ebin I was there by accident. what an inferior country

It's lower then the most industrialized cities in the world across the entire country, wtf.

Weird asking this, but I'm a korean who immigrated to Canada 20 years ago. Only visited 3 times in those 20 years to see family and my own motherland. First two times I went with my parents 16, 11 years ago but last year I went by myself and realized I have no idea what I ought to do there. I don't have friends there anymore, I don't care to see most of the tourist sights cause meh I've experienced it all while I've been in Canada. I might go again this year and wondering if you guys have any advice for me... I do have a friend there now, and pretty much whenever I ask any other korean in Canada what I ought to do, it's #1: eat, #2: go shopping, #3: ???

You can only eat maybe 4 meals a day at most and spend only so much time with family....
>>
was thinking of going here but my friends would rather go to japan. Which is better japan or Korea?
>>
>>1037311
Japan.

Has more (and better) culture, traditional, pop and sub. More polite, neither don't like you but at least Japs won't show it. More likely to score above-average grils. Has the sex industry and nightlife.
>>
>>1037340
What is there culture exactly? all i tend to notice is the anime and kawaii stuff. Are they more polite with Hispanics?
>>
>>1037397

>>
Spent my chuseok with my gf and her family. Holy shit home cooked 삼겹살 and 닭볶음탕 is fucking top tier.
>>
>>1037397
As a fellow latino, you are a dumbass.

If you really think japan is just about anime and kawaii stuff , and if you think koreans will treat colored people better then japanese people do you are 100% delusional .

i dated a korea born kind of fobby bitch for 4 years and i can tell you that their culture is just shit man, they are all rude and if you aren't korean you will never be the "same" as them.

I heard japanese feel the same but atleast they are more polite about it . Koreans are almost like the niggers of asia i swear. Or maybe the jews of asian i don't know. They definetly aren't that great. The americanized koreans are probably the most polite/nice to be around, i found from experience, as they are forced not to be such cunts .

I know i sound bitter but i endured 4 years of weird passive aggressiveness from her korean guy friends and weird passes from her female korean friends who were "curious" which honestly made me feel like i was just an accessory to her.

>tl;dr japan is better, go to japan.
>>
>>1037410
>As a fellow latino, you are a dumbass.
no need to be rude. anyways i'll keep the whole niggers of asia thing in mind.
>>
>>1037410

>>
>>1037410
As a korean, we don't like to see foreigners chasing after our women. I think koreans don't really appreciate the whole yellow fever thing. So other than chasing after girls, korea's pretty great. Hospitality should be pretty good if you're not clearly chasing after our women. Otherwise, I'd still say Japan is better. Korea's consumerism is quite overwhelming compared to America's while Japan's at least more toned down on the surface.
>>
>>1037474
what places in Korea do you recommend to visit?
>>
>>1037474
>foreigners chasing our women
holy hell you must be one of those passive aggresive korean guys he was talking about.

>>
Chinesefag here, my gf is Korean and she really wants me to see her grandma in Taegu (I think it's Taegu). Thing is, I'm not interested in going at all. I've already been to China, Japan, Taiwan, etc. multiple times and I'm tired of Asia. Asians in general are fake as hell, but Koreans seem to take it to the next level and it honestly kind of sickens me. So I just have a couple of questions -

Is Korea really as fake as it seems?
Are there any pretty landmarks or temples outside of the urban areas?
Just what exactly the fuck is there to do?

