A wood carving passed through the family? A dream catcher? You have no inkling of knowledge around Russian customs. You trace the muzzle of the bear, finding the wood to be extremely smooth and almost... soft. You stop. It sounded for a second like there was a grunt from inside the box. Your heart begins to speed up a little bit. This has piqued your interest. What could be in here? Your fingers slide down the neck to find the seam that wraps all around the box. Another quiet grunt. It seems like your vision is focusing on the box. Your total tunnel vision has dominated your mind. The box. The box.

You slip your short fingernail into the small seam and then push the rest of your finger in. A small rush of dry, cool, sawdust-scented air puffs from the box, and the air fades back to its humid, 90 degree usual. The contents of the box are quite strange in your opinion. There is what appears to be a long cane, rounded on one end, another cane, shorter but thicker with ridges, and a small pendant carved in the shape of a bear.
Your face is suddenly itchy. A mosquito has bitten your leg. The contents of the box were a lot less impressive than you expected. You look around you. The woman still isn't here. It's been a million years. Her contract said that if she hadn't picked it up after 2 hours, he could keep it. Maybe that woman just didn't care much about it. But then, why hire you to bring it all the way out here to this park?
Another hour passes. She's not coming. You wipe more sweat off your forehead. Even though it's getting later, it's been nothing but increasing heat inside the cabin, and you're sick of it. You still wonder about the purpose of the old box, and why that woman had told you not to open it. You feel a little bit bloated. You heave the box onto your shoulders and carry it out into the truck's flatbed. It seems a bit lighter. You guess you've been getting stronger? You walk back into the cabin, entering the kitchen to refill your water bottle from the sink. Suddenly, your stomach lurches. You feel very sick. You rush to the bathroom, vomit spilling out of your mouth. A huge rush of puke later, your guts still feel like they're smashing around inside you. It hurts a lot. You're laying in a puddle of sweat on the cabin floor, and it's getting hotter. You wipe more sweat off your face. What's happening to you? Your hands are shivering and your vision is getting blurry. Suddenly you get that feeling again. The slight scent of sawdust and a cool dry wind hits your face. You feel a slight respite from your gut... and then it starts again.

You manage to stand up, stumble to your trunk and crank up the air conditioning. You wipe the sweat off your forehead, digging through the glove box for a napkin or paper of any kind.

You finally make it back to your apartment. The truck's AC probably had broken- even when you set it to the coolest, most full-blast freezing setting you could, even when the thermostat said 60 degrees, you were soaked with sweat. You hop onto your bed and slam your head into the wall. Ouch. You're okay, but usually a jump like that would put your shoulders right on the top 1/3 of the bed. You rub the small lump that's forming. It doesn't hurt much. You've cranked the air conditioning in your apartment to 50 degrees. Your bill would be murder this month. You finally settle down and lay on your bed, finding that your feet stretch off the mattress. Again, odd- you weren't even as long as the bed yesterday.
