked off. This meant walking an extra 7km each way on top of the expected 10km. That was not fun carry camping gear that extra distance in the midday sun. Call me a feeble wimp but that's not what we signed up for.

Despite all that, Krakow itself was cool. Nowhere in Australia do I want to just buy a drink and chill out, soaking up the atmosphere.
>>
>>1145662
Sounds like typical Poland then. Unorganised is probably the best word to describe this country.
>>
>>1145662
At least you did not get raped or blown up.
>>
>>1142412
Kokomo?;)
>>
>>1145702
Too ugly and afaik, poland just didn't accept any middle eastern refugees, which sounds like a smart move when you look at Paris
>>
>>1145662
You make it sound a lot worse than it was. Plenty of spots where you could sleep, even with the patches of uneven ground. The only problems were the distribution of the food packages and as you said the sectors in the front were full after a while. (I was in the sector for handicapped people C2). And I suppose the roads were very unorganised too.
As for the "pilgimage", I had luck and was on the good side of town. Did you realise they made some people walk an extra 5 kilometers or so? We had to walk on the highway (to the south east) even tough we shoud have gone to the north east.
>>
Ayy. Im gonna go to Warsaw for a week or so as well. Where can I find some decent mead ?
interesting, quirky stuff to see/do ?

>Is it worth getting insurance that covers for accidental death?
What good will it be if you're dead?
>>
>>1145988
I have supposed loved ones I guess. They might want the body for some reason.
>>
So I'm going to be visiting Kraków with a friend in october and we will be both visiting and attending Unsound festival.
How is accommodation for youth?
Do people speak english?
How much does public transport/taxis cost?
Any dangerous spots?
Any nice spots?
That about covers it.
>>
>>1146911
Only know about the english part: only restaurants, shops, some taxi drivers and some people know English, and not even to a fluent degree. Come prepared with at least some language that might be relevant or come with a Polish friend.

I live in Lublin. As long as you don't go suspicious places/ obscure streets nothing's gonna happen. Poland is pretty safe actually, Much safer than most European countries actually...
Feel free to ask me any questions about the country / city

>try not to be black

kek

OP poland is not nearly as bad as you seem to think. ive been there before, but i am white, and i would not doubt that being black in poland would be an entirely different ball-game. so yeah, try not to be black and you will be fine
>>
>>1135991
I was in poland for a week or so and I really piked it

it's very safe, modern, first world

people were so friendly, like some of the friendliest I've ever met
just please don't be a dick to their women

This

Basically, the Poles like the tourists and there's nothing to be afraid of unless you go to wrong places which are pretty easy to notice.
In typical tourist destinations you don't have to worry regardless of race or nationality.
Meal tips if you like to taste local cuisine:
Pierogi (typical Polish dumplings), Zurek (soup)
>>
>>1150230
advanced course: barsch, comes in either hot red or cool pink
>>
If you're asian or white you will be fine.Otherwise you're done.

>family split and half escaped to the US at the onset of WW2, bringing behind some trinkets from the church we'd been visiting for generations
>for decades, just outside the small former castle my extended family lived, we had limited communication
>grandparents told us every Christmas we'd send the old country shoes they'd outgrown, and then for their children as well
>Finally last year some members of the old family reconnected on Facebook
>"it's been very hard for us here but times are better now that the Soviet union is gone, the family here struggles"
>not very many members remaining
>compared the two photos of family reunions, theirs with hardly a dozen people, ours with 80 plus
>want to go and visit
Apparently though poor it's quickly shedding the dead husk of the USSR and becoming a modern nation, something something politics, however it's still a bit "backwards" in places. My impression is short that ot can be perfectly European, but if you'd like it can be perfectly eastern European as well. For better or worse. (Mostly worse)