Sorry for the hand-holding, I just don't know shit and my gf is ignorant as fuck and I'm bored at work.
>>
>>1037531
honestly man it is really fake.
i'm sure i'll sound like some anti-korean asian guy but i really am not, i would have to say the most pleasant asians i've ever met are without a doubt the japanese. in a way i guess you could say they are close to being like a church going person? i don't know if that makes sense but they are polite to the point where whether it is real/or not real it FEELS genuine. i have to say it's probably from the culture they are raised in.

that being said there are nice/genuine people in any culture but you'll be hard pressed to find a japanese person that is not polite for the most part.
>>
>>1037531
Pretty fake. Koreans are all about trendy fashion (every other store at ICN is clothing, accessories, and perfume) and all the young men and women look like cardboard cutouts of each other from plastic surgery. Things to do? Eat, drink, and shop. Repeat.
>>
>>1037531
Gangnam is pretty cookie cutter

The smaller towns have very kind happy people. But I'm white.
>>
>>1037585
what about theaters, concerts, parks, outdoor activities, and tours?
>>
>>1037593
There are museums, small public parks, and lots of clubs with live shows to go to. There's a fuckton of hiking both in and out of Seoul.
>>
>>1037523
lol maybe I am, but I think any man in any proud culture would be like that. Tell you a story, one time there was a short white kid that was following a girl around. Clearly she didn't mean anything and the fact that he showed up was very suspect. So a bunch of us guys just stood in front of him and peppered him with questions about school, where he's from, what he does, how did he end up here. If the kid genuinely wanted to chase after this girl, then we probably wouldn't mind, but he was another kid that was chasing after a girl. I don't feel proud about that but it does kinda reflect our sentiments. The fact that the latino guy got anywhere with a korean girl is pretty surprising and he should be proud he even got that far. Even koreans can't get with korean girls I feel sometimes... Shit ain't easy.... but worth it...
>>
>>1037482

>>1036963
you see this post? This is me. I'm not 100% sure, but if you can go to jejudo, do it. It's a volcanic island off the coast of korea, and it was the only place as a korean I found really filled my desire for travel. You'd need to rent a car though. Otherwise, Seoul (shopping, sightseeing, nightlife?), Busan (eating seafood, hike taejongdae, nightlife?), don't really know much else...
>>
>>1037531
As a korean, I'm going to agree and say our culture is pretty fake. But as a korean who went last year, if you go anywhere that's easy to go to, the place will be ABSOLUTELY LOADED with chinese tourists. And you might be ashamed of your culture when you see what they're like... But hey, they feed the economy.

If you're an okay looking white male who wants to fuck asian girls Japan is the place too be. Sure, the japs are racist as fuck, but if you're white and hot they will love you, also it's been more "westernised" and you have tons of japs that are "reversed weeboes"; bascially super in to western culture (just look at murakami for instance). Koreans hate you no matter what, ofc there are exceptions, you can make friends, gt a GF etc, but genereally they hate you. Korea man, they're like a kindergarden version of Nazi - Germany, they just wanna be left alone with their perfect race. The belif that they are of " pure blood " (that ought not to be mixed) is very strong and extremly common. Seriously, don't even bother, they'll fucking hate you and you'll never truly be accepted, no matter how much of their language and culture you learn; they're racist and there's nothing you can to do make them like you except being the right race.

To be fair they are unfortunately by far the hottest asians out there. K - pop girls, my god.

sounds like you're the ultimate "man child" that Asians are known for. Protecting your woman? When you’re home in your one room apartment, jacking off your tiny dick to cartoon porn, does it really matter if the hot girl at the bar went home with a white dude or a Korean? It's like you think the same way as The West did in 1920 - 1945 (the whole holocaust thing was an eye opener for the rest of the world, not you apparently). God you're whole post...you guys just sound so weird. I can imagine it now: five passive aggressive manlet Koreans white - knighting and cockblocking a guy because some illusion they have of protecting their girls and grandiose, pure race. lol.

Also don't forget you would be speaking Chinese right now if it wasnt for the west

We live in the 21th century bro, open up a little and get with the fucking times.

>>1037716

and what have you done for your country? Unless you're in the ruling elite you've done nothing; a foreigner who works in your country is contributing as much you..
>>
>>1037739
Soondubu's pretty bomb. Korean staple would be the bbq (불고기). I found seafood to be super expensive so I kinda stayed away but it's probably worth it to check it out when you can. Mae oon tang is like a spicy fish stew and when it's made well, it's amazing. Bibimbap is great especially when you go somewhere that is just meant for bibimbap (you'll usually see 비빔밥 in the name). One thing I found is that there's not really jewish/muslim people in korea so they don't understand the concept of not eating pork in case that matters. I went to an all you can eat bbq buffet and no one had any idea which meats weren't pork and brought back a plate of pork for my jewish friend after they told me it was beef... you might see some street vendors (they're pretty safe) selling lots of fried stuff, pastries, and I think it's silkworm cocoons. The texture and smell of the cocoons is pretty off putting, but honestly they taste like baby shrimp. Hmmm can't think of anything else atm, but you'll see that every single street block has at least one restaurant which is absurd... kinda reflects the work situation in korea where men get laid off at a certain age but still need to support their families.
>>
>>1037744
I'm not here to argue. Just explaining the sentiments that koreans have against foreign men dating korean girls. Geeze..... You have some issues you ought to work through... If you're that latino guy, sorry it didn't work out, but honestly cross cultural relationships are much more strictly defined in korea and it's saved you from a lot of trouble. Kinda doubt the guys were dicks to you just cause you weren't korean.
>>
>>1037746
> it's saved you from a lot of trouble
I mean the fact that it ended.
>>
>>1037744
That's a pretty lame argument and you know it. Your entire argument has been "wahhh they didn't accept me!" and "th-they wouldn't do this in Japan!"

First of all, Japanese people wouldn't accept you, either. They are more open and polite than other Asians, but it also took a massive war and two atomic bombings for them to stop being massive assholes. Second, you're projecting your own Western philosophy onto a culture and people that have existed for thousands of years. Stop being a fuckin' crybaby.

>>1037745

Yeah street food's pretty awesome. Just keep in mind that it's only a small part of Korean food and that the really good stuff is in the restaurants. I find that one of the biggest issues I faced in korea was just not having enough room in my stomach. I honestly ate so much, didn't ever have any leftovers, and cause of that, no regrets. I didn't try this, but there's a chain called kimbap chungook (kimbap heaven) that makes kimbap to go. Should be good for meals on the run. Oh, the frozen treats like ice cream cones, popsicles are pretty great in korea. There's melona which you should be able to find here too. Snacks are pretty great too. Banana milk is popular, they have this drink called yogurutu and I'm not sure how to describe it but you should definitely try it for a korean experience. It's usually in a tiny plastic bottle with a tin foil lid, usually sold in a pack of 5/6 of them. For true trashy korean look, get a straw, keep the bottles in the plastic wrap that holds them all together, and drink each of them with your straw.
>>
It feels like I've been to a different country, really. I've spent two weeks in SK last year, thinking of going back already. I mean even if you don't do anything, just eat, that's a sort of experience itself. The Busan fish market! And all the other markets... And all the grannies running their restaurants. All the random franchises everywhere. Oh god. Brb gotta eat
>>
Japan>Korea
>>
>>1037709
Lol you sound like every other white kpop loving loser on this website, you idiots do realize every kpop star has plastic surgery?
>>
>>1037684
nah man you sound like a beta korean. You followed a guy around and surrounded him and peppered him with questions... You realize that is not normal behaviour? You sound extremely insecure.

"proud culture" you should be proud to share your culture with anyone that is not part of it. What shame is there in your "women" (fucking lol) wanting to be with other men?
>>
>>1037716
Exactly.
"im surprised that latino guy was even able to go far with a korean girl"

So if he was white it wouldn't be surprising? Also i assume he is not from the states as its not that uncommon for koreans/latinos to get together especially in L.A. and california

its mind boggling that the korean dude can make these comments and wonder why some korean girls might not want to be with guys like that
>>
>>1038381
>>1038383
Ok. Have yourself a good day Mr. I-Have-Something-To-Prove-To-Koreans.
>>
>>1037709

I had the opposite experience. I went to a Japan on a short trip and couldn't get laid for shit, I banged 3 girls in Korea in 3 weeks. I also thought the average Koran girl > than average Jap girl, but I know most of them are fake. I think it's because Korean girls just speak better English and don't have that retarded tatemae shit.

My stats: mid 20s white male, 6' 1

But then again you're probably some Korean-American or Korean-Canadian trying to deter people from going to Korea anyway
>>
I live in Korea right now...and Koreans are hotter than Japs

I've managed to hook up with quite a few...but Koreans treat foreigners worse than the Japanese. I'm 5'9 Mexican semi slim build...can speak a good amount of Korean and Japanese. I've had 2 girlfriends in each country. Not bragging I'm ugly AF

If you dudes got some more questions.
>>
>>1038685
is it just cuz of your skin? will a 'white' dude be treated better? i'm half ecuadorian but look like a fucking honkey and wanna teach english in korea for a stint after college.
>>
>>1038686

Most Koreans think I'm Arab, they aren't used to seeing Mexicans you know? The arab people here try to pan handle and ask for money so they are a bit prejudice. Learn the language and you can get over it fast with a quick and nice introduction.
>>
>>1037709
Stop spewing diarrhea. Christ.

Japan is no more Westernized than Korea. If by "westernized" you simply mean cleaner and it's evident the country industrialized a hundred years before Korea than yes. But in terms of culture and people Japan and Korea are both not very Westernized at all. And if you want to talk Westernization, then really, you might say Korea is moreso given the potent Christian influence in the country.

>but if you're white and hot they will love you

Wow, what a fucking non statement. Hot guys can get laid anywhere.

It is true that as a whole, Japan has a more liberal and open attitude about sex--but in the specific sphere of "going out to get laid" you're not going to find a difference between Tokyo and Seoul. Going out and getting shitty at a club in Seoul is the same shit as in Tokyo.

Your comments about Korea sound like every nimrod who was thrown under a bus by a shitty Hagwon job in Korea ever.
>>

I married a Korean a few years back and now have US/Korean dual citizenship. I come and go but I really like it here. I spent just shy of 2 years studying in Japan and even met my Korean wife there. Culturally Korea is just as rich.
>>
>>1038758
2 GFs is a long shot from quite a few, but I agree with the ugly 5 foot 9 mexican having lived in both countries that Koreans are WAY hotter than japs.
>>
>>1038782
Korean girls that are worth anything tend to only marry korean men, I'm korean and i come from a "wealthy" family and i can tell you right now that any korean that family is wealthy would never be allowed to marry a foreigner. would if you try a american born korean then yes it can aheppen but a korean from south korea that raise and grew up here? never
>>
>see korean thread
>only post about getting laid
Dissapointed but not surprised.

>>1037745
Thanks for the food post!
불고기 is definitely the most famous but for bbq you should try 삼겹살 or 갈비살. especially when going out for drinks

삼겹살 ssamgyeopsal is pork meat in slices, you grill them yourself at your table
갈비살 galbisal is the same, but with beef

Almost all street vendors sell 떡볶이 Tteokbokki and is rice cakes with spicy red sauce. They usually sell them with deep fried sausage, intestines, sea food or boiled eggs.

There's silkworm coccoons, 번데기 beondegi, but not as popular these days. Friends from my gym always spoke about it but turned out nobody actually ate it. There's no risk to eat it by mistake.

For healthier stuff I definitely recommend 삼계탕 ssamgyetang which is half or full chicken stuffed with rice and boiled in ginseng soup. There is version with different spices but most tend to be very similar.

김밥 kimbap should be mentioned too. Basically rice with meat/fish/egg/chicken/sausage or anything rolled into a seaweed roll and sliced up. Don't call it sushi roll because like every other Asian country Korea believe they were first to invent eating.
>>
>>1038782

How long did it take you to get Korean citizenship?

I wonder if I could start own business and/or tutor English to locals, make big bucks. I guess the downside is having a ball and chain insane, nagging, bipolar Korean wife

Well I guess if you're white, anything seems culturally rich... As a korean, I'm gonna say korea's culture's kinda messed up. It makes sense if you remember that korea went from #1 shithole of the world to a very prosperous nation within 50 years...
>>
>>1038856
I like Korea, but apart from really great cuisine, Korea seems pretty culturally flat to me. It's like, you can go to some cookie cutter reconstructed palace and play dress up in traditional clothes.

Compared to all this cultural shit from Japan:

>sumo
>traditional theatre (Noh, Kabuki, Bunraku)
>its own native religion
>anime, manga, video games
>subcultures and street fashion
>etc
>>
>>1038859
I would say consumerism is korea's culture. It's not the land of plenty, it's the land of too much.
>>
>>1038862
Consumerism is every modern industrialized country's culture to be fair.
>>
>>1038863
Yeah, but being familiar with Canadian and american cultures, you've never seen consumerism like korea, and they don't really have very much cultural aspects that hold them back. Japan differs as they seem to have that, at least on the surface. Pic related, this picture was taken while thunder was rumbling above.

Some do. I get glares from a lot of old people in Seoul. Their eyes accuse me of only coming to Korea to steal their daughters and waste my money on useless kpop fads. Most of the people I talk to and meet are super nice though. I'd imagine it's worse in the countryside where the average population is much older.
>>
>>1040428
Quite the opposite. I get friendly looks and enthusiasm to use some English. During the day and especially at night when they drink.

I heard Korean males used to be pretty violent and would randomly pick fights with or jump foreigners. They'd even try to blackmail you into assaulting them so you'd get arrested and then have to pay money to them. This was a few years ago, so I guess things have changed.

I went there in 2014 and didn't have any problems.

But from what I hear, Korean guys are still major cockblockers and will prevent you from getting dat dere Korean pussy in bars and clubs.

Hey guys, I've been living in Gyeongju for a month now, I'm made a few English friends, but have never really had opportunity to make Korean friends. Would they even be interested in making friends with me? What online/smartphone apps could I potentially use to meet Koreans? I tried the Meetup app but everything is happening in Busan, Seoul or Daegu. What apps would work in a smaller city like mine?
>>
>>1040577
I live in Seoul (I'm a white guy). Was out drinking with a Korean friend I've known since way back when he lived in Canada. He says I'm a dummy for not trading sex for English lessons online. Might do that.

p.s. I've lived in a smaller city before (Cheongju and Daejeon) and liked them FAR more than Seoul. Really regret moving here.
>>
>>1040596
kek, thanks for the tip, wasn't necessarily looking for hookups but it's worth a shot maybe. Probably won't have the balls to do that though.

Why don't you like Seoul? Gyeongju feels really tiny now that I've gotten to know the city, wish I'd picked one of the big three to live in.
>>
>>1040604
I'd say second-tier Korean cities (~1m people) are where it's at. All the foreigners tend to congregate in one place, and it's easy to get around. Seoul is so fucking huge that it takes an hour to get from one place to another even on the subway, and there's no one place people go. Every place in Korea is just like everywhere else so it really doesn't make a difference to a foreigner if it's the same thing x100 or x 100000.

The crowdedness of Seoul really puts a damper on a lot of things. E.g. it was impossible for me to escape the city on chuseok since everything was entirely booked up. Can't go to baseball games (which I'd do all the time in Daejeon on a whim) since they're all sold out. Clubs (not that I'm into them) all have lines around the block. It's nuts. Also it smells like absolutely shit (Gangnam, for instance, smells like a steaming pile of farts despite the pretence).

The subway also rules your life. It shuts down around midnight, which means the city mostly shuts down. In a place that's small enough to cab it or walk that's no worry. And count on absolutely everything bring ~25% more expensive for no reason at all.

Seoul is also a lot less Western than you might think, since Koreans all want to live here (for reasons totally beyond me). The density of people is just incredible. When I live in Cheongju, which is a university town with a lot of (internationally focused) chips plants, the ratio of foreigners to Koreans was WAY WAY higher than in Seoul simply because of the mind-boggling number of Koreans in Seoul.

>Subway shuts down around midnight
Does that mean the smaller cities with out a subway will have a much better and longer nightlife?
